Andy Hull is in my opinion one of the most underrated artists of our time. he portrays HIS true emotion in an easy to swallow pill that many people can't understand yet if you can you enter his amazing realm where dynamics that many bands or singer/songwriters never travel. imagine a world where every artist used this much emotion. brilliant.
a true artist has the ability to sit down with one instrument and make you forget your life and live his life for the short period that he plays. Andy Hull has perfected this art.
Same here. I feel like I've lost the love of my life, you know. We lived together over the past year. I remember back in 2012, after we spent our first night together, she asked me in the morning what song is playing in my head. I sent her this one over, as I've replayed it several times on the bus to work. I really do love her so. Breakups are rough. Guess we got to keep moving forward, there's no other way. Hope you're all doing good.
You rarely see a musician poor that much emotion into a song. I love Andy Hull and Manchester Orchestra so much! They give me hope for the future of music.
i agree. as i a musician and songwriter myself i can connect to more than just the song, but the meaning and emotion behind it. the solo acoustic performance is raw and really illustrates everything he is feeling.. that to me is what music is all about
i was kickin it with andy in cinci and im pretty sure he is talking about himself in this song... he is really humble- much love for manchester orchestra!
Never knew this song was about addiction 18 years ago, until my friends started dropping dead around me. My dear friend, my roommate, another middle school acquaintance and those around me. This one hits hard.
I love all his acoustic versions. The way he intentionally (or unintentionally) changes the words makes the song actually sound LIVE, opposed to a dead on version from the record. What's the fun in that? So thank god for Andy Hull and MO.
The lyrics in this are so deep. "To pray for what I thought were angels Ended up being ambulances And the Lord showed me dreams of my daughter She was crying inside your stomach"
Dude, i just heard this song once, and it totally matches any guy who goes to a bar and can't get a single person to talk to him. Thank you, Andy, and bottoms up
This is from my favourite album of all time! It's a masterpiece. There's not a note on the whole album that i would change. I was in hospital a while ago.and there was a tv in the room. I hadnt seen tv in a few years and was shocked to see all the "talent shows". This guy has talent coming out of his ears! But yet theres nobody even remotely like him on these shows. I know there is no accounting for taste but still. You got to respect him as an artist and stop watching these shitty shows!
once i realized what this song was about (and what i feel its about) i realized that this is one of the deepest and saddest songs ive ever heard....and this version is just....bliss for me
I listened to it with my parents only a few feet away and had to stop myself crying. I intend to listen to it later by myself though, I think this song is exactly what I need...
Oops, just to clarify for everyone who have misinterpreted the meaning of the song; it's actually about his stage presence. He's unsure about his performances sometimes. The part about his wife dying I'm a car crash was a dream he had. If you don't believe me, look up the interview.
okay lemme rephrase. The stanza that goes like this "I am but a clean man, stable man, and alone man." to "I said that im just fine" If any guy has made the descision that girls are nothing but trouble, mostly due to the fact that they won't talk to them but when they hook up with someone else it turns into a disasterous breakup later, those words fit perfect. because if ur sitting at the bar watching everyone have all the fun, you turn to the bartender and say" i need a little more i think."
The saddest song I have ever heard in my life. I listened to this on repeat for days after my first breakup, just because it felt like he was going through a similar pain I was. Such an amazing man.
12 years later and this performance still stops me in my tracks. Just beautiful.
I totally agree! I just saw them in STL last month & they were awesome!
One of the most underrated song writers of our time
It's weird to me that so many people care about his lyrics being exact. It's his song, he can sing it how he wants. And change the words if he'd like.
Still one of my all time favorite songs ❤

Big ups Manchester Orchestra!!
I heard this since my daughter made a playlist CD full of artists she found and liked. this is awe inpiring.
This session makes me feel deep. This is what music is about! SO grounding, so beautiful, so heart wrench. He s not playing or singing. He s feeling.
i can't get over his expression in this song.. you can just see the pain in his face when he sings the words... LOVE IT
Pretty cool to see someone working stuff out in front of thousands of people all while still putting out such good music.
2019 and still one of my top 10
2020 and still my number 1
Thank you for this. You have no idea how much this song means to me.
