  • Jo and Bokken Demonstration by 'O Sensei 植芝 盛平
Aikido was created by Morihei Ueshiba (植芝 盛平 Ueshiba Morihei, 14 December 1883--26 April 1969), referred to by some aikido practitioners as Ōsensei ("Great Teacher"). Ueshiba envisioned aikido not only as the synthesis of his martial training, but also an expression of his personal philosophy of universal peace and reconciliation.

you know, just because one dojo sucks, or lets say isnt that good doesnt mean all of them are like that...plus, what is "that" aikido? everybody does what they can, you can do more. everybody has a different style. we have three yondan senseis at our dojo. they all study under the same master and every one of them has a unique style and approach to techniques and sill they are all very good...so maybe the problem is also in you

In this video, even though he's 70 or 80 years old, he's effortlessly moving much faster than his younger counterparts.
Above all, I think it is proof of one of the achievements of martial arts.

To me, takemusuaiki is the highest level of consciousness and perfection that one can achieve. It is like martial meditation, where you simply allow something to exist. I can only hope that one day I can achieve that level.

    Thanks guys, cheers.

Morihei Ueshiba, this old man, has founded the Aikido. More you become old and better you become if you train yourself always.
The muscle power go away with yrs and technic become always more important. Search others video of him. he's fantastic and search others aikido videos for example sensei steven seagal

so very interesting that a man so grounded in the world and such a powerhouse is so agile. yet his students which are also very grounded are so clumsy next to him. then you compare those students to their students now and you see the same thing. oh i wish i could have studied under o sensei.

@KurtCobain198666 aikikai is a rare & dying art as most only see aikido. consider yourself lucky if u r learning aikikai; i find it more effective and flows more smoothly than aikido. very good at weapon disarm, it can be deadly!

The most amazing thing is that is he just does NOT show off. He is just plain good and sincere.
That is a huge difference with nowadays when there seems to be a contest for the best uke throwing. He does not even try to impress or go fast: he does not need it.
Note to self: study his entries (irimi).

This old man that you say he's moving slow are you seeing him when he turn the jo? (the stick wood). O Sensei Ueshiba is 80yrs or more here.
He go up he go down he jump and turn all around.

i like how he ignores the blade and attaks the hands and handle, reminds me of the intersepting fist name, but in ation.
i think humans get in 2 a exepted way of fighting in diferant times and ways, then someone comes up with freash ideas and a new style is born.

not just because you can´t understand aikido, does mean it´s Fake... best thing you can do is to go an aiki dojo and try.. Aikikai or Iwama Ryu. then you can say if is a fake art.

Regarding the comments about the music associated with this view of O'Sensei, although this music is better than most, I personally recommend to all of my students that they turn off any and all sound when watching him work. It is then actually possible to 'hear' the impact of his strikes as they formalize in space. I think there is something definintely worth emulating in this.

Great footage, and for the most part beautiful music. Don't get me wrong, I like the "Hello Zepp" at the end, and in some ways I think it does somewhat fit the power that O' Sensei had...but at the same time it almost seems out of place and too...violent/sinister for such a peaceful man. Either way, love the video.
Only wish I could have taken even one class under him. Thankfully, I am fortunate enough to study in the dojo of the great Gaku Homma Kancho, who I believe continues O'Sensei's work
