I definitely would have liked to play in any version of beta Kronos. Seems like fun to run around such a big area like that
I had always figured Gigantos Boss Arena was originally intended for Supreme.
As we see in a cutscene, Supreme was filled with The Ends essence and fell to earth.
I imagined this left a massive crater upon crash landing in Kronos, leaving the area in the state that it is when Sonic arrives many many years later.
That's a cool headcanon
So I spent a lot of time exploring early build leaks of Frontiers, checking which one of them is true and which one is false.
I am 100% sure that grind rails in Frontiers were not there at the beginning of the development. Actually, they were, but not in the open zone as we can find them now (on every step of game). Towers on Rhea Island were on another location, scattered all the way over "Krouranos". THIS is where you could find grind rails. Once you climbed to the top of the tower, you came in front of Hermit or Elder Koco. You would get really tired and frustrated climbing these towers. For the other two islands, I am not really sure if they were made in first parts of development. I beleive Ares was made somewhen in 2019 or 2020 since it is the most polished island and Chaos was made somewhen in 2021 since the game's quality is starting to fall off there (Super Sonic cutscenes are not pre-rendered, Ancients cutscene was 2D animation and not 3D like the previous two and platforming quality is starting to be desperate).
SF Productions, if this somehow gets your attention, please make a video about these informations. I was following every step of Rangers development since the first announcement of "Sonic 2022". Thank you.

3:20 the closest to that forest is actually that forest where the 1st tower was in the final game. It even had ocean right next to it, like in the trailer which gigantos arena is not next to.

Honestly the way I see all this is that Beta Kronos was mostly the devs trying to get a feel of how big this game was going to be. The initial concept had so much more because they had their expectations on what they could get done much higher, and just scaled things back as they started to understand what resources they were working with (like time and budget).
The "initial concept" had you running through empty islands with nothing but guardians, puzzles, and cyberspace portals. What we have in the final game is far more than what was originally planned.
Kronos island was originally going to have 3 sections of extremely long forest at the level of rhea island
The first one was the one in the final game which is the famous forest section of rhea, the second one is in ouranos which there is a part that is full of trees (it's not the giant fight field) that field of trees is completely divided and there are trees put up because if in sections curiously put near the main one, The last one was going to be the combat zone of Giganto where as a show there was not that terrain, but it was flatter like all of Rhea Island
Possibly the entire section or area of the giant arena was pure forest but was removed due to lack of time and rebuilding of the island by the testers
I'm not bothered by the final result (except that rhea and kronos are physically one but the game separates them, I don't like that because for me it loses a sense of freedom) the final ouranos we had is noticeable that it is completely taken from kronos island but that currently by update 3 has more essence and personality than originally
Hey, if you're still interested in this subject of early versions of the game, I'd think it would be cool to have a whole video just commenting on the leaks that happened before the game's release,from the oldest to the most recent, and see how they match the final game and match what information we have about the beta version of the game
I really wish there could be some paid DLC where they add a ''classic mode'' or ''rangers mode'' where you basically play the original version of Frontiers, with full kronos island and everything
I know I might be late and I looked at prerelease footage like IGN (aside from Beta Kronos being obvious, there’s nothing different, sorry) and I can 100% confirm that your Giganto Hole was already something at that time, so the filling might’ve been between the Sonic Central teaser and the IGN first.
Awesome video! The alpha stuff is really neat. It's fun to think about the implications of the little tidbits of info on the early versions of the game.
I think the giganto arena was intended almost since the beggining and i though thats the original location lf ancient worldship
And the real way to enter (or exit) that place is from the tunel behing the ouranos pyramid, lets remember that place "looks important" and there is nothing in there for it

Finding lost beta stuff in Frontiers: "More. MORE!"
The amount of terrain cut from this game is actually kind of unreal.
All because some play testers said it was too “grassy and vast”, now we have Rhea and Ouranos. The game was originally supposed to have just 3 islands, even eggman in the logs only talk about Kronos, ares, and chaos, never mentions Rhea or Ouranos because they weren’t intended at first
I am also a huge fan of learning about the early versions of sonic frontiers.
I always enjoy seeing Beta content in games. Sonic Frontiers in particular has a lotta interesting stuff. Imagine if the final game actually did only have 3 islands. Kronos, Ares and Chaos.
We know they were split up cuz of pacing, but the implications that only 3 islands would have on the story is interesting too. It’s likely that during the vast majority of the game’s development that Supreme didn’t even exist, and there was only 3 titans. Considering Supreme is just identical to Giganto, but with a jetpack.
I hope we get more insight of the games development in the future. Like what was the original planned ending of the game going to be if Rhea, Ouranos and Supreme didn’t exist? How would The End play into it? Intriguing stuff 🤔
What makes me most thoughtful is actually what was being planned for this initially planned ending to the game. Everything indicates that after Chaos Island we would return to Kronos(Whether it's because of the towers or the Ancients' ship), and this doesn't match the speculation that the Knight would be the game's Final Boss or Final Titan, we would have an entire section after his fight and his own struggle does not fit into this context.
And the very existence of a possible fourth surprise titan is due to the Supreme's participation in the story, since The End was imprisoned inside his body.
My conclusion is that the existence of a Fourth Titan was really planned, but due to time constraints they had to reuse a lot of Giganto (And it has already been said that it took 5 years to be finalized)
@PauloH100 I still can't believe it took them 5 YEARS to make and develop Giganto.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Supreme and Giganto where one in the same, and the design was split in half in order to meet the deadline.
The Kronos inland before the normal Kronos island was released they are way different and the beta Kronos inland sounds a little bit more cooler and I honestly feel like beta Kronos could’ve been in Sonic Frontier. The early model for beta Kronos island was a good one and I feel like during development Sonic Team was making Beta Kronos island they scrap it and something’s in the frontiers trailers they should things that weren’t in Sonic Frontiers. While always Great video SF Productions)

Well seeing how sonic fans love making remakes of sonic games a sonic frontiers fan remake that has beta Kronos island isn't off the table we got project frontiers and sonic frontiers ultimate both on Roblox so maybe one of them can do it especially since project frontiers is getting a remaster they could make the current one have beta Kronos

This feels so weird and I am so frustrated we never got this version of Kronos.
At least 6 more months could've probably been enough to get these places finished and make the game even better!
I am mostly happy with the Frontiers we got now, but man, I really wish we got the earlier version instead.
Nah dude trust me they removed it for a reason. Early playtesters all said it was boring and not fun to run around all that big empty space with nothing to fill it up.
You're only frustrated because it's not the one we got. If it were the other way around and we got the beta Kronos instead of the final, you'd be frustrated we didn't get the final.

Didn’t know bout this till I watched this video, interesting. Gotta wonder if that mother-ship was real, why tf did they scrap it completely though?
Just saying something i dont like is how kronos area is so separated to the rhea area, maybe if it was like this, yeah, with a few springs and rails the areas are easily connected, but no real organic conection? Idk
And the other day looking the map i found out, at the left of the fishing portal in kronos the island outline is bigger, is like if that area where more stretch, to connect with tha part behind and go direct to the mountain naturally from behind
First i tough, maybe is not well centered so if thats the case on the other side should not be any sea outline, (where portal 1-5 is located)

There was too an outline for a bigger mass of land in there, and knowing that in that place in rhea there is a section too much down almost at the level of the sea, with the mountain having climbable terrain, i think that in there could be also a land mass to connect both zones, and now makes sense because doesnt look like an error when setting the island on to the sea outline
Omg yees my though is real, seeing the outline of the more preliminar kronos (with that other mini island in the top left) i can see in the area of the kronos fishing portal that land mass, and its the same shape that the water outline!
Now i have to search if the other mini islands are too outlined in the water

I think sonic frontiers had originally Tails and knuckles playable think about it,
Kronos was sonic's island because it was the biggest and the one that took the most time
Ares was for knuckles because it had lots of canions knuckles could climb on
And chaos was for tails because it was in the sky and would take advantage of tails's flight

I feel like in the future people are going to be able to find the Pre Alpha and Beta version of Sonic Frontiers and make it playable for a mod or upload it as a separate game.
My take on the story they were going after chaos before the islands were split is that the original game was always supossed to be advertised as a 3 zone game,the game would go as normal exploring part of kronos and ouranos as one map,and rhea´s area would be completely inaccessible till chaos was completed,after completing chaos island sonic goes through all the starfield islands we see in the horizon before ending at rhea when super sonic drained all his rings,only then he would see the towers that were activated since giganto was destroyed in this version,the game goes as normal till sonic gets corrupted and saved,but after that no objective was clear,all islands were explored and all titans were destroyed,which prompts sonic to brainstorm till he remember how various ships were shown to him through the ancients´s memories despite not one being visible in any island and how rhea´s guardian towers were invisible to him before,now making both sage and eggman point that despite the monologue,the end has not made itself clear so not all of his energy have been released yet,making eggman sage and sonic explore all of kronos,ares and chaos´s empty spaces and unexplored cyber space portals till sage finds the weird totem sphere in kronos´s tutorial island,that has an entrance to an area of cyberspace where the ancient´s main ship is stored,after exploring the ship which gives more info about the ancients,we find the coordinates of a 4th island hidden out of the starfall islands´s main zones in hope to make it impossible to reach to anyone that doesn´t know its existance and how to activate it´s towers and defenses,sage being more informed about the ancients is able to activate the defenses making sonic go and gather all of the emeralds,heading towards the coordinates,sonic is hit by the island´s defenses and the emeralds proceed to power the island´s towers,now just taking on the story that the final horizon gave us.
that for me would fix just spawning at ouranos and the weird pacing that we have after rhea now giving us about 1 to 3 hours of content before the final act,also giving eggman,sage and sonic more screentime with eachother and sage more time to analyse the ancients,the cyber-corruption and propose sonic the plan,though i don´t know how the 4th island would play or look like,also the game would have 6 or so other secret cyber stages in these empty places in the islands that would have the proper lenght of a boost stage and be entirely original,giving after all were completed the ability to boost though enemies as before.
the 3 islands thing was debunked because the early surveys for Frontiers back in 2019 mentioned 4 islands
