Great solve Simon! I'm glad this easy knights and fog puzzle could get you out of a bind without too much trouble. I hope everyone enjoys this puzzle and has a go for it themselves! Hope you and Mark are well and thank you for all you do putting out such great puzzles every day! Cheers and God Bless 😎
I feel like I must be one of the few who doesn't like fog. I don't like when I make a mistake the puzzle immediately tells me so by not revealing fog. I feel like it's robbed me of my chance to solve the puzzle on my own without a hint.
That's how it starts! I'd recommend looking up James Sinclair's Artisanal Sudoku substack; every week he publishes/recommends about seven puzzles, and there's one or two that usually rank in the 1-2 star (out of Logic Masters Germany's five) range that also feature relatively simple variant rulesets. They're great practice, and doing those while watching this channel will have you solving much harder ones down the road; I started out trying my hand at the puzzles with ~30 minute video length, and now I'm occasionally solving 4-star puzzles, based entirely on skills I've learned by watching this channel.
This puzzle was very difficult. Almost half of the puzzles in the channel are easier than this one. Very weird one to solve first, and even weirder to call it "approachable".
I cannot believe it but I was able to solve this one. Usually when I watch Simon solve these I just simply stare and am unable to comprehend how he finds the things he finds. This one was the first puzzle I found a starting point myself when watching the video, and that led me to try it myself.
Yeah, I love those fun, quick puzzles too, which everyone can solve without bending their brains to get the first digit after an hour. Often try these, when I see Simons solvetime is around up to 30 minutes.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! The funny thing is that my partner’s name is Sophia, but I usually call her Sophie as a nickname, so we both got a kick out of you making sure to get it right :)
The way Simon figured out r5c3 being 7 by noticing it must appear in r6c456 had me laughing so much! There was a seven looking at r4c1 since like 2 or 3 steps 😂
Today when i solved this one it had already almost 9500 solves. From time to time i enjoy puzzles like that, where you have a clear idea where you should look next and don't have to search for hours for the next step. 🙂
I finished in 33:02 minutes. This was a nice approachable sudoku. However, there is something about knight's move rulesets that my brain struggles with. I got hard stuck in the middle, only making pencil mark progress. This went on for 10 minutes before I was able to spot that the 2 in r6c7 was pointing to r7c9. The rest was very enjoyable. I think my favorite part was a mundane pencil mark. I asked where 9 could go in box 5, which caused r2c4 to not have a 9. This fed back into box 5, which caused r5c4 to not have a 9. That was a cool little bounce trick that was probably simpler than I described, but I think I found the cooler way. Great Puzzle!
I always really enjoy meggen033's fog puzzles, and have done a few dozen of them on LMD. I like how usually the opening takes a bit of careful thought, but nothing is ever too hard through the solve path! Finished this one in 9:51 (conflict checker off), many thanks to meggen033 for a great puzzle!
The way you got the 6 at 14:09 made me so happy as it was EXACTLY what I did with using sudoku with colors to get the digit. I feel brilliant (just let me have this one) :)
Yes lovely. I know the 1/2 difficulties are hard to find but much as I love watching the 2 hour ones, once a week "I might try this first" is very welcome...
I got a time of 7:35! Simon unfortunately got lucky during his solve. 16:51 he was looking at where the 4 goes in box 5, and concluded it was in row 4, but that is bad logic! R6C6 was an option at that time. It is not until you figure out the 13 cage in box 4 is a 4-9 pair that you can eliminate the 4 in R6C6.
Thank you for mentioning this! I'm always trying to solve the puzzle myself and looking Simon's video as soon as I'm stuck. And that 4 was something I was despairing about to unerstand until I read your comment.
Yes you are correct, but it doesn’t really make a difference here. If he did pencil make a 4 in R6C6, he could’ve immediately ruled out a 4 from R7C4 in box 8 because general sudoku and the knights move would’ve ruled out all three positions in box 5
Good evening... may i ask a questen about minute 16:55... where to put the "4" in Box 5... Row 5 is blocked because of the 4 at the end of the row, and Position 2 in Box 5 is blocked because of the knights-move from the 4 of box 3... i agree with simon... but... why the 4 in box 5 cant be on "position 9 in the box" (row 6) ? I dont see a reason (at this time) to proof, that the 4 in box 5 only can be at "box-positioin 1 or 7) (coloum 4). Can anyone help me and explain it to me ? Thank you very much... Greetings, Thomas
I agree, with other replyer, it feels like a mistake, but on the other hand.. if you turn it around, was that 4 he placed right after (in row 7) therefor a bad one.. cause it would have 2 places (position 1 and 2), but position 1 is ruled out, cause if you do put it there, 4 can't be in any position in box 5. So while I think the logic was flawed, the 4 that flowed from it was legit.
Very approachable and fun fog puzzle! First time I think I've done one the fog puzzles featured on this channel without getting stuck, needing clarification on the rules or help, or feeling an urge to start guessing digits. (27:49)
Quite approachable puzzle even with the math for the cages taking me longer than it reasonable should... Finished in 34.40, which is a good solving time for me.
1:30 kudos to you for golfing in this weather! I’m definitely a summer golfer- not because I can’t cope with the cold, but because I lose enough balls even when the ground is green!

Congrats on your golf streak Simon! Finished this puzzle without your help after needing quite some help from you with yesterday's puzzle, but it got doable for me after your discovery of box 7 thanks to dilligent marking!
For those who want a more approachable sudoku, this is certainly one to try. There have been a few uploads in recent weeks where the difficulty was apparently only 2/5 stars on LMG but came across a lot more difficult than recorded. This is not one of those and for someone like myself who are not the best puzzle solvers, took me roughly 30 mins and was quite an enjoyable solve.
Looking absolutely spiffy with your jacket Simon!! Exquisite pictures indeed. Thank you for taking and sharing them! Beautiful fog puzzle on this Saturday!
30 minutes or less are the kind of sudoku that my skill level allows.. Once i finished, i had to come see the video just to see your face when seeing the second [redacted] in the corner.. Have a pleasant weekend!
This was definitely on the approachable end of the spectrum, and I solved it entirely before watching your video. And also before watching your video, I watched Mark's video and learned of your success in your golf tournament (congratulations, Simon!), so I came back here right away to watch your video to see whether you were doing a pre-recorded video or whether this was a live one. Looking mighty sharp there, Simon, and welcome home! Your photos were indeed lovely - all of that frost looked like snow, actually; did you play with orange golf balls, or had it melted and the grounds no longer white by the time you played? Thanks for rushing back to give us a fresh and fun video, and the story of your golfing.
This gave me an idea for dynamic fog. What if someone created a fog puzzle, but instead of revealing the surrounding 9x9 area (king's moves), it revealed all squares which are a knight's move away from the solved square?
Simon is throwing around "approachable" way too easily. This puzzle was very difficult, and Simon solved it by making a lucky mistake at 16:50, where he put a bad pencilmark in box 5. I have no idea how to solve it legitimately at that point, so it might be even more than "very" difficult.
At the moment you're talking about, you can use sudoku in box 6 to get the 6, which reveals the cage above it to be 13, and using the sudoku in box 6 and the 1 in row 3, it can only be a 2 7, and I think you can continue your solve from there.
Because he didn't have enough time to be thorough. One of his knights leapt 1+3 squares instead of 1+2... Luckily for him, it ended up being correct, but he used luck instead of logic for a bit.
The way he highlighted the 4 in r5c9 immediately before highlighting a T shape of supposedly ruled out cells in box 5 makes me think he treated that 4 as being closer to box 5 than it was. I strongly suspect the dark purple cells in-between played some part. Another case of he'd do better if he removed colours from the grid once they'd served their purpose, as they only serve as a distraction otherwise.
I think that was a mistake. Once you've looked at the 13-cage in box 4 and determined it has to be 4-9 then that rules 4 out from both r6c4 and r6c6, but until you've done that then r6c6 is a valid place to put the 4 in box 5.
Nice puzzle, got it in 18:19 but I have to admit the conflict checker saw three or four knight's moves for me that I hadn't immediately spotted myself.
Love the golf club photos! Glad to see an approachable foggy puzzle. Ice and snow are melting but getting cold again tonight. iPad having problems. Hope it will hold on till I get this message out.
@ I managed to borrow an iPad/iPhone charger from a neighbor. All is ok for now. Thank goodness. Hopefully ice/snow will be melted enough to go out and buy one tomorrow. Old one just quit! iPad has other problems, but don’t want to take it in to shop as they will keep it several days…🙁 Hoping for warmer weather soon!!!! ❤️❤️
45:56 for me. I’m a beginner at modified sudokus and this was one of the harder ones I’ve done. The 2’s and 6’s in box 9 took me way too long to spot, overall good solve.
Amazing setting. I love your puzzles! Please keep them coming. Appreciated
lovely puzzle Meggen, a deserving feature!
Thanks so much for a lovely puzzle. Keep em coming please!
The best thing about a fog puzzle is the regular validation that you are on the right track
I feel like I must be one of the few who doesn't like fog. I don't like when I make a mistake the puzzle immediately tells me so by not revealing fog. I feel like it's robbed me of my chance to solve the puzzle on my own without a hint.
My first solve of a puzzle on the channel, before watching Simon. I took 2 hours. A testament to the puzzle's approachability.
congrats :)
The finger one from a few days back is really worth a go too.
That's how it starts! 13:37 for me, it's a nice change solving solo rather than needing Simon's help
Snazzy Simon solves Sudoku.

Love the photos! Also fun little puzzle for a break in the evening - thanks to Meggen! :)
Very dapper today Simon! Thanks for continuing the daily uploads ❤
14:42 to solve. A very rare feat on CtC for me! Stunning puzzle!
I like your in-depth explanation of an x-wing without using the 'x' terminology!
Great puzzle. 8.02 min of just pure fun 🙂
First time i solve a puzzle in a video, I solved it 12.50, some beautiful tricks with knights move did a lot of work in this puzzle!
This was the easiest foggy I have ever solved. Wonderful.
The way you got the 6 at 14:09 made me so happy as it was EXACTLY what I did with using sudoku with colors to get the digit. I feel brilliant (just let me have this one) :)
09:53 for me :)
Perfect puzzle for a ride home from brunch with the family.😊
Another fog puzzle, brilliant. Well done at the golf competition.
Yes lovely. I know the 1/2 difficulties are hard to find but much as I love watching the 2 hour ones, once a week "I might try this first" is very welcome...
22:28 Classic Simon: firstluypencilmarking a 9 in c1 in box 1, and directly afterwards considering to place a 9 in the 18 cage, just next to it 😀
I got a time of 7:35!
Well spotted. It was incorrect pencilmarking for sure but his deduction of four’s location in box five was still based on good logic.
You meant "concluded it was in column 4", right?
6:49 for me. Fun and approachable. Great puzzle all in all!
I also think it might have been a mistake. It was quickly saved by the 49 in the 13 cage in box 4.

It was a mistake on Simons part.
glad to see the return of a classic fog
Very approachable and fun fog puzzle! First time I think I've done one the fog puzzles featured on this channel without getting stuck, needing clarification on the rules or help, or feeling an urge to start guessing digits. (27:49)
17:04 for me. That was kind of speed solving, and a jolly good threes-in-the-corner-over-time-ratio! 🙂
This is the first solve i've finished quicker than simon!
Quite approachable puzzle even with the math for the cages taking me longer than it reasonable should... Finished in 34.40, which is a good solving time for me.
Beautifully done. Really enjoyable hearing you think. TY for sharing. ❤

Lovely puzzle, nice to see a great development in getting close to Simon's time. Got 28, probably my first sub 30
I got 11:21 on this one. Nice and approachable. I always enjoy fog puzzles.
Nice little puzzle! Well done reaching the fourth roundof the golf.
13:51 because CTC is a great teacher.
15 minutes today. Fun fog puzzle!

11:29 for me. I love fog puzzles.
That Michael Stipe video was incredible!

Beautiful fog puzzle on this Saturday!
30 minutes or less are the kind of sudoku that my skill level allows.. Once i finished, i had to come see the video just to see your face when seeing the second [redacted] in the corner.. Have a pleasant weekend!
Haha, after my solve I was also looking forward to Simon's reaction to that.
My first puzzle on this channel! 34:13 thanks!
11:43 and finished on two 3s in the corner!

Finished in 15:29, and the solve counter's up to 8982
This gave me an idea for dynamic fog. What if someone created a fog puzzle, but instead of revealing the surrounding 9x9 area (king's moves), it revealed all squares which are a knight's move away from the solved square?
I finished my first puzzle. 🎉 Not just solely a viewer.
10:48 is my time. Nice 1⭐ sudoku up there
Simon is throwing around "approachable" way too easily. This puzzle was very difficult, and Simon solved it by making a lucky mistake at 16:50, where he put a bad pencilmark in box 5. I have no idea how to solve it legitimately at that point, so it might be even more than "very" difficult.
I can rarely solve puzzles here and I solved it in 18:00 so I'm pretty sure it is not "very" difficult. I found it really fluid and very approachable.
At the moment you're talking about, you can use sudoku in box 6 to get the 6, which reveals the cage above it to be 13, and using the sudoku in box 6 and the 1 in row 3, it can only be a 2 7, and I think you can continue your solve from there.
25:08! Best part was the second three in the corner 🎉🎉
Nice and easy to start the weeik.. thanks! 14:57.
16:55 why can’t the 4 be in r6c6
agreed, there is no logic that I can see as to why the 4 had to be in c4.
Im curious too any input?
3342@#7573. Smooth and relatively simple, once I put the right combo for the 4 cage in at the start. 😝
20:44 - very nice puzzle
Nice puzzle, got it in 18:19 but I have to admit the conflict checker saw three or four knight's moves for me that I hadn't immediately spotted myself.
And because Simon didn't have time: Buy the apps, if you can afford them of course, they're marvelous.
9:07 for me. Super approachable for anyone who hesitates to try puzzles normally.
One of these rare puzzle that I have already done myself. My time was 15:57
You are quite right this is an extremely popular puzzle, it was 847 when you solved it and when I solved it a couple of minutes ago it was 2886
28:03 Thanks for an approachable one
Nice. Today i will see the end of the solve before i am fast asleep
Simon, if you ever make your way to Michigan, I’d be honored to host you for a round of golf at Arcadia Bluffs! The views and course are incredible.
I had a 16:13 today. A nice walk through the fog.
9:54 with conflict checker on. Fun working out the break-in here
Love the golf club photos! Glad to see an approachable foggy puzzle. Ice and snow are melting but getting cold again tonight. iPad having problems. Hope it will hold on till I get this message out.
Glad to hear that weather is somewhat getting better for you my friend.
Keep warm and safe!!
Hope that Ipad hangs in there for you. ❤❤❤
Just under 12 minutes for me, would have been under 10 minutes but I kept forgetting the knight move and getting stuck. Nice puzzle.
6:17 for me. A pleasant way to end the day.
What is that low kind of rumbling sound in the background of Simon’s videos?

9 MINUTE SOLVE! I WAS FASTER THAN SIMON! WTF!?!?!
22:35 for me

Nice simple working out for this one. I think the cage revealed in C9 is superfluous though. I didn't need to use it in my solve
My first solve on the channel too! Can we have more of the easier ones so we beginners can develop our skills 😀
YA BOY LOOKING FRESH !!!!
13:03 for me. Nice puzzle!

Fun!! 20:04 for me. 😄
Nice suit, Simon. :-) Is that also because of the golf competition...?
Learning to count with this puzzle : 12:34 😁

13:55 for me, fun puzzle
8:21 for me. nice and easy foggy.
Please record videos last minute more often, I have time to watch your shorter videos :)
Completely agree. I appreciate the in depth videos but struggle to find time to watch them. A 20 minute video I can always make time for.
Haha yeah, love when I have time to watch
