Just for motivation for the people taking btecs below I’m in my second year and I achieved all distinctions in my ten units in first year and I’ve had a offer from queen marys , York , uni of Liverpool and Lancaster so 3 Russel groups and 1 top ten uni to study biomedical science and biology with medical science , don’t think you won’t make your goal because u do a btec just work hard and you’ll get there 🤞🏿
hi, im a student and id like to ask afew questions about btecs since you have first hand experience and have done exceptionally well. Do you have any social media i can contact you via?
Breaking news women, I’m studying a btec extended diploma in applied science and am applying for Lancaster or York university. You can easily get into many unis for biomedical science with the applied science extended diploma Btec. Furthermore, both Oxford and Cambridge will accept said Btec qualifications with an accompanied a level. This can be done with for exam core maths or other qualifications in the ‘enrichment’
I agree that in theory BTECs are very much more challenging. Yes there isn’t a stressful exam at the end. However there is stressful coursework deadlines and the work itself can be fairly challenging/ stressful. Not to mention that the research understanding helps a heck of a lot at uni. To reference correctly to then knowing how to conduct foundational research.
Agree but for some reason.. not all U. I accept Btec3 and preferred Alevel. Even worse, some European countries don't recognise Btec qualifications (;. Dont know why why.. probably.. gov overslept something 😢
I agree with everything in this great video. It is disappointing that there is still those that believe A levels are better. This is totally wrong, my own experience is that BTEC is very highly regarded in the real world of business. BTEC illustrates that you can do the job as where A levels is known for it's theory orientation. So for those contemplating the two I would certaintly go for BTEC as they are more practical and Business gladly accepts them. Also when you go onto University the experience gained in writing, and researching essays will but you well ahead of A level students. GOOD LUCK on which ever journey you choose.
There are so many jobs in the field and yes over 95% of universities accept the BTEC qualifications for higher education. I have posted a video titled BTEC applied science level 3 qualifications explained where I answer these questions so please check that out and let me know if you need any more help😊

El profesor- you’d have to check with the individual universities. As far as I know, most that accept BTEC on its own ask for the extended diploma. Some ask for the extended and an A level in chemistry. I would make a shortlist of around 8 u universities that you may apply to and directly call them before you make your UCAS application. I hope that helps. Let me know how you get on!😊
I wanted to know if the BTEC Extended Diploma is the the same as BTEC Level 3 Diploma applied science the same or different. Is it regarded the same qualification for universities.
Hi Shreya, The BTEC extended diploma is the one that is equivalent to 3 A levels and that is usually the one people do if they want to go to university. The national diploma is not the same as it is worth 2 A levels. I hope that answers your question? x
I would say A level biology is a bit harder because of the fact that all of the assessment is at the end of the course. Btec has continual assessments so you can chunk it a bit better. It depends where you are applying for nursing (as in which universities). Some universities might accept the health and social care BTEC and no A levels at all whilst some might want applied science on its own or even as a combo with an A level. I would advise you to look at shortlisting maybe 10 universities which do the nursing course and looking on their websites to find out what their entry requirements are. They usually detail their requirements fairly well but if you find they haven’t got all of the information, you can always call them and ask to speak with their admissions team who will most definitely be able to help. I hope that helps answer your question! Thanks so much for sending that through! 😀
Hi I didn’t do well in my chemistry and biology exam for GCSEs, so my teachers don’t think it’s right for me to take it as an a level. But I really want to get into medicine. Do you think btec applied science would help me still get into a medical course at uni ?

I really want to get into dentistry or around that field like medical, do u think it would be possible as I’m doing health and social care CTEC apparently it’s the same thing as BTEC
Hey Maya! I think the CTEC is similar to the BTEC but delivered by the Cambridge technical exam board (OCR). So if you are doing the extended diploma with them, then that should get you into a university. From my experience, courses like medicine and dentistry are very competitive and most universities still prefer the A level qualification but some do foundation courses or entry level courses and they accept BTEC qualifications. I expect you’d have to call a few places to see if they accept the CTEC in health and social care. It’s worth doing a quick Google search for “foundation medicine” or “foundation dentistry” and seeing which universities come up! Hi Shama, it can indeed. If you do the extended diploma and achieve high grades (DDD and higher) universities will certainly consider your application.
Out of curiosity how difficult are the btec exams compared to A-Levels, for instance is the content you need to learn for btec roughly the same for a level exam? And are a levels overall more difficulty exams compared to BTEC?
Josh Fairling Hey Josh! Thanks for your question! The exams are a bit of a mix. Some parts are slightly easier than A levels, most of it is similar and some parts are a higher level than the A levels. You should be able to access some past papers for free on the BTEC website to have a look at some questions to get a good idea. I would say that the A levels are a bit harder to achieve a higher grade in and part of the reason is that all of the topics end up being in a longer exam. For BTEC you have a fewer number of topics in shorter exams plus you get a chance to resit any exams you don’t quite achieve higher grades in. I hope that answers your question! 😀
@@BioTeachLondon Hi thanks for your response, I was luckily enough to complete the BTEC Extended diploma in Applied Science using the 2010 specification which included no exams. I do feel the exams are unnecessary in BTEC as most students chose btec simply to avoid exams.
Josh Fairling fair point! The course is still majority coursework so it’s still very suitable for those who don’t like exams or don’t perform well in them. Don’t quote me on this, but I think BTEC brought in the exams to bring the qualification more in line with A levels. So they are that little bit more robust I think. As a teacher on both the older qualification and the newer one, I strongly feel the newer one prepares students very well for university without being too daunting in terms of the exam based assessment. I definitely think the A levels and the exams at the end is more of a nerve wracking experience than the BTEC exams but of course it’s a matter of opinion and a students own experience.
