You know, I grew up with this music and have always loved the 70s - 90s. It just hit me today watching this video the difference between music back then and now. And this is strictly my opinion and not meant to offend anyone who prefers today's music. I feel like a lot more detail was put into music back then. With the exception of Bruno Mars and even more so Silk Sonic and I'm sure there is more, you don't see that a lot anymore. We used a variety of different sounds in our music, whether it came from instruments or our own mouths. lol We had choreographed performances, costumes (even if they were a little out there lol ) We toured constantly to promote our albums and the singers could actually sing and sound good even without auto tune.
Groups this large, also included the Band who also played the instruments. That's why this era was so amazing. Record companies wanted to save 💰, resulting in what we have now.
Musicians dressed that way as even today they dress more elaborate than people in other facets of society. I was in my 20's during this time and I can assure you that we didn't dress this way in our everyday lives. There were many people in groups back then because bands were more authentic and played there own instruments instead of how music is produced today. 🙂
"Curious" is still the jam!! Midnight Star made some great music. That's why this particular song was sampled TWICE in 2018: "Smile (Living My Best Life)" by Lil Duval, Snoop "Serious" by Colonel Loud, Rocco Barrino (featuring Fantasia)
These people were on an episode of Unsung. They all went to school together as children. The Callaway brother’s mother was the group’s manager. Money was missing so the band hired a private investigator. Turns out the brothers’ mother was the their. They didn’t put her in jail, but it broke up the group. The brothers left afterwards.
It’s a band! There was no singing to tracks back in the day the band played live for 95% of every group’s performances! That’s why there was so many members!!! Real music, real talent 💯💯💯
If Midnight Star's "band" concept confuses him, then he's really gonna be confused by... Atlantic Starr Starpoint Five Star Mac Band Klymaxx The Time etc.
The "supergroup" LSG (Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill) remade this song on their first album in the 90's. Their version is nice, too. It features popular 80's and 90's rappers LL Cool J , Busta Rhymes & MC Lyte. Their biggest hit is the #1 "My Body", which is another track you should check out.
Old school music is better than this generation music they trying to put out I grew up listening to the 60 70 80 90 music 🎵 I am 64 love old school music this generation can't touch that they. Need to go and listen to the songs that wear made back then
I'm so happy you got yo 5 fo 5 ☺️ and you was feelin Midnight Star because this track was one of there biggest hits and it was sampled by Keith Sweat for his hit Curious ft. LL Cool J, Lil Kim and Busta Rhymes 🎧💙🎧
Many of the groups at time had multiple members. This one, New Birth, Atlantic Star, Parliament/Funkadelic, Rick James and the Stone City Band, too many to name. It was expected really. Oh it would be very disrespectful of me not to mention WAR and Earth Wind and Fire.
Midnight Star is a classic group they hit you with the funk & then hit you with ballad's. From the 70's thru the 90's men's fashion was on point back then now it's just boring camouflage this & that men wear or neon colored dress shirts. Back then men would where did your gear, now they say i know where you got your gear. Still have the there lp.s
Lol yes there were a lot people in this one and others. If you have a chance can you react to Nu Shooz “I can’t wait”. It was a cool roller skate song in the late 80’s. It was also used in a Target commercial.
If you wanna check out the remake, check out LSG - “Curious” with Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill feat. LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, MC Lyte. 🔥 ruclips.net/video/bHUnANXBfgA/видео.html
I’m only 17 and I listen to more of oldies R/B then Today’s music
This band had several great hits. They were sorely underrated. Great party music.
This is the beat used for Lil_ Duval and Snoop Dogg hit "Smile ( Living My Best Life)".
💯👏🏾
They had real musicians playing music, that's why it looks like alot of people. Lol
And why it sounds so good. Instead of today where they literally hit random notes that don't have any feel

Midnight Star - underrated! Pure funk.....used to glide home in the wee hours with them on the stereo....
As Prince would say real music by real musicians.
Midnight Star was one of the first cassette tapes I got when I really got into owning music. I liked their music growing up.
Thought he would have caught Living My Best Life 😂😂😂
