Living in Texas I camp in a lot in hog areas, they don’t give me much trouble. However I’m a hammock camper. I mostly shrug them off. Sometimes they come right up around my camp, but I yell at them and they run off. I’m a solo camper, always packing usually I have my AR, but always have a pistol. I’m 64 and my number one rule is you never ever go into the woods without protection. But don’t let those pigs ruin your camp. I am enjoying your videos keep up the good work.🐷
@@BODE318 thank you I appreciate your words. Hey rob another good decision. Dont know if it would work with hogs but my grandpa had a transistor radio he would hang on a fence post by his cantelope field to keep the coyotes out. They would bite the middle out of them and the watermelon. He'd put it on a talk radio station and then go turn it off in the morning. AM station back then. I didn’t know the hog problem was that bad in Florida. There are no wild hogs where I am in 🇨🇦. Probably because of the 3 feet of snow outside. Stay safe out there.

Dude, I kinda dig that tent, 28 oz, yeah thats a backpackers dream in my book. Was definitely hopeing it had a bug screen an a floor in it, from the intial pic it didn't, later it did, never have a tent in Fla that doesn't, snakes an bugs will seek a warm place, hence the floor an bug screens. I don't know where your at in Fla, but glad you carry a sidearm, I go with a 10mm or a .357 mag, especially dealing with hogs. Born an raised here an hunt to, they can be very territorial an nasty under the right circumstances. Big boars love to scrap anybody, you, me, dogs, each other. Along time ago like 45 yrs ago, we use to hunt hogs in Immokalee with dogs, an the worst I ever got cut was by a little 80 lb boar, think like a teenager getting in a scrap. He did have little 1/2 in cutters hanging out of his mouth, but got me on the inside of my knee, trying to get away from the dogs, cost me 12 stitchs that nite, as he layed open a 2 in gash on the inside of my knee, deep to, which led to the stitchs. So better to be safe rather than sorry when dealing with them. Where was this at in the vid, sure is pretty Fla land for sure. Thx for the vid Rob

An yeah I had alot of experience with them, whether with dogs an a knife, bow , Black powder guns, or gun hunting, can't wait for your next gear dump vid. Did you setup your new tent in the backyard, an how about waterproofed, even tho we haven't had any real rain, just asking.
@@Rob_outdoorz The video was fantastic. The video and audio quality were excellent. I would have left if those wild hogs got too close to me as well. However, if you ever get stuck, they are good eating.
Too bad the hogs scrapped the camp. Still a good vid. When I looked at the X-mid, it was still pretty expensive, so I opted for the Asta Gear Yun Chuan 1 and 2, in the 4-season, solid versions. I'm eyeing the X-dome 1+, but waiting until the fervor settles and I don't have to order it and then wait months to get it. All in all, great New Year/New Gear vid!
The x-dome looks great and is one of durstons newer models. I'm pretty sure he has them in stock. I really enjoy the trekking pole style stuff so that's why I went with mine. Lmk what you decide to go with and what you think of it
The regular X-Mid 1 is pretty good for the most part, but it has a very large footprint and the interior is tiny. I’m only 6’2” and it’s really too short for me. No room at all for gear inside the tent either if you use a 25” wide pad. The dyneema version apparently has a lot more room in it, but it’s also more of a single wall tent, so condensation is likely to be an issue. When looking for new gear in the future, always consider that durston has an insane online hype cult that like to pretend their gear is always the best, even when there are clearly better options for certain people with specific requirements.
Yes I definitely understand that and did not purchase this tent based on that. I was in the marked for a new tent and had many in my sights for months, decided on this one because it check the boxes for me. So far as a person of 6'4" and 215lbs I felt good laying inside. Like I mentioned, every tent has its pros/cons depending on what you are looking for as a backpacker, hiker, survivalist...to get the ultimate tent that checks every box for you would be the holy grail. There will always be a compromise you need to be willing to accept
