    Great vid. I’ve had 6 different drones over the years and this is the one I’ve used the most due to it’s convenience. Convenience is king especially when the quality is as good as this.

    Still can’t allow myself to give up my Mini 2 due to the cost. Maybe one day…… but I love my mini2 and try and get it flying but with winter coming - and that means a lot of rain here in Manchester- probably just as well. Thanks for the ongoing reviews Ian. Always helpful and useful photo tips too.

    I remember how I had discussions with film production companies. We were convinced that in one to two years you won't need a €15,000 drone, DJI drones and other competitors will develop so well that you can almost achieve better results with the new generation. Especially when working on a volcano or something similar, you fly more relaxed with a €2,500 drone than with a 15,000 € part.

    Ian, great video as ever. I would like to echo what you said about the “change of use”. We recently took a 3 week vacation road trip through New England and Canada and the compactness and usability of the 3 Pro had me just using it like I would have my DSLR - in my backpack and taken out as required to capture shots during hikes etc. It cuts out a lot of the fuss and set up time. A great little package IMHO.

    Great review - Thank you. Quick question - I had a mavic 2 pro pre covid for property photography. One inch sensor was perfect. Had to sell it and rest of my kit. Thinking of getting back into it and I'm really attracted by the weight and lack of restrictions for the Mini pro 3. However 12mp is quite a drop down ( Although offers better file sizes for clients ! ) I'm wondering about your thoughts on the quality of the stills and the level of detail captured. Landscapes can't really demonstrate this so hoping you've shot something that might give an idea. Thanks in advance.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  Год назад +1

      For property photography 12Mp would be plenty of resolution, especially as it's mostly going to be published online rather than printed in large size paper. The mini 2 or 3 will give great results. The Mini 3 will be better if you can stretch to it as it has the larger sensor. 👍🏻👍🏻

    I just picked one up, the Fly More package and some Freewell filters.
    I’m always very sentimental with my trusty familiar stuff lol so having a hard time deciding if I really want to get rid of my Air 2 and keep this. It is slowly growing on me though. It has its own unique strengths to balance out the things I miss from my Air 2.
    Couple bigger and even some little things that bug me: no downward light so it dances all over if you take off in the dark, which got kinda hectic real quick and had to land. It is a lot more flutter-y and bounces around in the air more than my Air 2 which makes it looks like more of a toy than a “Pro” labeled drone. Also funny enough I miss the quick dual flashes of the Status Lights of the Air 2 vs the longer single on pulses of the Mini 3. Not to mention no rear signal lights on the Mini. The quick two pulse flashes look more serious and premium IMO.
    But, I can take the Mini to Canada to visit family and actually fly it there so that’s a huge plus and a big reason I bought it. Guess I’ll have to give it some more time and see.

    • @dji1tommy29
      @dji1tommy29 Год назад +1

      Oh, the mini aquires satellites BLAZINGLY fast! One thing I always didn’t like about my Air 2 it took FOREVER just to lock onto 8 or 10 in about 3 or 4 min. The mini locks onto 15 in about 30 sec!
      It’s also very quick to get out and up in the air without having to fumble with the phone. But I still have to pair it anyways to have maps and download pics to my phone

  • @krodgerson
    @krodgerson 2 года назад +1

    I still love my mavic 2 pro and wonder if I'll notice the difference in picture quality if I use the mini 3 Pro. If it is noticeable I can see me still using the maviv.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  2 года назад +1

      Good one. The sensor is smaller, but the individual pixels are the same size as the Mavic 2 Pro and the Air2S. So you will only get 12Mp stills, but the quality will be very good. Video should be barely indistinguishable as the Mavic 2 Pro crops down (ie doesn't use the outer ring of sensors) when filming 4K.

  • @ScottRae
    @ScottRae Год назад

    I need to rationalise my photography kit as I've just got too much that I'm not using to the full - drones being one area. So the question is.... As a photographer, Is the sacrifice in image quality from the Mavic Pro 2 worth it for the extra flexibility? In which case I can get rid of my Mini 2 and Mavic 2 and feel a bit more futureproofed (and ohhhhhhhh didn't realise signal strength was reduced in the UK! That explains so much!) And the smart remote seems like a no brainer - half the battle with my drones is having to hook up to the phone!

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  Год назад +1

      The individual pixel size is the same size as the Air 2S and Mavic 2 Pro. You're just down to 12Mp instead of 20 Mp for stills. IMHO the best camera is the one you have on you... You can always have the Mini 3 Pro on you and fly almost anywhere....

But if drone fly away you just loose your drone. This could happen even in potentially safe weather conditions.I think is depending of your expectation. Is you need more durable drone than air2s is an option, if you need holiday drone, where you fly little bie to get cool beach shoots, mini 3 pro will be good option.

      @@johns2260 As said, that's not the case. I've done extensive wind tests with the Mavic Pro, Mavic 2 Pro, Mini 1, 2 & 3, Mavic Air, Air 2 and Air 2S. The Mini 1 was very poor in strong wind, the Mini 2 better, But the 3 Pro is as good as the Air 2 S and better than the Mavic Pro. Weight is only part of the story. The power to weight ratio and max top speed has much to do with it. The Mini 3 Pro has become my default drone in all circumstances, up mountains and off cliffs. With the extra freedom to fly with its sub 250 GM weight, it's easily the best all rounder and will not blow away.....

I have two drones and four (4) of the 249g extra light batteries and the three (3) battery charger. I store the batteries in the drones or charger to minimize space in my kits. • @IaninLondon

      Almost all DJI batteries auto discharge after a few days, down to around 60% after 2 weeks; this is to help protect them. You do have to plan your flights and charge them up the day beforehand; of course you can always use a USB power bank for when you're on the road, or your car's phone USB phone charger.

    I have one downside for this drone. In direct sunlight (1-2 hrs before sunset) the sun flare is massive and all over the place and really strong and ruins the shot or video. I come from dji mini 2 and mavic air 1 and both of these older drones never had this issue. Both of these older drones had significantly smaller and weaker sun flare effect so it never ruined my shot or videos. I am very very disappointed with this fact. I tried a second version of dji mini 3 and it had the same exact sun flare ruining everything. Would be nice if you could make a video on SUN FLARE AND DJIMINI 3.

      Interesting. I actually love sun flares as I think they add a brilliant effect making the sunset more vivid. You might try removing the front lens (as if you were fitting an ND filter) to see if one less piece of glass helps......

    Thanks Ian. Love my Mini 3, but find the focusing (manual or AF) a bit hit and miss compared to the Mini 2. Anybody else having issues?

    Every DJI Mini drone outperforms expectations for the price. I fly the Mini 2 and previously had the Mavic Mini. Both provide excellent video and photos for the price of a toy. Maybe I will one day get the Mini 3 pro but at present I'm in no rush. Enjoy what you have and if you don't have one you should get straight out to buy one.

    4:45.....you mention signal strength flying in The US. Would the EU models revert to US Strength, if taken there? I thought you had to buy a US model for that!?

    Thank you Ian, a good and honest review as usual. I have had the Mini 2 for over 15 months and always considered it a flying camera. So to test the capability of the camera I followed filmmaker Philip Bloom and placed the Mini 2 on a tripod and with only the camera switched on filmed flowers & plants in the garden from a distance of around 1 metre. Very impressed with the performance and detail of lens and sensor at this distance, and detail you will not see at 50 metres plus. Very low light and night flights apart, for the filming I do, the camera on the Mini 3 Pro would not give sufficient improvement to make the change cost effective. If the flying is important then that would be a different matter.

    Hi Ian, hope you’re well, couldn’t agree more, literally just got back in from flying on Hayling where i live, wind gust today are 39-mph at 100-ft with no issues at all, obviously didn’t go to far or high, but like you said its about the shot, got what i needed without over committing the drone, still flying practically every day. Been flying the Matrice-300 lately for work,but it just doesn’t give you that same feeling as the Mini 3. 🧐.

    I found the same thing as you did. I had the mini 2 with the air2S and I now use only the Mini 3 pro. The recent firmware updates have helped with the range issues to a great degree. I highly recommend the Mini 3 Pro....it is a great all around drone....and as you say....quiet.

    Do you need a certificate to fly this with the extended life battery? I had a quick look online and it says that you need an EU licence but I thought the UK left the EU? Lol

    I’ve been using two chamast power banks both 23000mah battery but ones 65 w which gives the charging case it’s 30w power for quicker charges on the go and the other one which is slimmer but still gives 20w charge. Really useful to plug in while walking between areas.
    I recommend both if you need 20w version is £20 and 65w is £31 👍

    I ordered a dji mini 3 pro. It's on the way. Can't wait play. I wish I had ordered it before I left on vacation to El Salvador. Next year. In the meantime I'll probably take it to the Black Hills in South Dakota USA . Thanks for the awesome video.

    I have the mini 3, I'm not disappointed. I don't fly it much because I normally have a vehicle close by so I reach for the air 2s (with Autel nano as a backup) but if I were to hike, travel or if weight was a concern there is no doubt that I would pack the mini 3 along with the Autel Nano +. The Autel Nano + is a backup in case I run into any DJI geofence issues.
    Did you set a record for the best ever volcano footage? That video was historic.

    Well I just crashed mine and it is in for repair. The obstacle did not work in low light and the drone did not switch off when it hit the ground upside down deciding to spin on its back and break the gimbal bracket.

    No more nonsense about the gimbal cover being awkward I see. I use my Mini 3 everyday since it was released and my only complaint is how dodgy hand catching is and mostly I have no choice except hand catching. Already chopped my hand once. Have had the gimbal glitch on me twice too.

    • @IaninLondon

      The gimbal cover is still awkward at times, but so has every DJI drone been so.... Hand catching is not a good move in wind 😉
