  • At Synthfest UK 2023, we caught up with Tom from Analogue Solutions who gave us our first hands-on look at the Maximus Analog Synthesizer. While it might not be as colossal as its predecessor, the Colossus, the Maximus still packs a punch. This beast features 8 individual voices, each with its own sequencer, giving musicians the flexibility to craft a wide range of sounds, from lush pads to percussion elements. Maximus employs a vintage-inspired approach to tuning, with no central control, harking back to the 1970s ethos of hands-on control. While it is capable of huge polyphonic patches, Tom's vision for the Maximus is to offer musicians the ability to create diverse sequences and utilize the voices independently, allowing for rich sonic exploration. With its voltage-controlled filter and multi-mode options, it's clear that the Maximus draws inspiration from classic analog synths like the Oberheim SEM. Additionally, it boasts a five-octave keyboard with aftertouch and a unique touchplate with triggering and flexible CV capabilities. Analogue Solutions has embraced a normalization approach, making patching a breeze, while also providing the option to switch out circuits for advanced sound design. The Maximus also offers delay and spring reverb effects, further expanding its sonic palette.
    With the first production run already sold out, tom is busy crafting the next batch and the Maximus should become available again in November 2023.

    I love this stuff; there's a pretty barrier to entry with all of their products (the cost - I suspect you'd have to be a working musician [or just well off} to buy this) - But its amazing to see it happen regardless. Cool stuff.
    I wonder how much it'd come down if it was more mass produced? But I can also see a lot of people in small apartments / studios that just don't have the room for this. Heck , I don't - but would love to have this on a table.

    Some people push the envelope and others define it. We need both, so this is a great push.
    Then I start thinking that I could get a moog1 and 8 Behringer system 55's for $22k heh.
    Seriously, someone finally gets what I'm trying to do with a 16ch/layer workstation and external synth modules. Same thing: every synth has all the stuff like on maximus' 8 channel strips, just have to clock everything together with midi

    Even if I were rich, I wouldn’t buy these monstrous synths - that don’t even sound good, imho. They’re big. They drone. But there’s nothing impressive about the filter character, sound, etc. The ribbon control didn’t even seem very responsive. Cumbersome and expensive … errr, OK … Have fun with all that.

  • @jonnyhead
    @jonnyhead 10 месяцев назад +1

    22.5 thousand pounds?? Obviously not for me but what on earth does it give people for that much money....... I just think the modular thing has gone crazy and has become very fashionable but hey whatever floats your boat actually you could buy a boat for that a pretty good one. But no doubt it's a beautiful looking thing

    • @robbrobb5543
      @robbrobb5543 10 месяцев назад

      About 3 grand per voice isn't bad modular wise and considering the build quality. I love Analogue Solutions modules they are quality. Your getting an Oscillator, sequence, the filter the vcas, and all completely patchable. Now I'm assuming you get the keyboard and the master panel which has lfos etc. It's not a bargain, but its supreme for what it is. I would take two voices with an extra oscillator detunable each with the keyboard and master thingy for about 7k I could see that selling fairly better than this beast.

    • @entertaintech4374
      @entertaintech4374 10 месяцев назад +3
