Hi Kelly ! I am just confused with so much, and many great product , just can’t figure out which one will suit my oily skin. I have a rough skin with pores , mark on my face ... I did a review on the ordanary buffet serum. I need your advise and help , about the ordanary buffet serum . Is that good for pores ,...and beside is a bit under my budget ........ thank you
I don't think the buffet serum will do what you are hoping it will. I have not used it personally but I believe it is a peptides serum that is geared more towards anti-aging and the ingredients won't have a huge effect on your pores or dark marks. I would suggest looking into chemical exfoliation like azelaic acid (oridnary has one) to help with the rough texture, size of pores and dark marks. I would also suggest trying a brightening product like Vitamin C or even niacinamide to give your skin a brightening boost. (all available from the ordinary so should be affordable).
I am so grateful for your channel!! I used retinol, vitamin C and AHA’s for the first time and it damaged my skin. Overnight I had visible pores everywhere and lines connecting the pores which made me look 10 years older. I think the lines are from dehydration. I hope this routine can help me. Will the pores go away?
Diana Trujillo I’m right at a year, small improvements but moving along really slow. Just keeping it simple is probably the best option. I’ve read it could taking anywhere from 14-24 months depending how deep the damage goes. I wish you the best.
Diana Trujillo I read a few cases online, I can try and find them again and send you the link. I also spoke with a dermatologist (Dr. Madalene Heng) who specializes in skin damaged by laser/burns. She explained to me that in some people the skin hangs on to inflammation and it causes the large pores and connecting lines and prickling sensations. Mine happen after using a retinol for 3 days. I made a mistake and used the wrong lotion that contained retinol and didn’t even know. The information I basically got from her was to keep it simple, gentle cleanser, mineral sunscreen, and a light lotion. Nothing else. Don’t jump around to different products, the only thing that can really heal you is time and it takes a good amount of it, 14-24 months. Not really sure why this happens to some and not others though. Sorry you are going through this, I know how much it sucks. Also every site and person I’ve been able to talk to say it took them around 2 years, some 3 years. Hope this helped you in some way.
That Koran toner/essence does have Ceramides, but has Niacinamide which effects so many people differently. My skin was On the up and up and then once I introduced that toner my skin went nuts.
Hi, new sub here, love your channel, science based and no nonsense, one question, what is your opinion/review on the Paulas Choice Omega moisturizer and the serum, it has omegas, fatty acids, ceramides, cholesterol, hyaluronic acid, among other goodies, I’m not sure about the ratio, I love Startia Liquid Gold.
Hi Kelly. I have a damaged skin barrier. Currently working on healing it. Im looking for a low ph gentle cleanser. Would you recommend the Makep:rem or Purito? Thanks
I love watching your videos. I did try to buy the Make Prem cleanser but I saw this had Bergamot oil, and sage oil which I thought were essential oils? I may be wrong so correct me if I am. Thanks for the info. ❤️
Kelly Driscoll yes I LOVE that cleanser and I have a back up on hand. Sometimes tho, since I do use prescription strength retinol-a at night, even the Krave cleanser and be a little drying, and tingly. I just ordered the Liquid Gold & the Creamy cleanser to try. Have you ever tried the cleanser by Stratia?
Great video. Thank you. What do you think about Pyunkang Yul brand? Have you tried any product from them? I really like their Essence Toner, but have not tried anything else. Do you thing their products could be used for damaged moisture barrier of the skin?
I haven't tried them yet! PKY is good for sensitive skin because of their use of minimal and mild ingredients, however they really aren't going to directly heal your barrier as they don't really contain the ingredients to build up the skin barrier. But they can be a good choice for your hydration steps while healing your barrier just make sure to get your ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol!
So my moisture barrier is in super good shape and has been for a while. I've always had chronic dry skin, but Its typically always only been dry on the surface. I've never really felt that it was super dehydrated per se. I started tretinoin about a month ago, and have been really buying alot of products to keep my moisture barrier in check, bc Lord knows what could happen once the "purge" from Tret begins. My question is... Can you overdose on moisture? Lol! I just don't want to overdue it with too many barrier products and have it backfire on me!
First off, I really want to thank you for all of this great information. I didn’t know what was wrong with my skin for the longest time, but you made me realise that a damaged barrier is the problem! However, I’m having a lot of problems finding products to fix this problem because of some allergies I have. I was wondering if you could recommend any barrier repair products that don’t contain Naicinamide, honey or wheat? My skin reacts very badly to these, especially Naicinamide..
Hi Kelly! But do you use wash-off masks everyday when you are in the shower? I was thinking about it actually, what to do with my skin when I'm having a shower, and your trick seems to be pretty smart, there is just one thing that is bothering me - if you do this everyday, isn't it a bit too much, especially for acne-prone skin? Becaue too "delicate" skincare and too much moisturizing can also cause problems and mess with corneum for example (if it even makes sense in English, but I hope you understood what I meat). Anyway, would love to know your thoughts about it :) xoxo
Very informative and helpful video! I've recently gotten there new toners A'PIEU Cicative Boosting Toner which contains zinc, calcium, and magnesium and the Round Lab Mugwort Calming Toner, which also has madecassoside and the Keep cool bamboo water toner. Do you think those are gonna work for a repairing moisture barrier routine? Haven't tried any of them yet as I'm still trying on the PyungKang Yul acne toner but just got those 3 just got them thinking on their soothing properties for the summer. Definitely gonna follow the in-shower mask recommendations, I actually have those two masks! The honey mask is one of my favorites! I stopped using the cosrx AHA/BHA toner and benzoyl peroxide spot treatment I had prescribed, I was wondering when can I re-incorporate the cosrx toner as it really helps with my closed comedones and whiteheads? Thanks you!
I've only tried the Keep Cool Bamboo Toner and it's really an excellent and gentle choice to help hydrate your skin as you heal! I wouldn't worry about adding the cosrx back until your skin is feeling better because it's most likely going to continue to set you back in your healing process.
Just purchased the rovectin oil and Toner. Hard to get the Great Barrier Relief serum delivered to Australia - will keep looking. 1 Q for you Kellie - how do you know when you moisture barrier is completely healed and it's safe to move on chemical exfoliants?
Check out beauty Box Korea, I know they sell Krave Beauty internationally, not sure about fees but worth a shot! It's definitely a feeling and comfort level that's different for everyone. Signs to look out for is that your skin lasts from morning routine till night without feeling dehydrated, when you wake up does your skin feel like it held its moisture in? If yes, these are signs that your barrier function is starting to work again. I'd advise reintroducing chemical exfoliation slowly (remember your skin has had a long break so you will need to work back up to the levels you used to use). Good luck!
@@KellyDriscoll thanks so much Kelly. No that I'm thinking about it. I can't remember a time when my skin has felt hydrated from morning till night. My skin probably feels hydrated for about 6 hrs until it feels dry all over again 🙁. Thanks for you videos
So far I have only found 3 Asian skin care cleansers without essential oils Hada Labo Gokujyun Oil Cleansing, Make P:Rem Low PH Cleanser, KraveBeauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating cleanser. KraveBeauty Matcha and Make P:Rem Low PH Cleanser have citric acid which I rather not have since I occasional wash my face with cleanser in morning if I am using an active at night. Citric Acid is sun sensitive and does not play well with Sunscreen. For those that exclusively water cleanse in the morning citric Acid should not be a problem. But it is a natural exfoliate so can irritate a damaged skin barrier. I am still on the hunt for more cleanser options. I would love to see a video of essential oil free cleansers both oil and water based. The one you listed above P:rem Safe Me Relief Moisture Cleanser ingredients include essential oils : Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Sodium Acetate, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract. So that rules that one out for me.
Yes finding fragrance free cleansing options in K-beauty is really hard and as you mentioned Hada Labo, I've often had to go to J-beauty to find totally fragrance free options! (still tough though!)
They're different blends of oils and the face oil has more antioxidant properties than the multi oil. Face oil is a smaller bottle about 1oz and the multi oil is bigger at 3oz and is meant to be used on face and body if you want to. Either one is a good choice for barrier care, imo!
I like etude house double lasting foundation, it's not too dewy but doesn't feel drying on the skin. I'd say avoid BB creams with high SPF, sometimes they can be irritating to vulnerable skin, in my experience.
You’re great as always Kelly! Keep it up. I’m hoping that one day i’ll be able to try Stratia Gold. Got my eye on that for a while now. Just wanted to consume the current products I have and make sure it would fit the budget lol Xoxo ❤️
Do you still recommend that cleanser? Contains some essential oils. So the Stratia is a moisturizer? Did you layer that with the Cerave moisturizer? And the oils... Before or after moisturizer?
I'd suggest the Krave matcha hemp hydrating cleanser if you can get your hands on it, it's fabulous and totally fragrance free! I used liquid gold under cerave moisturizer. Oils can go before or after, I generally prefer before as I feel it absorbs into the skin better but that's just my opinion/experience, either way is fine.
I’m pretty sure that I damaged my skin barrier because I used BP gel for 5 months without a moisturizer and sunscreen (idk what the f I was thinking) but I’ve been trying so many things but seems like it’s not changing. My skin is excessively oily where I used BP gel (forehead) and seems like nothing is fixing my oilyness!!!! Help asap
You say that "this is the golden ratio".What is that ratio?I was informed that "liquid gold" does not have the right ratio.Stratia uses a blend called SK-INFLUX.In particular, a reddit post elicited a huge response and a good amount of outrage from the community.Optimal molar ratio which ranges from 1:1:1 to 3:1:1 AND these components should be at an optimal concentration of 1-1.6%. In particular, this study seems to support these numbers. Stratia used to make claims about using the optimal ratio (3:1:1) .Can you explain this?
Hi - just a question about the stratia liquid gold - it contains a lot of parabens. Parabens are super bad aren't they, everything is going paraben-free because of this... ?
The research on this is very split with some saying yes and some saying no, and by no means is everything going paraben free since natural preservatives actually have caused mold recalls on many, many products. The moderate view (the one I personally adhere to) is that the amount used in cosmetics is nothing to be concerned about and until natural preservation ingredients can be stabilized and not fail and cause mold, I'm for them. Do your own research, though, and follow what your gut tells you and what you are most comfortable with.
Hi, i was wondering if the Krave GBR contains all 3 of these ingredients? Ceramides, fatty acids & cholesterol all in the correct ratio like the Stratia?
Thank you for this very informative video! I’ve been searching everywhere for how to repair my moisture barrier. My one question though is that once you start using these products and heal your barrier, can you go back to your routine you had before repairing your barrier or should you now keep doing this healing routine? Or is there one product that we should always keep in our routine no matter what? Thank you!!
Once you're healed up you can absolutely go back, I found that I did lessen how much chemical exfoliation I used (more of a precaution than a rule) and I personally found keeping a ceramide focused product like Liquid Gold has helped my skin stay strong since healing up, but it's not necessary!
What about the cerave pm? do you think it’s a good moisturizer for damaged skin barrier? I love using it in the morning but I wonder if I need a heavier occlusive for the night time. I have oily skin.
I believe the ingredients are similar to the cream version so should be an excellent choice for day time, if you want something more occlusive you could try pairing with a sleeping pack or try the cream version out!
Kelly Driscoll thanks kelly. Also what about the waiting time? When you’re repairing your skin barrier how long should you wait between each application? Do you need to wait for the products to be completely absorbed or just layer them quickly to minimize the moisture loss?
@@21dzz Definitely want to layer on quickly, especially those first few layers because the skin is very vulnerable to moisture/hydration loss! Patting motions can help ensure things are sinking into the skin quickly. You can take a little more time after emollient layers like oil and creams to allow for absorption because their main function is to hold hydration into the skin, so you'll have a little more protection from moisture/hydration loss.
I’m currently using cerave Hydration cleanser,The first toner you recommended, stratia liquid gold and Aquaphor in the end But have not seen any results how long do results start coming in?
Between 1 to 3 months if you are doing everything perfect. There is also no guarantee that the products in which you are using will even work.Maybe you have a crappy diet, therefore no product will work.Be wise.
Absolutely! These products will also work to protect your barrier once you're healed up, I still use liquid gold daily to make sure I keep my barrier strong!
Hyaluronic acid is an okay ingredient for your moisture barrier, it's really not the best one though. HA doesn't contain it's own hydration, it relies on the air to pull it into your skin. If you haven't seen this one yet ruclips.net/video/nRazG2Us_dM/видео.html I really recommend checking this video about the drawbacks of HA. If you're in a humid climate the skinsceuticals will be fine to use but I'd highly recommend using a watery toner first and lean on that more to provide your skin deep and lasting hydration.
I've never tried it. NMF will help, they are one piece of the puzzle, I still recommend having some ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids in your routine as they will make the healing process much easier.
It's a good emollient cream but it doesn't have a lot of great barrier care ingredients in it, it also contains essential oils which is something I recommend avoiding if you are trying to strengthen your barrier.
@@KellyDriscoll are there some moisturizers you recommend? Or if other products in my routine contain barrier strengthening ingredients then does my moisturizer need them as well?
I love the cerave from this video and still use it frequently. Nothing wrong with loading up on ceramides but if you don't want/need more in your routine I really like Olivarrier they have two great creams that are essential oil free and the etude house soon jung line (FYI I haven't personally tried) has a really great, gentle ingredients list!
I don't have a damaged barrier.... Just moderately oily skin that breaks out on EVERYTHING.... So I wanna strengthen my barrier so do u think its alright to use the cerave cream?
I think the cerave would be a good choice but you might want to take a look at their lotion version instead of the cream. It has the same beneficial ingredients but much lighter and less rich than the cream version!

Kelly Driscoll Thank you ! I will try to use those products . Your information was very helpful .
T V Same thing happen to me! How are you doing? Any luck healing?
Same question: pores still viable and skin and pores are saggy 7 months later
Diana Trujillo I’m right at a year, small improvements but moving along really slow. Just keeping it simple is probably the best option. I’ve read it could taking anywhere from 14-24 months depending how deep the damage goes. I wish you the best.
Jay Jay where did you read that?
Mam do we need moisturizer if we use barrier treatment for healing moisture barrier
Yes it does! This video is a touch outdated, I would recommend the Krave Matcha Hemp Cleanser instead of the Make Prem!
Just damaged mine using witch hazel. 😭
Oh no! Hope these tips can help you heal up!
So... do you put the spf on after facial oil????
I want to return liquid gold but afraid of the Formeldahyde releasing ingredient. Why does it have to be in there
.
I seem to damage mine every winter, my summer skincare regime just doesn't cut it in winter
Great recommendations! 👌👌👌👏👏
Thanks, Di!
So is this a nighttime routine or day. Im confused when do we do all these steps
Have you looked into the cerave moisturizing cream yet? I believe it does not contain any of those ingredients.
how do u feel about vanicream lite lotion instead of cerave moisturizing cream ?
Can you use rovectin Barrier face oil outside?
Can you continue to use these products after the moisture barrier damage has healed?
Absolutely! They are fantastic after you're healed up and can be a smart way to keep your barrier strong!
@@KellyDriscoll Thank you :)
Can i use a mugwort off mask to my damaged skin?
hi! for the rovectin oil, do you suggest to apply after moisturizing or during the step of serums?
Can i use grapeseed oil for moisture barrier repair
Any other cleanser recommendations ?
All moisturizer or oil makes my skin more red & sensitive. I've tried cerave pm & nivea soft cream . What to do now??
@kellydriscoll hi! How long do you do this routine - is it now for life?! Or say 1 month? Thanks!
Anyone know the difference between rovectin multi oil and rovectin face oil?
They're different blends of oils and the face oil has more antioxidant properties than the multi oil. Face oil is a smaller bottle about 1oz and the multi oil is bigger at 3oz and is meant to be used on face and body if you want to. Either one is a good choice for barrier care, imo!
Thank you!!!!
Do you use all of these products? Do you have an updated routine of what you use in what order?
Are these products frangrance free?
Hi Kelly! What makeup/foundation would you recommend while healing the moisture barrier? Thanks!!!
Liquid Gold is amazing! I know what you mean, it feels good to work through your stash of products!
Did you end up trying stratia liquid gold?
Is jin Jung sun safe for sensitive skin?
Do you still recommend that cleanser? Contains some essential oils.
So the Stratia is a moisturizer? Did you layer that with the Cerave moisturizer? And the oils... Before or after moisturizer?
I'd suggest the Krave matcha hemp hydrating cleanser if you can get your hands on it, it's fabulous and totally fragrance free! I used liquid gold under cerave moisturizer. Oils can go before or after, I generally prefer before as I feel it absorbs into the skin better but that's just my opinion/experience, either way is fine.
@@KellyDriscoll
Ah thank you 🤗
What is your opinion on I’m from rice toner
Some of these have essential oils and are not safe for skin. The mask and the sunscreen have sensitizing ingredients.
You explained very good
Thank you so much, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
@@KellyDriscoll 😍😍😍😍😍
Real natural rosewater for toner ?
Also, I go for the dermalogica power recovery mask when my skin feels stingy. That mask helps heal your skin and makes it feel sooo much better!
Thanks for the rec, I haven't tried this one, will definitely look into it!
I dont think you'd be disappointed ☺
Yes it does, however the ratios of GBR are unknown! Stay tuned, I have a review coming soon!
cant wait!! 💕💕
Hye kelly! Is cerave moisturizer cream suitable for oily skin ?
You may want to look into the cerave moisturizing lotion instead of cream (beneficial ingredients are the same)!
@@KellyDriscoll thank you kelly! Ive ordered both the lotion and cream. And i'l see which one suits for me
Thank you for this very informative video! I’ve been searching everywhere for how to repair my moisture barrier. My one question though is that once you start using these products and heal your barrier, can you go back to your routine you had before repairing your barrier or should you now keep doing this healing routine? Or is there one product that we should always keep in our routine no matter what? Thank you!!
Also are there any products that you recommend from First Aid Beauty?
Once you're healed up you can absolutely go back, I found that I did lessen how much chemical exfoliation I used (more of a precaution than a rule) and I personally found keeping a ceramide focused product like Liquid Gold has helped my skin stay strong since healing up, but it's not necessary!
That’s very helpful, thank you so much!! ❤️
Can simply nicinamide 5% serum can fix skin barrier?
How do you know that your skin barrier is damaged?
If you think it probably is
Redness, increase in white heads just for no cause.
I have very sensitive skin and niacinamide burns on my skin, it feels like impossible to find the right products for me :(
Oh no! Sounds like gentle and hydrating is the way to go, lots of aloe, propolis and centella products will be great for your sensitive skin!
I’m currently using cerave Hydration cleanser,The first toner you recommended, stratia liquid gold and Aquaphor in the end But have not seen any results how long do results start coming in?
Between 1 to 3 months if you are doing everything perfect. There is also no guarantee that the products in which you are using will even work.Maybe you have a crappy diet, therefore no product will work.Be wise.
did it healed up?
When the moisture barrier is healed, can these products still be used daily?
Absolutely! These products will also work to protect your barrier once you're healed up, I still use liquid gold daily to make sure I keep my barrier strong!
@@KellyDriscoll thank you so much! 😊
super helpful video! Is a hyaluronic acid serum beneficial when having damaged skin barrier? (skinsceuticals b5)
I’ve read so many people said stratia liquid gold irritated their damaged skin skin ... I don’t know why
Hi Kelly. Would the ordinary natural moisturising factors+ HA be good enough? Have you tried it?
I've never tried it. NMF will help, they are one piece of the puzzle, I still recommend having some ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids in your routine as they will make the healing process much easier.
How do i know the ph level of my cleanser?
What do you think of Klairs rich moist soothing cream as a good moisturizer for skin barrier?
@@KellyDriscoll thanks!
