    Re the title, I think you'll find it's Andrew IRVINE . . .

    The two still made it the highest on Everest first-besides maybe the incredible Sherpas?

    I think they made it to the summit

    Lo más importante del hallazgo de la bota de Irvine es que ahora los expertos saben dónde tienen que buscar para porder encontrar su cuerpo. Durante muchos años se especuló que estaba cerca de la cima o cerca dónde encontraron a Mallory en 1999. Creo que en pocos días van a encontrarlo

    Disappointing to see repeated the myth that Mallory and Irvine attempted the Second Step. That was never Mallory's intention.

    • @ruidh
      @ruidh 2 месяца назад +2

      Agreed. Other experts think M&I followed Norton up the couloir bypassing the first and second steps.
      That Mallory's goggles were in his pocket is an indication they were descending after dark.

      It's equally a myth that they went elsewhere. The reason that the ridge route has dominated thinking is based on Odell's testimony. Also, the ice ax location is inconsistent with the traverse route. Finally, although Mallory was very interested in the traverse route, he also had a well known preference for ridge routes. We ultimately do not know for sure. The traverse route is also difficult, and does not avoid cliffs. It is probably more difficult in terms of route funding on unknown routes.

      @@dmbeasterMichael Tracy is pretty compelling on Mallory's planned route. And a bit less so on his supposed preference for the ridge.

    • @dmbeaster
      @dmbeaster 2 месяца назад

      @@stewartjohnking Tracy found some great evidence on that. But the data just makes no sense for the traverse route, and is much more compelling for the ridge route. The ice ax and oxygen bottle were found on the ridge route -- not the traverse. Odell's sighting makes no sense on the traverse route. Tracy tries to explain this by claiming there is a Z route from the traverse to the third step, and Odell saw them on the third step. But Odell never claimed that he saw them on the third step, and claimed it was around the second step. His other remarks are also inconsistent with the third step (with merges with the summit pyramid from Odell's vantage point). You have to change the data to fit the theory -- always a bad way to make a theory workable. Finally, no one has ever climbed this so called Z route, and there is zero evidence that it is feasible. Messner remarked that it was not.

    • @stewartjohnking
      @stewartjohnking 2 месяца назад +1

      @@dmbeasterthe ice axe is consistent with a high traverse and if Odell's sighting is to be believed, only the third step fits Odell's description. But I agree about the zigzag route. Jake Norton, who is as familiar with the North face as anyone, is also doubtful about whether there is a climbable route. But the evidence is pretty strong that Mallory never intended to tackle the second step.

    I loved this. I didnt know about all these details that happened before the final push if mallory and Irvine. i like to think that they made it. i think they did. Its just a fascinating story, especially since Odell saw them up so high, either the first or 2nd step.

  • @azer20099
    @azer20099 2 месяца назад +2

    They were last seen on the third step, Odell said they were above Norton's high point. The missing picture of Ruth is a clue but one should look for typical summit rocks, either on G.M. or A.I,'s pockets as the said they would bring back

      Yo creo que el Neozelandés encontró la foto y destruyó toda evidencia de que Mallory haya llegado a la cima, talvez haya encontrado él la cámara

      O'Dell never said the third step, and his description is inconsistent with the third step.

      They looked in Mallory's pockets, and did not find rocks. They were not specifically looking for rocks, but the numerous artifacts came from Mallory's pockets.

    • @azer20099

      @@dmbeaster Yes it is and Mallory never intended to take the ridge way, they were bound to take Norton and Somerwell's path

    • @dmbeaster
      @dmbeaster 2 месяца назад

      @@azer20099 The ice ax and oxygen bottle make it clear that they did not take Norton's route. They also cannot be seen by Odell if the took the traverse route. Without regard to which step he saw them near, you cannot end up at any step taking the traverse route. I understand the evidence about Mallory's statements about what he might do, but it cannot be squared with any of the other evidence of their actual route. Or else Odell really did just see rocks (which I do not believe given his experience).

    Sandy Irvine did not invent interrupter gear for machine guns to fire through an Aircraft propellor, this was invent by Anthony Fokker in 1915. Andrew Irvine would have been 13 years old----utter nonsense do please get your facts right.
