The best place for a zombie apocalypse would be a big sailboat in the great lakes. Fish for food, surrounded by fresh water, and I've never seen zombies swim before. Although storms might be an issue. Maybe lake mead instead. There'd be no storms to sink your boat.
Storms can be very rough in lake superior at least. Especially during the winter Also ice in the great lakes can go far. Also scurvy would be a major issue.
