I got into one of the top universities in the world as part of a quota of kids from low income backgrounds and I felt completely undeserving of being there for the first few years. Even though my subject was my dream to learn about, I felt that my peers were more deserving than I was. That I was not equipped to handle this world financially or intellectually. Now I know that many privileges kids scheme their way into university, I have to look back and think I was probably more deserving than I gave myself credit for.

I feel you! i got a full ride almost to my college and I worked so damn hard for them. I then had a guy in college ask how I got them and I joked "cause I'm black and a woman" and he fucking believed me for 3 days. He was very sarcastic 90% of the time and he paid for all his college bills outta pocket even though we were both AP students. Acted like I didn't deserve it but dude that's not my mf problem I literally had to get scholarships in order to be able to go to that school and not be in devastating debt.

@@lexamona96 Scholarships are often awarded based on merit and can be difficult to get. You are certainly just as deserving if not more than any student paying out of pocket. It took me a little while to stop focusing on how I got there and focus on being there. You just prove them wrong by succeding at university.

Hurt my heart that both of you feel this way…and hope you continue your journey of being badasses. This country is set-up for most to fail. Your hardwork got
you into those schools, and your smarts kept ya in. You both earned those spots and deserved the same opportunity. We have to break the cycles somehow, and help isn’t something to be ashamed of but a tool to make that change happen.

Secondly, if you think USA is so bad, please come and try live in Ukraine, what with all the war... Or Iran or North Korea where people are persecuted or Nigeria or some other corrupted African countries where people don't stand a chance, and maybe you'll realize that it's not so bad in your country afterall. So my 1st choice school (a state school in the middle of nowhere) put my admission on hold until I get a better ACT score and raise my GPA a little. I took the ACT 3 times, worked my but off to get my GPA up, and did so many extra curricular activities and got in. What’s sad is I later talked to some slacker in one of my college classes who told me that he had lower scores and GPA than me and got accepted easily, which made me wonder why my school made me put all that work in if it didn’t even matter. Anyway I now have a bachelors degree and over $20,000 in debt.
