The first time that Dexter really went out & pushed for a record and it cost him & his horse. That 3/4 time was insane with Allywag right on his heels. JMO.
@@comesahorseman He was at the Red Mile he was there to cut a mile faster than 145.4 ..do you believe it’s so easy to rate these horses perfectly every quarter…sometimes a horse is on the bit so hard he won’t even let you rate him…you can’t choke him down you have to let him go especially if you’re there to go in 1:45 flat
@@tonylove7630 when he went in :45.4, he cut a slower 3/4, then came a last quarter in about :25.1 I say that's how this horse races best. Chasing a record can be done but it's risky & in this case it cost him. If it were a time trial, then I could see going hard to the 3/4 then hanging on. Depends on your priorities.
Give credit to Allywag, he's one helluva horse and was right in those fractions with Bulldog. Its not like Bulldog went crazy fractions that allowed a horse from the back of the field that had laid off the fractions to run him down. He deserved this unlikely win.
Todd McCarthy has a nack for winding big races and it's a surprise. I think if they raced Bulldog Hanover to win the race and not go after a world record he probably wins. Dexter Dunn should have rated Bulldog Hanover much better.
He’s a great horse but he just got beat this race he has no excuse..the only horse he dueled with the first quarter was the horse that beat him…anyway he didn’t look as good in the post parade as he usually does he looked a little sore to me
