13 years I spent on opiates and whatever drug coerced through my veins. So many nights I spent alone in a hotel room getting high and stuck. Many of those nights just wishing and praying for a peaceful resolution to the madness. Most of the time hoping that I would not wake up from the last trip. This song speaks dearly to me. I have felt angels holding me back into this world not letting me leave. I have spent the last 6 years free from my addiction and I feel blessed and lucky I made it through. If anyone is going through a crisis...please remember that there is a brighter day and just hold on.

Love in the arms of the angels peace is what we all need
18 years ago I lost my husband due to a suicide. In 2006 was the saddest year of my life 🥺😢, my son has barely turned 4 yrs old on January 1st and my husband passed away 14 days later. My husband and I were separated and we had worked things out to come back together and start all over but in laws family didn't want for him to come back with me he was between a rock and a hard place without knowing what to decide so in his five senses he decided the wrong choice. For me it was very hard to deal with this situation all by myself and to raise & support my son who needs so much. Then in 2 weeks I started working everything was going fine and 2 months after they gave me laid off my car broke down, I started getting sick and I ended up with a very bad depression cause of my husband passing, I almost passed away luckily in the hospital they stabilize me and unfortunately I ended up in dialysis and now 18 years later I'm still going to dialysis 3 times a week my son already is 21 yrs old and in 2 months he'll be 22 yrs on January 1st. This song reminds me of my husband, my soul mate my best friend my lover the best father that my son ever had. Now he's my guardian angel 😇 watching and taking care of me and my son. He will always be the love of my life and I miss him so much 🥺😢.

On Nov 20, 1998, I got a call at work about my mom who had collapsed. She had suffered a stroke and was in serious condition. Filled with fear, worry and sadness, I could barely see through the tears as I made a dash for the hospital, 20 minutes away. I wasn't paying attention to the radio until, suddenly, this song came on...Angel.
In an instant, everything around me quieted down. My heart rate slowed...my tears slowed...the sound of the traffic around me, disappeared. I listened to the words and the melody and felt a blanket of calm come over me. I knew, no matter what, my mom would be alright.
Any time I hear this song, it brings me right back to that night. It brings me back to that car ride...back to that hospital...back to my mom's bed side where she told us how much she loved us and where we would lose her two days later. Any time I hear this song, I am reminded she is alright.

My house burned to the ground a few days ago. My wife and son were not there. I was the only one at home and survived by some miracle. I’m not a religious man but the line “You were pulled from the wreckage” started to go through my mind. Now when I’m alone i put the song on repeat and it helps me get all the tears out.

I am 72 and moved to Denmark when I was 64 or something like that. I'd sold my house but I didn't have all my possessions (the rest was going to follow on). Someone deliberately burned down my house. With the insurance money I was able to buy a nice small appartement her. Occasionally I think... where is?..... oh yes... You can and you will move on, I promise you that. It's all in the mind and the most important is that no one was killed. Keep inspiring yourself "pulled from the wreckage" Yes, you were. Gratitude....

My brother died of a heroin overdose in a motel room in August 2011. I read out loud the lyrics to this song at his graveside burial. For me, it will be forever his song. I listened to it this morning on the 10th anniversary. I cried.
I slightly adapted the lyrics and read them out for my grandfather's eulogy. Nice to know someone else had a similar idea.

Yesterday on my way home from work, I stopped at a church with a crucifix outside where people lay flowers and remembrances of loved ones. I stop there often and pray and some sob due to some profound sadness I have been experiencing. I always leave a trinket for the angels..shiny coins, some other small item that might give them delight. I stood in the rain and cried. When I started my car, this song was playing..just the last two lines. You're in the arms of (a) (the) angel. May you find some comfort here. Powerful. Thank you, angels and universe. Played this song at my daughter's funeral she was 15 years old. I swear it takes me back to being at her service. She passed in 2007. Her leaving broke my heart.

In 1998, my first fatal car crash I responded to as a Paramedic with the the ambulance, a 7 year old was killed. I tried everything to revive him but we all know there's no return from trauma like that. (I had a few other critical patients). This was the first song that came on the radio as I got in my car to head home. Needless to say it was instant therapy.

My son took his life 8 months ago at age 45. This song is one of a couple which have sustained me through this tragedy.

My beautiful wife of many years was both my second chance and my angel. She was perfect in every way and will always be in my shrivelled heart. Life with her was beautiful and one long honeymoon, now it's cold grey and pointless. Time, it turns out doesn't heal all wounds. This was her favorite song and sometimes I can still hear her singing it in the kitchen. Her echoes remain even months later in quiet moments and in my dreams. I play it when the pain becomes too much and for that I will always be grateful to Sarah McLachlan.

I can identify with your hurt. I lost my mother abt 7.7.91 right after, actor, Michael Landon passed, 2 a stroke. I lost my father 2 bone cancer on 12.29.08. I knew that some day their day 2 pass over was gonna come. Not only my parents, but all 4 grandparents, 2 aunts, & 1 uncle. Be glad 4 the loved 1's that still remain. 1 thing that has helped me, which can help any1.....is coming 2 faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the antidote 4 all the hurt that comes our way. It's almost been 7 years since I had contemplated suicide as an escape from from everything that had gone wrong in such a short time in my life. I remember when she said she wrote this song for Jonathan Melvoin - keyboardist from the Smashing Pumpkins - after he OD’ ed on heroin. Although I’ve always LOVED her music, it didn’t mean much to me on that level at the time. Fast forward ten years I was in the throes of my own opiate addiction and almost died in a call room two different nights. I’m an anesthesiologist who had easy access to the “good stuff”. Only for the grace of God I woke up with a tied-off tourniquet and the needle still stuck in my arm. Here I am ten years later in recovery. Thank you, Sarah, for all you’ve done.

My brother in law passed away July 2021. I never realized how much my husband and I miss him. He was such a great, kind and compassionate guy. We saw my sister in law and him a couple times a year since we lived all most 2 hours away from them. We always enjoyed their company and never ceased to enjoy and laugh. He suffered with cancer. I am sure he is finally at peace.

You ,myself were not alone hurt pain loss and grief we have to go through this human process .That's love ....After losing both of my parents at 25 yrs old my world was gone...but that angel I held on to and still do 38 yrs later almost 60yrs old.

I’ve always loved this song, ironically the lyrics suited my youngest son who was found dead in 2019. It’s taken me this long to reach for closure. I’ve sent for the Coroners report, & finally tonight am transferring his ashes to a very beautiful, classy urn as I want him with me & he deserves, finally, a good place to rest. This is all hard as I have much guilt to deal with too. Things I could have done differently although I did as much as I could at the time. Thank you Sarah, no one else could have put the true heart in this song… for all of us out here.

Reading all the comments here I decided to join in. I lost my mom at 19, and later my older brother and my dad in a short span of time. I have no close family to speak of, and I have a long list of failed relationships in my lifetime. Long story short, I feel all alone except for my "Angels", of my family, friends, and loved ones who have passed. I believe they are with me and it lends some comfort. So if you're alone in this world, just remember you have Angels watching over you. Peace.

I think of the humane society commercials every time I hear this song but this was the first time I listened to the words. such a beautiful song. I seen a 3 year old girl at the homeless shelter today, broke my heart to a million pieces. We went to the store and immediately bought her 2 outfits and many toys. Her jaw dropped when she saw it and said "why it is not Christmas" We responded " it doesn't matter it's not Christmas just to brighten your day" Later in the day another homeless man approached us on crutches asking us if we could just buy him a loaf of bread, we did more than that we bought him a loaf of bread, sandwich meat. cheese, mayonnaise, mustard, chips, plates, silverware,drinks, money and cigarettes. When we took it to him he was in disbelief and gave us both a big hug a hug I'll never forget. He was so appreciative. We left and secretly went across the street to see what he would do with our gifts, he was feeding 8 of the other homeless people with what we gave him. It made my heart feel so warm, I wish I could have done more. If we could all do something to help some one wouldn't the world be such a beautiful place.

thank you but i wasn't doing it or relaying the story for praise. I wrote that to inspire others to help out just a little bit more. I wish i could help everybody, but financially that is not possible so i do what i can. If everybody did that there would be no hungry or poor.
A few days ago I bought a meal for a homeless I spotted in the street as I was going food shopping. Sandwich, a sweet chocolate treat, some biscuits and something to drink. He said thank you with a big smile. I thanked him back as he had no idea how he brought joy to my day. As I was leaving, I heard him calling his street pals to share his meal. I strongly believe that misery makes true friendship.

We lost our dog Samantha (Sammy-irish setter/German shepherd) a few years ago. Had her from a pup to the grave. She was the best dog we ever had, we loved her so much and she loved us, and protected us. But this abused animal commercial would always come on and one of the dogs looks like her and we all would group hug her and surround her with love every single time we saw the commercial.
