my ass would've done the same if i wasn't broke
@@alicemayumi i made a mic after seeing her vids and it cost what like 10 bux? (i did have an old phone lying around but i bought the xlr cable and an adaptor)
you can buy a much higher quality mic than this crap for $40 these days. I can recommend a few, but I recommend going with a $300 Shure mic, to be honest. It'll give you a great intermediate podcasting quality without entering professional territory.

i've been made aware the prison clear tech statement in my video is wrong so to not spread more misinformation here is the correct reason: They are clear so that inmates don't hide contraband inside of it.
Or weapons 🔪, that's exactly the explanation what i was gonna tell you😅
They are RCA< cables (your 'a/v' cables)
no shit 🤣
@@AAA-fh5kdyeah rca was what i was looking for but when i bought mine on ebay i looked up AV and found results that way so i just remembered them as AV cables when i was making the video haha i wasn’t reading off a script, forgive me 😂
It could still also be partially for the reason you said.
The phone audio is a really rad touch. It feels like listening to a friend calling you from the 90’s❤
sounds like a clear skies reminder on flight. we didnt sound like this on the phone in the 90's :p
Take the audio and halve or quarter the bitrate and you would have that old phone sound. A light bitcrusher would do it as well. Basically, add some c r u n c h.
Yes but she is talking into the listening end.
@@headcrab4090 yep we used to do this when we didn't have a mic. just plug headphones into mic port and the speaker will reverse the sound. i've recorded songs like this lol
@@totally_not_a_botI think it's kinda like using a synth plug in vs an actual synth though, using original hardware is so cool
The aesthetic here is so powerful. The lo-fi audio. The washed-out colors. The old-ass TVs. The music. It's such a specific vibe and it's making me weirdly emotional.
For me personally the only thing missing is it being snowy outside with a streetlamp
New A** tv's are just lame and boring too
@@Warp2090Yeah, I hate having a clear picture. So boring.
I was about to comment about the prison clear requirements. My niece, she’s 13, wants a CRT tv with the built in VCR. I recently gave her mine and she’s been nonstop watching a bunch of Sailor Moon and all my old Pokémon VHS tapes.
So wholesome😊 She's got taste! Hehe
Cool
A lot of those combo units are Funai's. Lets just say, they are not very good...
Horrible to work on. Don't recommend.
that's what's up!!!
That’s awesome!!
I have so much respect when younger people appreciate and keep alive old technology!! I grew up with CRT TVs and still have one from about 1997, the year this creator was born.
The fact that you're using an old school CLEAR telephone as your mic really drives this whole thing home! I love it!

@@svicidellvma positive its intentional

It's so strange remembering when all this tech was current like it was yesterday. These eras come and go so fast, it's all so fleeting. Thanks for sharing this, and helping us appreciate a moment in time.
Exactly my sentiment, you being a doom kid could mean you grew up during some wild times of tech, practical effects in horror films and analog. I love looking at the future and past of tech. CRT is dope for old games.
I love the telephone microphone. It adds a level of nostalgia that I never thought I'd experience again or kinda didn't know I miss it. It reminds me of long holidays away from home and then you get to call friends on a payphone to check in and tell them all about your awesome seaside holiday. It also reminds me of long phone calls to my school friends. Talking crap for hours on end over weekends.
I went on a long bus trip a year or two back only to find myself in the big city with a dead cellphone and no power bank. It only dawned on me then that payphones don't exist anymore.
I LOVE how this video is from July 2023 yet exudes nostalgic old school 2007 RUclips vibes. This girl is so rad with her sweet collection. Rate 5 stars.
Man I remember when RUclips had a rating system instead of thumbs up/down
@@Night_Rider83 Do you miss the old RUclips?
@@AlexLawSG Honestly yeah. Much less clickbait crap, ads etc. People used to make videos to entertain people, now they just make them for money
@@Night_Rider83 When I started watching RUclips it was near the end of that era. It was starting to become what it is now. As soon as money got involved things changed. It's weird to think people used to make videos on here just for fun and as a hobby.
@@AlexLawSG exactly, I always wonder where all those genuinely passionate youtubers went. Either became greedy for money or just quit
Crts are ideal for retro gaming. The Smash Bros Melee community is known to use them because they provide no input lag when playing
speedrunners use them too
I remember touching the CRT screens and feeling it. Good times.
Your RUclips channel is why I love the internet.
I was also born in 97. I remember as a kid plugging in the AV cables for the PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Wii. I was mind blown when one day I found out that the video signal is carried only by one cable. The other two are for left and right audio channels. Haven't seen a CRT in years. Digital displays are nice, but I truly miss the look and feel of playing these old consoles on a CRT
RGB and component use three cables to just carry the video signal (S-Video too), and those are the better quality connections.
Component is rare today because it was reserved to high end TVs. Most average TVs have RGB and/or S-Video (RGB in Europe and S-Video in the US).
P.S. Since component uses 3 cables just for the video, a component cable has 5 RCA plugs (red, green and blue + stereo L and R).
Yeah looks best on CRTs, the graphics were pretty much made for it, next best thing is OLED, even better oled and emulator with crt effect on display
I too was born in 1997, although the only consoles I had growing up was a PS2 I inherited from my grandfather on my dad's side of the family after his passing that I never got a memory card for (I just never wanted one since I rarely used it if I am remembering correctly) and a Wii, but I too love technology and was amazed by much of it, that is one reason why I am now in college to become a computer repair person
As someone who is obsessed with retro technology, it is really cool! Thanks for sharing your collection 😊

I LOVE THIS! this is how i grew up with CRTs theres a big difference while flat screens are nice and light you miss something. Also, this video kinda reminds me of that one bjork interview where she had torn apart a tv and was explaining in her terms what each component did lol. if you haven't seen it WATCH IT NOW
When she said "if you've ever wondered what it looks like inside a CRT TV" I thought "..you should watch Björk explain it to you"
People think I’m batshit crazy for using these but I think they are hypnotizing in a good way. Plus, old games look way better on them.
Totally true! I wish my parents didn’t get rid of ours because I’ve gotten really into retro games in the past few years. Now I can barely even plug the consoles into the tv!
This is such a nostalgia trip for me! I miss my old CRTs, but they were just so big and heavy. It became harder and harder to justify having them around each time I moved house. I miss my trusty Panasonic. It was so good for gaming.
so true. i have a big 40 something inch one, and im getting so old now, and now my back is bad, and i can't move that thing anymore lol. kind of funny

_"you can _*_almost_*_ get it completely clear"_ i like how it was kind of a minigame to get the antenna just right
I love the look of transparent plastic electronics. There was a lot of engineering that goes into everything, I want it on full display.
I have a DS Lite that has an aftermarket transparent green shell. It is beautiful.
You moving the aerial around unlocked a core memory of me as a child having to constantly manipulate our TV aerial throughout most of my youth, and when you find the “sweet spot”, having to sit there, not moving your arm throughout the whole show, lest you lose the picture.
A man who knows! Whilst everyone else is tucking into their dinner!
I'm a fellow CRT collector and enthusiast, and I really enjoyed seeing your video in my recommendations. I've been dying to get a clear one, they are very cool looking. My pride and joy is a working Japanese set from the 1970s. Also, very cool telephone microphone, this is the first time I've seen one of those. I did not know that people born in the 90s also had nostalgia for CRTs, I'm very happy to learn it, makes me feel a little bit less old. All the best!
this made me feel super old. seeing a kid collect these "antiques" which are basically just stuff i still own even today, makes me feel so old lol
@@humanbean3 It's alright, think of yourself as one of the OGs, and a badge of honor. Not everyone lives long enough to get old, so there's always a positive side! :)
also born in 97 and CRTs are totally part of my vision of childhood. even as old as 13 or so i was still playing my xbox 360 through an absolutely huge sanyo CRT.
I was born in 1993 and I absolutely love this stuff too. My old friend was born in 1995 and her whole thing was collecting 90s nostalgia.
People in Russia still use CRT TVs - especially old people (really old like babushkas who's 80-90), poor old people, securities at some work places etc.
Pretty cool.
CRT tvs have something special about them that remind us of a more "human" time when we werent so obsessed with machines,AI and algorithms.
They were just obsessed with television...

This is crazy, I am old enough to see items from my childhood seeing a resurgance. I saw a HS aged group of kids wearing grunge and one of the had on a Nirvana shirt. It's so cool to see the youth exploring vintage culture and tech.
Your channel is really a trip to the late 80's to early 90's.
Something that I was excited about during college was the old tech stashed away in my professor's telecomms lab room.
From analog oscilloscopes to nixie tube watches. But the coolest thing was the CRT monitor that he disassembled and exposed each part of the circuit and its function.
In my opinion, looking at old analog circuits from a crt is like staring at a mechanical swiss watch (but that watch is really an electron accelerator, lol).
Of course, digital tech from nowadays made in silicon or galium arsenide are really complex and the manufacturing process is nearly witchcraft. But still, the challenge of designing analog circuitry for very/ultra high frequencies is something that amazes me. All the impedance matching networks and signal control systems are something to stare at hours and wonder how the engineers figured all out.
TL;DR: I like old technologies.
Great content! Cheers 🍻
Later than that though. They didn’t have DVD players then.
This channel gives me so much Nostalgia feeling it's just incredible!
All of this feels like the late 90s and early 2000s, I'm talking about before 2013, especially from 1998-2009 time.
Thanks for sharing this and bringing this good feeling of the past back again.
CRT is hands down my favourite TV Tech. Zero Motion Blur(Unlike todays sample and hold TV"s like OLED, QD-OLED and the worst offender of the 3, LED), with motion clarity(480i) Matching the resolution of the display itself. And best of all? They go for dirt cheap. People are nearly giving them away. Favorite CRT i ever owned was a 32" Sony Wega trinitron CRT from the mid 2000's. That thing was a beast!
I recently got a 32" component-capable SANYO for free and it's been amazing for my retro gaming needs! I've been using it along with a Mister FPGA to play all the old stuff as accurately as possible (outside of the original consoles, of course). Love that this old tech still has a following!

Gotta roll with composite or even RF to fully get that NES & VHS nostalgic kick. I just don't get the appeal of playing 8-16 bit consoles with those HD Clone Consoles on HDTV's, since it ruins that roundish cartoon aesthetic that you get on a CRT with sprites, and instead the characters wind up looking like a set of razor sharp squares. Pretty ugly imo! :P
i’m going to cry this is all so beautiful! i’ve been huntinng for my own crt for a while now but i can’t find one i love, so i’m planning on buying one beat up and restoring it.
I was born in 1981 so I find this all interesting. Up until recently like this year or last year, did the 90s begin to feel like "a long time ago". Up until recently the 90s felt like just a not far yesterday. I was a teenager so these times were just normal parts of my life. I even have detailed memories of the 80s which is an even greater muse and inspiration for creative endeavors I want to fulfill. It is interesting how you like to collect all these. I remember my grandpa had one of those hand held tvs. But yeah good times. Nostalgic memories. Good friends. Good buddies.
Ramona Flowers' CRT collection. Neat. Thanks for saving these from the dump.
This is so cool, with enough messy cables this could have a serious Lain vibe.
I just couldn't justify getting a CRT, too big, can't find spare parts, not as power efficient, etc.
Maybe there's one lying somewhere in my old storage room.
I love old tech like this, it doesn't even need to be good, love the old clunky stuff, really shows us how far we've gone. i don't really have much old tech, just a 4th generation monochrome ipod and (isn't all that old but definitely outdated) a ps3 super slim, and I just like to sort of relive a bit of the older days. I kinda wanna get one of those big clunky early 90s mobile phones; not to use it, but just because it's kinda odd and cool
So cool. I really regret getting rid of all my CRT monitors and televisions. I had a couple from the late ninetie4s and early 2000's but my favorite was a black and white set from 1983, it looked so great and still worked! My grandfather gave it to me when I was like 4, so I could have a tv in my room, and I still remember watching the basic channels on it, then later hooking a DVD player up to it somehow (Not sure how, my Dad did it for me
Enjoyed the video. It is fascinating to me seeing the love for these old CRT devices. I am 55. I am old enough to whole arc of these going from state of the art to e-waste. I occasionally volunteer at e-waste collection events. One Saturday I think we must have had at least 50 CRT TVs come through. All sizes and shapes. It won't be long until there are not many left.
The phone mic is amazing. I felt like a teenager again. Those were the kinds of phones we had in the 70s and 80s and your mic absolutely reproduces the experience. I felt like I was back in the 80s talking to a friend for hours. Nothing sounds like that anymore.
I hadn’t wondered what the inside of a TV looks like since Bjork showed me, but I’m glad for the reminder. Will you please sing us Hyperballad for 10 hours?
This takes me back to the 90s. Thanks for the nostalgia. Its a shame about Brandon Lee and what happened on set of The Crow.
Using the handset as a mic is sick 😮 old tech is so cool. Such a nice voice for narration, too.
I live down south, out here you can find crts sitting out on the curb, so many people throw them away, I've got a RCA crt to play my original Xbox on looks like a 20 inch screen... works perfectly....

The reason for the clear tvs, I had heard, is to keep inmates from hiding contraband in them. I think it would be simultaneously hard for a guard to look at a TV and figure out what part might be missing, as well as too easy to know if something serious enough was missing, by way of it not working properly.
Some prisons let inmates have their own TVs in their cells, along with walkmans with headsets, that's what cleartech is used for.
Yeah.. she said that.
This was explained in the video
@@cleverman383 I watched the segment twice again, it isn't mentioned. Read my comment again?
@@YouAreStillNotablaze You're right. She said it was to prevent inmates from stealing parts. It's to prevent inmates from hiding contraband inside, like you said.
What just happened? I suddenly landed into this video and I'm already totally in love with the audio. What a gem of a channel the algorithm has presented to me today. I ended up binging a lot of your videos. Thank you for making my day that much brighter
Wow! All of this is just so awesome... CRT TVs, the phone mic audio, the purple transparant gameboy!! I had all of these in the past too... and even worked at a CRT TV factory for a short while. I took pictures of the factory even though it absolutely wasn't allowed, just because the factory just looked like a small steampunk city! Awesome video Juliana!
My favorite TV as a kid was my 1977 Sony Trinitron. Despite it being 12 years older than me, it had a better picture than any of my newer TVs. I used to watch Letterman all the time on it.
I still watch TV on my 100 pound Sony Trinitron CRT. It is nearly as old as my granddaughter. She took pictures of it and I ask her why. She said her friends can't believe that still use a CRT TV.
Man you took me back with those rf setups. I was kinda poor growing up so we used alot of old tech and hand me downs. I used my grandmas super old Sylvania crt that only had rf inputs. We'd then plug that into a vcr (don't remember the brand), and on the front of that had an rf bypass to plug in a game console. I also had a really cheap rf transmitter that barely worked with my old Sega genesis. This brought me back to simpler times lol
I guess that’s why also started to collected crt TVs and that crt collection that you have is just awsome 😊
That video mixer is awesome! You could come up with so many combinations.
Seeing people play with 'novel' things that used to be a norm to me usually makes me chuckle a little, but your presentation makes it feel warm and nostalgic.
These are awesome. I'm a CRT collector myself but I tend to go for the 32 inch ones cuz I'm insane lol I can't get enough. I just love the technology so much
I found some large CRTs last year at a thrift store (really nice Trinitrons, one was from the early hd era) but wasn't strong enough to lift them into a cart and I feared trying to get them upstairs. I regret not going for it but hopefully they found a home with a more dedicated enthusiast.

I wondered what was going on with the audio until I saw you actually have a landline telephone as a microphone. Last week I just made a VST to generate DTMF tones and a phone voice filter so I can use it in one of my songs later. This was all nostalgic.

So beloved CRTs have a promising future.
Very cool! I saw EposVox do some videos about using CRTs and it got me thinking about it more.
I think some older content just looks better on the CRTs. Especially old video games. But I enjoyed Star War more on VHS on a tiny CRT than I did watching the Blu Ray. There's just something special about it. Who knows why?
Best to you!
www.tiktok.com/t/ZT88c22WT/ they really do! i like this explanation of it
For the little RCA, sometimes if the audio works but the video doesn't, it just means that the video heads are dirty.
Try cleaning the heads with a video head cleaner from a reputable source and it just might spring back to life...
the telephone mic is completely unhinged and i love it. love the whole channels vibe.
It's great that you appreciate this technology. If you haven't seen the movie "Pi", I recommend it as the main character is surrounded by CRTs.

This is the coolest channel I've ever found in my life. Continue in the same spirit and you will achieve unprecedented results! ❤
Entire profile is Elfen Lied, person of culture I see. Nice!
Most of my TVs growing up only had the RF coaxial input. The ones with composite av cables were always so expensive. Although, I did see some older TVs that didn’t even have RF jacks. They only had the antenna dipole input which would pick up a lot of interference leaving you always fiddling with the antenna. These TVs were from the 1960s or before.
What a fun collection! I remember wanting that little Casio handheld as a young teenager. 😀 Impractical af but so cute and cool!
It's not crt though, you would be disappointed by picture quality, it's like the original one in Sega Game Gear. 😬
Kinda neat stuff - I remember all this as I was born in the late 70s. Makes me nostalgic - especially (weirdly) the sound of your voice over the old phone
this was so relaxing and fascinating to watch
I'm really happy younger people care about these TVs and put so much effort into a retro tech based presentation.
Very nice collection, new subscriber here. I really love the phone you use as mic, it gives that old audio feel which is sorely missed these days and as someone who enjoys industrial music a lot it kinda gives that feel your listening to vinyl. It is fascinating to see people still interested in things I grew up with. I still have a few CRTs myself as I never throw away electronics. I was considering donating them to a local thrift shop, but now I think I might just start using them again! My favorite CRT I have is a computer monitor from an old Commodore 64 :D
Heavy serial experiments lain vibes.
That A/V to RF modulator/converter thing is very smart, never thought about that way of inputting newer stuff on old TVs. Cool stuff, I discovered something today
There's something very relaxing about this low-fi quality. First time here. Just bought a bunch of dvds from a "goodwill" - I'm a bluray/4K guy mainly, but when the dvds are 1€ piece, I just decided to buy lower quality to get some movies I haven't yet seen. the DVD quality is ok, it really is fine against the higher price point of the HD stuff.
Okay so a couple of things.
First: THANK YOU for putting the background music titles at the bottom of your video when they come on. Incredibly annoying when I watch a video and search forever when I can’t find a song.
Second: I am digging the really laid back vibe on this, almost pseudo ASMR
mad respect to a girl into this obscure nerdy boy stuff! i grew up through the crt age and vhs. hell, I was like 15/16 when I got my first dvd.

Love your collection Juliana. I’ve got a basement full of CRT sets from collecting sets people put out for trash after they got flat screens.
What a cool thing to collect - unwanted & outdated tech! You can probably get many pieces on the cheap or given away, but maybe not the coolest gadgets. Nice presentation.
I adore the old phone microphone, the vibes are immaculate
I love this. I'm working on a short film/music video using a Handycam, and I just picked up a CRT computer from the curb. Old tech is so cool.

Girl after my own heart. I wish I had the space to collect such things if for no other reason than to preserve the original experience of certain old media and video games.
Dude. I used to have an old little 12" (or maybe smaller) tv with a VHS in it, and me and my friends would sit and play split screen multiplayer on it. God playing games on that with half of a little screen to look at lol. Greatest times of my life. lol
Portable TVs actually blow my mind out, people were experimenting so much back in the 90s
Portable TVs been around since the 70s
I get a nice flashback from this. The CRT I remember the most is a portable crt radio combo. It was long and rectangle, I thought it was fascinating growing up. The brand was either Zenith or Sharp.
I love this so much. I collect portable TV's as well and was excited to see that you linked a video on how to transmit to them. Been wanting to make all mine work into a wall of videos for so long!
