- Yet another beautiful ASTEROIDS all finished up! This has that super sharp image created by a vector monitor, out of production now for thirty years! PLUS, how easy it is to adjust the size of the picture on YOUR game!!
Just got 2 Asteroids out of a garage. Went trough both board sets and monitors yesterday. Both are alive. I have vertical adjust issue on one but im ok with that.lol
yes,,,cold solder header pins and leaky capacitors
Love Asteriods, had a club sized one back in the late 80s at home.
Ken Rawlings its a nice game!
Yes indeed, can't beat those classic vector graphics games. They were rendering genuine 3-D playing fields back in the 1970's. Good stuff, thanks for another great review guy's. LIVIN' IS GOOD, GOOD, GOOD!
Thanks for the guide to adjust the picture size. Just adjusted mine and it looks great now.
Glad it helped!
It looks like it's brand new. Great work as usual.
Thanks!
Hi Todd. Very nice. Appreciate the tip on the monitor adjustments. Do those 2 pots exist on Asteroids Deluxe board? Thanks Keep up the great videos!
Yes...its the exact same location!!!
TNT Amusements Inc Cool! I'll have to check that on mine. Thanks!
TNT Amusements Inc Todd, you're a genius! I can't thank you enough for pointing out those adjustment pots. I just tweaked my Asteroids Deluxe and now I can finally see the score, lol. Thank you!!!
There was a pharmacy in tbhis town that had an asteroid game to play.
Lyle Johnson Is it still there
TNT Amusements Inc No it closed years ago.
You guys rock Mr Todd, look forward to the Time Warp Vid. I have one that I'm restoring. Thanks for the tech tips!
It's coming tomorrow!
Thank you for your videos they are awesome! Any ideas on a asteroids deluxe with a shaking picture? Thanks!
Goingpostal1000 Cold solder joints on the monitor chassis for sure!
I have an Asteroids in my house. Sometimes only half of the screen is displaying and the other half is completely dark. Also can you put flat screens in these now. I think I need a refurbish job.
Nice Video of a really Great classic game
Realmasterorder Thank you!
I know it's just an urban myth but what do you think of Polybius? I find it an interesting story. MIB making games lol
It would be really neat if it did exist!! Watch this! ruclips.net/video/10YMtdPHBak/видео.html
Looks like somebody had blood taken! :)
That would be my wife doing that!
Hi. It appears on my asteroids monitor when it warms up... i see a white dot with a cir le around it. Like a bulls eye.. you ever see that on the black and white monitors
Try turning down the brightness...there is also a circuit called the "spot killer" that may need some work.
TNT Amusements Inc i turned down brightness to zero... still shows halo
did you say Zenon electronics for cap kits? Do you have a website for them or a phone number?
Zanen Electronics...he doesn;t have a website...but he always answers his phone..do a quick search! Hes a nice guy!
Thanks ☺
I thought Asteroids had the reflected monitor with the cardboard asteroids around the image.
That is DELUXE Asteroids! I have several videos posted with this game too!!
the cross hatch lines on my asteroids are warped...any idea on how to adjust it?
Sounds like leaky capacitors on both the logic board and the monitor
Hello Todd. I just picked up an Asteroids today from a guy in Bensalem, Pa who said he bought it from TNT around 1985! So the problem, of course, is....one of those little pots that you mentioned for adjusting the monitor is partially missing. The little dial (only the top part of the mechanism) that adjusts the "up and down" of the screen is missing. Player 1 and player 2 scores are not visible. Do you, by some miracle, stock these little "dials" ? or is there something else I could put inside the lower part of the mechanism, so I can make the proper adjustment to the monitor?
DeeJayWheels I would check with Zanen Electronics...he has tons of these cap kits...he makes them for obscure chassis and includes the pots in some...contact him!
Thanks for this video.
I recently picked up an Asteroids cocktail and can't quite diagnose the problem in getting it to work: In test mode it emits a single high pitch tone, then no additional sound. On the monitor it shows the cross-hatch pattern only on the lower half of the screen along with the dip switch settings display. The cross-hatch pattern seems fine (no stuttering, or uneven anomalies) except for it only runs across the lower half of the screen. When I try to adjust the X-Y pots on the PCB it only affects the lower half of the screen. Nothing will move above the center horizontal line. Now, when I switch OFF the test mode to PLAY MODE, all I get on the monitor is a single bright white dot dead center. I don't leave it on long at this point for fear of dot burn in. Any idea what going on here?
That tone means something is wrong for sure...and the issue is in the logic board. There are so many things it could be too...those boards are buggers to work on. I know someone advertises on EBay for Asteroids board repair...I suggest you send the board out to him!
OK. Thank you for your reply and suggestion.
I recently got my hands on an Asteroids Rev 1. I've gotten to the point where it sounds like the game is actually running now but no video... is that most likely just the caps needing to be replaced?
DarakuTenshi rarely is it the caps on the logic board...usually its in the vector generator that puts the video on the screen.
TNT Amusements Inc Here is the situation, when I turn it on I get no glow of any sort from the front of the monitor or the back of the monitor... sorry I don't know the technical term, but that red glow that comes out of the glass tube at the very back of the monitor.
DarakuTenshi Monitor needs to be rebuilt!
That sucks :( I guess I'll have to send the boards in to be fixed. I hope it's not the tube itself.
Just picked up a machine, everything seems to be working alright, except the sound dial seems to either be full blast "on", or completely muted. Do you know if this is intended on this machine, is the dial supposed to actually module in between? There is a loose wire in between the rotating portion and metal contact area, which looks like it might have been soldered. Perhaps it needs to just be re-soldered? If it needs to be replaced, any idea where I could find one?
I really do not know...not sure of the value of the pot but usually you can find parts on ebay or on the free forum www.klov.co
Thanks for the post. I just picked up an Asteroids with an original monitor that is really sharp except off and on when I shoot an asteroid I get a weird vertical and horizontal dot pattern for a split second. Almost looks like a secondary explosion. It isn't distracting but its not suppose to be there. Any ideas what it could be or how I could adjust?
cold solderr connections, leaky capacitors, dirty connections or ROM sockets....to start!!
Do you get any coctail or club size versions of Asteriods for sale these days?
Ken Rawlings We have a nice cocktail table Asteroids for sale!
TNT Amusements Inc How much? And how much to ship?would it be converted to run on 220V ( Irish Voltage)
Show us an Atari Battlezone .............Please!
