My Grandfather marched into this city during WWII. He was a member of The U.S./Canada First Special Service Force (Black Devil's). He was attached to General Mark Clarke's 5th American Army & participated in The Liberation of Rome.
The Anniversary for D-day The Normandy Landings June 6,1944 is coming up this week June 6, 2024. Today on this date June 4,1944 The Allies entered Rome & Liberated it from The Nazis. God Bless The People of Italy 🇮🇹 & Thank you to the Veterans 🇺🇲 🇬🇧 🇨🇦 🇵🇱 🇳🇿 🇭🇲 🇮🇳 🇧🇷 🇲🇫 🙏
While I love street musicians and artists and support them, after being in the Roman forum and coliseum 24 years ago, having that kind of act playing now takes away the authenticity, nostalgia and poignancy from the architectural historical vibe of being there. That's the whole point of the restoration. To appreciate the time it was built, not cheapening it with modern-day tourist tactics. Mussolini did that already by carving a road through the middle of the forum way back. But then, that's capitalism for you!
