You ended up with a great variety of fish. Really like drop metal and drop jigging. Those rigs are a magnet for bait fish. I'm sure the no tie and no anchor is to prevent getting into the electrical works. I'm like you I think spot lock or circling with motor should be fine. Great video and very enjoyable thanks 👍👍
Catch Nuclear chicken, see wind farms, and deal with thrown up squid. Anchoring without anchoring. A lot to learn here. Nice catches and a happy boat! Thanks John!
Interesting about the Old Gulp juice. I noticed 2 years ago the exact opposite. I put a new grub on the teaser and an old one on the bucktail. Catch a fish and swap. The fish would always be on the new. The older stuff has a more potent smell and is browner in color. I assumed the fish could smell the rancid old juice. After that test, i dumped all my older juice and picked up the Gulp Recharge bottles (probably 4 to get enough juice). Its not the same, but it worked just as good as the new juice.
Yeah I’m honestly looking at buying a longer bay boat wit a trolling motor vs a deep v hull that costs more and can’t keep me spot locked because of how much of a game changer the technology makes. Nice video once again.
GE bought these guys, Alstom Haliade 150 6 MW which means it has 150m or 164 yard diameter that has a rated(peak) output of 6 million watts. There is a new version which is supposed to go into serial production this year. The GE Haliad X, 220m diameter, 13mw(million watts). Hope they put up lots more. Make a bunch of electricity, and good fish habitat too.
There are 5 windmills there off block island and 4 of them are shut down, not working. The cable that runs to the island is also exposed and the current estimate to rebury it is at 30,000,000 dollars, which will be passed on to the customers. Win Win NOT but at least the fishing around them is good.
How does Skinner make these fish magically appear out of nowhere?? I fish close to here and I cant get fish this size this consistently. I’m starting to believe he’s using magic...
Great video, John. I've always been curious how these things would look up close and how good the bottom fishing would be right next to them. Now I know the answer to both!
Found a color called “glow tiger”. It was a great color on the teaser and had tons of shorts all day. No keepers but seems like a color worth having imo.
How is this video NOT titled "JIGGING JERK STABS SKINNER!" lol Also, what's your guess on how many $$ of gulp on that boat at any given time. Has to be close to a kbuck in gulp. Great trip and vid as usual.
Always a great show, learned a lot from this channel. One question…what happens if Berkeley goes out of business? That would be a dark day on the Atlantic 😂
So I noticed in your video most of them where not working. From discussion with Block Island area charter captains 1 out of 5 may work while the rest are down. My question is if all 5 where humming would the fishing still be good around them? Did you try fishing the one that was operational and if so did you notice any difference. Trying to learn more since the feds are leasing a prime bottom habitat off us in Cape Fear NC region.
Nice video John. So when the fluke season ends, Do you have any predictions or insight on the upcoming fall/winter Striper run for the south Jersey area (2021/2022). Thanks :)
Big fight in North Carolina now to stop them from putting these wind farms any closer than 25 miles from shore. Residents and Condo renters think the sight of them will hurt tourism. But any structure seems to help fishing. It takes us 25 miles to get to water the depth you are fishing.
John I went to the usual fluke spots near the windmills this week, all full of small sea bass and kept on ruining my rig. In a situation like this what is my best approach? I moved spots and everywhere I went had no fluke just swarms of small sea bass
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Looking forward to those trips. I recently purchased a couple Old Town 106mk’s and am in beginner kayak fishing mode. Have not had the chance to really give them a try yet. Hopefully soon though. Going to try the area around Hampton Bays in the next couple of weeks. Any suggestions ? Thank you
They’re planting an absolute ton of these off of nj, the concern is migrating species like fluke, bass, tog that move off shore and inshore seasonally and how the power cables along the sea floor will affect them. Whales and porpoise are known to be sensitive to electromagnetic changes on the sea floor as well. At the meetings they explained that they’re good for 28-35 years before needing to be rebuilt, but take approximately 30 years to pay them selves off. You should have heard the pissed off locals and fisherman once that sentence came out of the representatives mouths. They just aren’t the productive clean energy they need to be yet. Step in the right direction, yes. The be all answer? Hardly.
yeah in most cases off shore wind is dumb. in the case of an island like here its not to bad and way better then burring oil or diesel. what really need is more nuclear
@@Elios0000 the payback on nuclear takes forever. Thats why no new nuclear in US. Its pure economics. The outlay is so huge. Offshore wind isn’t cheap but good luck planting wind generators on land in new england. People complain about the aesthetics when they’re 5 miles offshore and can only be seen on a clear day. Smog from burning oil apparently looks better. I’ve dived these towers a few times, they’re teaming with life where there was just pebble bottom. A few birds probably get chopped up from the blades, but now there is a huge habitat for fish. Gulls and sea duck numbers aren’t something to worry about.
Not saying you are knowingly lying, but there is no conceivable way they take 30 years to pay themselves off. These are GE Haliade 150-6s and while they are some of the most expensive turbines in the US, they pay for themselves within a decade at the very most. That 10 year figure is assuming the cost of the project was extremely inflated and the turbines are always having maintenance issues. The offshore turbines are generally a good investment assuming they are placed in spots with high annual wind speeds. Onshore is still better. Throw them in empty flat states like Kansas and Texas and they'll make farmers loads of money and people rarely complain.

i see a lot of nice size fish being caught. past history shows that can be a cause for concern. it's better to have a mix of shorts & keeper sized fish. tells me that it's a healthier fishery. unless Skinner is not filming the shorts.
I edit out the shorts. The videos are already running longer than I like. There's about a 1:1 keeper short ratio overall in this area, including Montauk, during the summer. If anything there are more shorts this summer than previous summers.
