I fucking love that man. My first ever hero. Being a child in the late 90's in New England, every kid in little league tapped their toes on the ground in the batters box and it was a bloodbath to get number 5
straight F-in class right there. Not hard to do. Its not selfish, some ballplayers would think that and its unprofessional, but give your fans an acknowledgement. He did. Kudos to that dude.
All the way. Varitek behind the plate with that beautiful C on his chest later on... Probably say this because it was 'my team' growing up, but I doubt there will ever be a team with such personality as the '04 Red Sox. Can't forget that wet towel Schilling. Hate him as a man, but as a player he was a giant.
Imagine -- a player who gets far more applause from an opposing team's fans than he ever does from his home-town fans. When you think about it, that's really sad. No matter where he plays, Fenway is still his home. And home is where he belongs.
When I was little Nomar was my favorite player, my dad got me tickets to this game and I still have it in my room. I went to the game in a Red Sox Nomar Jersey with and Oakland A’s hat. Those were the days.
i was deployed on my sub when he returned home. But, i saw the full clip and the home plate umpire deserves an ovation too. He "cleaned" home plate so Nomar could get a proper/long ovation.
Nomar was the man back in the day. Always wished they won in 03 when he was still around, or brought him back for the 07 run, but unfortunately it was never meant to be.
Watching in 2021. Clapped with the crowed. I modeled my game after this guy, my favorite player growing up and until this day. People even said I looked like him, wore 15 to give it my own little spice but had to have #5 in there. Nothing will compare to watching sports center just to see him play.
Awesome!! Even as a male, I have no problem saying, if you look anything like Nomar, you have NO trouble getting dates with attractive women! But, I am Japanese-American, born in Seattle in 1973, and think that LOOKS are the only thing that matters.
I feel so lucky to have been following he redsox when he came up as a rookie. I kept telling myself..wow im watching a special gifted player and he's playing for MY home team! Pedro & Nomar together forever.
To put into perspective how great of an eye Nomar had it took Joey Gallo 3.5 seasons to strike out more times than Nomar did in 13. What a great ball player. I couldn't stand him beating up on my Jays with those late inning clutch hits haha. Respect.
Wow I actually remember watching this live. In Cleveland growing up I always looked up to Lofton, Vizquel and Alomar, but always admired Nomar in that list.
I'm an Atlanta Braves fan, a Lakers fan and a New York Giants fan, but I gotta be honest here, the GREATEST fans in all of sports, that honor belongs to Red Sox fans... You guys are incredible
I was actually at this game, though at the time I was just 9 and didn't fully understand everything he meant to the city. I do now and I'm happy I was able to be there to give him a hand.
You can tell he's getting emotional here. In their primes I thought Nomar was better than Jeter and A-Rod. I'm happy the Dodgers got a couple good years with him. He gave us some memorable moments.
If Nomar was better than Jeter, then i guess Judge is better than Betts. Sorry but availability is key, Nomar was injury prone and it turns out Jeter was better.
Yeah but Nomar's prime was such a short period because of the injuries. Nomar had 6 maybe 7 good years, but there was a short period where he was the best hitter in baseball.
It was a waste for John Smoltz to pitch another season in 2009. He was 42 years old coming off an injury which limited him to only 5 starts in '08. He had nothing more to prove. His '09 record combined with Boston & St. Louis was a miserable 3-8 with a 6.35 era in 15 starts. If he decides to retire after '08 like he should have... he would have been able to join his buddies Glavine and Maddux and all 3 would have went into the HOF the same year. Smoltz also would have joined Maddux in an elite club of pitchers with 3,000 career strikeouts and less than 1,000 walks. By pitching in '09 and issuing 18 walks it pushed Smoltz career total to 1,010. Only Maddux, Fergie Jenkins, Pedro Martinez, Curt Schilling, and Justin Verlander are in the club.
Pokey Reese I meant not pedroia but the next season he wasn't there and then they had lugo for years sorry but OC may have been there but he wasn't the reason for the trade or helped them very much at all
nomar should of been a red sox for life instead of a steroid aided 2004 world series dump. red sox ownership acts like they are a small market franchise - they are not. their owner is one of the richest owners in sports. its a shame for the fans really - when i think of nomar i think of a man disrespected.
If you think OC did nothing you're a clueless fucktard. I seem to remember a world series he helped bring here while Nomar was whining about his contract
Yeah do you remember all those errors he had at the end of the season and in the post season and they had to put pedroia there cause he wasn't hitting or fielding and then I believe he left the next year
And wouldn't you whine about your contract when you were on of the best teams ever and had to be apart of a trade that didn't benefit him at all and gets replaced by someone people barley know lol and your one the premier shortstops in the league he got fucked and OC GOT LUCKY
he still got a ring for the 04 season though because he played enough games with boston. It was bittersweet for him. He has the ring to show he helped make that win happen
Smart move by Theo to trade away Nomar for Orlando Cabrera. Nomar was too much of a muscle head and while his stats were off the charts, he could not stay on the field. Jeter made the HOF and Nomar did not.
Nomar in an Oakland A’s uniform & John Smoltz in a Boston Red Sox uniform! Talk about bizarro world!
Late 2000s/early 2010s was a weird time for baseball. I swear it was Julio Franco’s retirement that started it all...
Nothin’ but facts here
Bobby Orr in a Black Hawks uniform..
That was Twilight Zone...
Patrick Ewing in a Sonics jersey!
@@unappealingundesirable2826more weird than that is him in a magic jersey

No one can deny, in the late 90s, Nomar and Pedro was everyone’s childhood hero in New England.
They should change it from New England to Old America!
He is still my favorite baseball player ever!
Same man, same.
Yesssss. Oh yessssss
straight F-in class right there. Not hard to do. Its not selfish, some ballplayers would think that and its unprofessional, but give your fans an acknowledgement. He did. Kudos to that dude.
Should of been there to win the series with them for sure
Agreed
Theo wanted very badly to keep him, but really there was no choice
I believe Nomar got a ring for 2004
tomismop true, after all, Nomar was unhappy in Boston during the 2004 season.
They wouldn't have won it without Orlando Cabrera and Doug Whatshisnuts they got from the Nomar trade

They only broke the curse in 04 because he was gone. He’s one of those really good players who just wasn’t meant to win a ring
@@DrunkenSlob Maybe if you believe in curses, but the organization still gave Nomar a ring for 2004

The biggest sacrifice the Red Sox ever made to get themselves a World Championship was by trading Nomar. Thank you,Nomar.

Everything.
