  • I've bounced back and forth some time between cordless and corded polishers. Some of them just work better for different scenarios. However, my use of corded polishers has slowly been decreasing while my battery-powered usage has increased.

    Unless these companies learn to shave $100-200 off the top, I'm not replacing corded with cordless and would never advise any business to do so. Mirka polishers better be made of gold to pay almost $900 with taxes for a transition. Detail shops aren't in the advisory business like me with bill rates of $500-1000/hr+

      @Ruhdiculus 10 месяцев назад +2

      It’s an investment tool that would pay for itself. You want to have something nice and reliable when you’re using it alot and making $$$ on cars. I get your point but that’s like saying just because you make $500 an hour doesn’t mean you should buy a Porsche when you can buy a Chevy.

    • @markthayne2408
      @markthayne2408 10 месяцев назад +2

      @@Ruhdiculus No, its not. Unless they plan on providing massive discounts to the business, its not an investment for them, its a "nice to have" for the hobbyist who doesn't mind high costs. If that is your philosophy, you must be in the business of lower profit margins.

    Great video Matt, I love the stay tuned for more crazy statement at the end. The Mirka AROP-B is the best by far. Totally agree with your advice on 1, 3 and 5 inch. I like having five and six inch on one polisher but yeah the flex pxe80 is a well built machine but it just doesn't quite make the grade for me. Good but not great

    I love my Milwaukee 15”. Start with two fully charged batteries. Once one goes dead, throw it on the charger that the kit comes with and you’re fully charged by the time the second battery dies.

    I know Matt doesn’t like Flex cordless that much. I really like the smoothness of XFE 15, but it can stall more unless you are pretty experienced. I also have the rotary PE 150 and the geared XCE 8 as well as tge PXE80. Batteries last longer than it takes to charge. Now I did just buy the Mirka and it’s so ridiculously smooth and powerful it makes you want to polish the whole car with it lol. The iBrid nano is absolutely necessary to get into tight places, but it’s really junky. I stops a lot for no reason and is janky to change orbit heads. I get why Matt has 4 of them lol. The PXE80 has the quick connect which is cool, but yeah Matt is right, it’s an “ok” 3” and too bulky for a 1”. But I keep it as it has a place. The new Rupes polishers look awesome, but I am in kind of deep into Flex.

    Very cool to hear you're working with Mirka, Matt.
    I'd personally like to see Rupes update the Nano. Definitely a useful tool, but I've always held back on the Nano with the thought that if I'm gonna spend $400 on a tool that sounds like an electric toothbrush, it should probably come with a shroud around the neck to protect tight areas from getting dinged up. They've got some cool carbon fiber designs these days...maybe incorporate that material into the neck?

    Have the Mirka aswell its good and smooth with low noise to consider but the stings lol u have to buy it now and dont click add to cart lol. I tend to use the PXE80 a lot after i did the hack and made it into a corded battery so i can maneuver and the tool is so much lighter.its much more versatile just know the limits of the tool because the Flex and Milwaukee have a lot of potential.

    I think the new Rupes HLR polishers are going to be the way. The Rupes stuff does give you the option of being corded. Far as Milwaukee stuff goes on batteries, if the funds are there is the 8.0. The 8.0 is the same size as the 6.0 physically and weight. I have both Milwaukee cordless rotary and Rupes corded. I do like the Rupes rotary better, just don't like the way the battery is positioned on the Milwaukee.

      I can totally see the benefits for those who are mobile but honestly I’m used to dealing with cords and not bothered at all with them. For me I would much rather have the same consistency of power when dealing with paint correction. It is one less variable to worry about.

      They have the m12 rotary sander/polisher in 3 inch, it’s great in the body shop with a hard pad for bringing up denibb’s or ghosty’s, they really need to put a da head on the same body, would make an epic pair. I usually use the m12 polisher to bring up rough cutting denibb’s then use the m18 15mm throw with the rupes yellow or white foam pad to get rid of holograms and add depth

      I find heat to be very manageable and almost a non-event, assuming you are using a proper speed (4400RPM-ish). You can usually polish right over vinyl graphics without issue. I just use less pressure and keep the pad nice and flat.
