I remember playing Pokémon X after midnight every night, with barely any internet connection. The wifi was so bad, my 3DS only got in range when I laid in a very specific position and pose. X & Y had these online functions where you could add random people from all over the world as friends and you could write a short sentence as your bio. I remember being so excited when I made friends in France, Canada and India and we talked using those tiny bio sections. Using as many improvised abbreviations as possible to cram as much as possible into that tiny section and waiting for the bio’s to refresh every 10 seconds or so to see the newly typed other half of the message. It was insanely stupid. But it felt amazing being able to interact with fellow Pokémon fans from all over the world. And the craziest thing was, we came back almost every night for weeks and weeks. We all had a couple hundred hours registered next to our bio’s… what a great time

Aside from the social aspect, there’s one other thing a lot of people miss about Pokémon games that wasn’t made explicit until Generation 5. In Gen 5, N battles you with a new team from the local area in every battle. This is supposed to teach the player to change out their team as they play. That’s why some of the Generation 5 Pokémon evolve so late: you’re supposed to use them in the late game. If you try this method, you’ll quickly find that grinding is a non-issue because most of the games since generation 3 give you local Pokémon that can beat the local challenge. The exception is Gen 2. Johto’s busted level curve relies on stat experience, so you practically have to develop a single team early on to win.

While I technically play solo almost all the time, I had always had people to enjoy Pokémon with. As a kid, it was my brother and my cousin, playing the games, tcg, watching the anime/movies. Friends at school, it became a common ground, people online as I began poking around more through high school. Even back when gen 5 was new, I was the only person I knew who had Black or White. But family/friends still expressed interest in it, still had other games to experience themselves, and soon after I was in high school and made a couple new friends who did have the newest mainseries games. Some of my online friends I can thank Pokémon for being a common ground to talk about.

I'm glad you brought this up! (and thanks for sharing) I actually cut a portion of the video discussing how my early experiences with Pokemon (the gameboy games / the tv show / the cards) were something that I shared with my family and friends and are probably half the reason for my warm memories of the series as a whole. But as that 90s era of hype started to fade I knew less and less people playing and its probably a big reason I dropped off after gen 4.
So to correct my statement slightly: I did play pokemon "correctly" as a kid in those early days to an extent but didnt realize it / took it for granted (whereas now its a much more deliberate choice). And yeah even still a lot of my actual playtime is solo but having somewhere to go and people to share ur progress with is the key.

Everyone connects to the experiences and essentially you create bonds with these people.

I really do feel that coop ruined scarlet/ voilet simply because it was over ambitious of them, I feel it's the reason why poke centers are just a desk near a land mark, you can't enter 95% of buildings, and after going back and replying the older games a lot of the charm I feel is missing. They had to strip it to the bones to make 4 player coop work and even thing it's tearing at the seams. :(

damn really? i didnt realize people enjoyed the building interiors so much that it ruins the experience without them. sure i think they're fun too, but most of them in older games were only a handful of copy pasted tiles until like sun/moon with all the important character bedrooms. but in s/v i didn't even notice it was different until after i completed the game and saw someone mention it online. i quite like the outdoor pokecenters, it really streamlines healing

    • @Eli-akad
      @Eli-akad Год назад +6

@@ciennaquidd6486 I believe it’s not the interiors specifically. It’s about having more to explore and interact with. It makes the towns less like just a hub for the next story section and more of a town, at least in a in game sense. I can’t speak for everyone but this is my take on it

    • @kaluth7668
      @kaluth7668 Год назад

@@ciennaquidd6486 Why not streamline breeding by removing ivs, that would save a lot of time grinding out breedjects and free up a lot of gts clutter, why not streamline battling by auto healing your pokemon after each fight and remove healing items, why not streamline the whole thing by giving Nintendo money for cardboard cards and just put a bullet in the games as that's all they really seem to care about now, merch, cards and maybe the anime.
It's not about "Oh boy, I can't wait to see what's inside this cookie cutter building" It's about what had to be cut in order to make 4 player coop work.
Oh boy! A tower! Let's climb it and enjoy the low res view! Oh boy! Hey gang, there's some ruins lets go explore the tiny ass ruins and maybe find a Gimmighoul coin. There's no life or soul to be found, even the caves are boring as fuck to explore let alone the world. Why climb a tower when there's either a Gimmighoul chest maybe a tm and that's it, as the view sure as fuck isn't worth it. I found a small cave and found a tera pokemon and some other useless shit, that was under whelming to say the least.
So here's my idea for pokemon coop. You take the game play of Pokemon Legends: Arceus and just make that the coop game, you throw in monster hunter style lobby and queuing up for a quest, now you don't kill them of course but instead of hunts you go out on a expedition like "Hey there's some Starly acting all weird, can you go check it out" You go around, stalk them and see what's happening then bam you find out it's some Shinx wanting to throw down. Or "Hey there's some weird ice storm and shit it getting real bad out, go out there and look into it", turns out you gotta deal with a enraged Alpha Froslass.
There's plenty of ways of doing a mulityplayer/ coop pokemon game, but to me Scarlet/ Violet sure as shit not the way to go. I really do hope that the next attempt is closer to like Legends Arceus though.

It wouldn't suprise me if rather than getting a X & Y remake, it's just dlc bolted onto Scarlet/ Violet. I came to the conclusion this year you're still basically meant to catch 'em all, which means having fun with friends like you said. I'm so used to playing alone, but hey, there are literally single player games, with no multiplayer. How are they 'not meant to be played alone'? Backseat gaming? Lucky you have friends.
Nevermind if you had a different system to everybody else or no internet at home/for the console (I didn't even know PS2 had internet stuff until years after getting a PS3 when we got 'decent' internet and everybody else I knew had Xbox) or people don't want to play with the disabled person in general, rather bully for them liking what they like XD
Let's try playing Another Code 'not alone', either of the two games XD Literally no way to even if you have an NPC companion for most of the game. If CING were still around I bet we'd have a third or fourth which would allow remote playing like Beyond Two Souls did.
I got my Switch in 2019 with Eevee, about crapped myself when I accidentally activated a second character in Viridian Forest somehow (Never done it again either on purpose or accident) because it wasn't something I'd been warned about. Same with Death Stranding. I thought they were both single player (and yes I turned the internet off on DS because I didn't understand how a bridge had appeared in the tutorial when mine refused to be made and had to be abandoned), I'm so used to playing Pokemon (and everything else) alone because the other 20-ish years had been that way.
I'm still struggling with the concept of MMORPGs supposedly being Multiplayer and literally just play by myself, don't talk to other players etc. Maybe one friend who introduced me to the game but that's it.

Wow! I had totally given up on Pokemon being for me for the past 20 years but that was a crazy enough change that I just had to give it another chance. And I'm so glad I did.

Regarding the 'bug-locke' I think you should use a team consisting of Vivillion, Scizor, Forretress, Rabsca, Lokix, and Volcarona.
Vivillion gets acess to the very useful Quiver Dance, Substitute, and Tailwind (which will most definitely benefit the painfully slow Bug types.) It's got Sleep Powder to sac over Substitute and Energy Ball to deal big SE damage to Rock types or Draining Kiss to prolong its health when it's Quiver Dance boosted.
Scizor is notorious for having only one weakness: (though your entire team is going to be weak to it), Fire. It's got the highest Attack stat among the Bugs (and the highest Speed if you don't evolve it from Scyther.) Great ability in Technician that'll power up its weaker Bug moves and loads of coverage.
Forretress for the funny, definitely wanna use one of these guys at least once in your playthrough since Explosion is just a funny thing. Would love to see you beat Geeta with a Forretress Explosion finisher. Also, hazards and great bulk.
Rabsca MIGHT be breaking the rules with Revival Blessing. I say that you're able to use RBlessing once per battle, and if that Pokemon is fainted by the end of the battle, you are no longer able to use it. Lots of Special Defense and Special Attack, too. Great damaging moves.
Lokix is available probably very soon after Tarountula. Axe Kick might clutch some battles. Also a badass cry. Didn't use him in my Scarlet playthrough because my friend told me that my Floragato would become a partial Dark type.
Volcarona is the strongest Bug type, no contest. Quiver Dance. Bug Buzz. Fiery Dance. Though do be wary because it's available RIGHT BEFORE THE WATER GYM. And it takes absolutely FOREVER to evolve.
At the endgame you should probably sac one of your lesser members for a Slither Wing, if you feel it just. Just remember why Slither Wing is next to Sandy Shocks as one of the worst Paradox Pokemon.
(I really like it's design, though. Don't think we've ever had a fluffy bug type. There are definitely fluffy bugs, though: moths in particular.)
(I, also, like Sandy Shocks' design. It looks like a 1960s rock star. It's just not strong.)
    (I have one named Kurt.)

But I don't care about all that. I've probably spent over 300 hours on them now, despite their many flaws. And the 3d models and animations still don't live up to Black and White in my opinion. But that's okay. I still really enjoy the games, despite their objective flaws!

I was a solo player since I was little, not because I didn't want to play with the community, but because no one of the community was there at all. I never had a friend play Pokemon with me, and when I saw some trade evos I was super super excited because they were so off limits to me that they felt like legendaries, even simple mons like gengar and golem would feel so out of reach that just thinking about them would be like "yeah those unique super rare pokemon". I wished so much for someone to play pokemon with since I was a little kid, and soon I'll be 19. My favourite games are all of the games gen 1 to 5 and legends arceus and in my spare time I'm working on a living dex where every pokemon has to be from their og generation games: for example charmander from r/b/y , totodile from g/s/c rayquaza from r/s/e and so on. Would anyone like to be gaming companions with me? I would genuinely be happy if I finally got someone to share my fun with.
To whoever has read this far, thanks for reading my silly comment,
    lots of love

I had grown so bored with Pokémon recently and I think the whole lacking of a community thing is why. I used to play the games with my brother all the time while we were in college and it had made me really love Pokémon especially competitive battling but recently as we’ve grown older it’s been hard to get that same excitement out of it. But you’re 100% correct, pokemon is so fantastic when done within a community.

Growing up I used to obsessively play Pokémon games and collect Pokémon cards, but none of my friends were ever into Pokémon beyond “I think pikachu is cute!” So, I grew up thinking that Pokémon was meant to be played alone, because I was the only person I knew that cared about Pokémon. Even today, this still stands. I have no friends so I had no intention to get Scarlet or Violet. I play Legends Arceus so much because I just love collecting and it is made to be played alone.
After watching this video, it really makes me wonder how much I’ve been missing out on. I’ve never played any game with friends before, mostly sticking to single player campaigns. Never considered how different a game could be with someone else. The issue is just I struggle to socialize and don’t know how to begin playing with people. My struggles and voice is so small that it feels like i will never solve this.
Thank you for this video. It has given me some insight.

i was heading to grusha's gym when I noticed a cetoddle that looked slightly different from the rest. sure enough it was a full-odds shiny - my first one since pokemon moon (besides pokemon go). i was so excited and hopped on a call with my online friend from england and we joined a union circle to show off our shinies and hang out. i told her that earlier that day i was shiny hunting for toxtricity but couldnt find one. she said she had some herba mystica so we made a sandwich together and headed to cortondo to find a red toxel. she had the shiny charm so it definitely helped but i wasnt having any luck until i had like five minutes left on the sandwich and found a shiny toxel with the perfect nature to get the form i wanted (high key) ! it was a very good day :D
tldr: i found 2 shinies, a full-odds cetoddle and a toxel with the help of one of my friends :]

I was sure I would find it, and I even took it personally and envisioned my treasure would encompass who I am and what I stand for in playing Pokemon. I came to a similar conclusion, and that my treasure is the bonds and memories I make on my journey. The characters, people I battle online, even pokemon I encounter, they all highlight my enjoyment for the series, and I can honestly say Scarlet and Violet has done an amazing job of making it feel steps close to that perfect adventure.

Because not every game needs voice acting and if a game wants to do voice acting it should be the developer’s choice
Don’t force them to do something they don’t feel comfortable doing yet
They’ll get there one day when they choose to
    It’s like sex
Don’t force it let them get to that decision organically and on their own
Can we just stop hounding gamefreak about voice acting it’s their game it’s their rules it’s their vision how about we just let them get there when they get there at their own pace
How about letting do things in their own unique way at their own comfortable pace instead of forcing them to be imitations
How about instead of rushing them to make a game with voice acting you let them move at a pace they are comfortable with
They will get there eventually one day just be patient

I can definitely agree with his statement that these games should be played with other people. Just seeing the GO commercial with crowds in the streets took me back to 2016 and seeing camps of people around hot spots trying to get rare pokemon, not shinies not legendaries but just general rare spawns. What is just as exciting, is sharing it with other community members and seeing their eyes light up. It really is about community and sharing your love for Pokemon with other trainers young and old alike.

I had to beat the whole game basically to get mount upgrades and what not. But now I'm breeding Pokemon to trade over to a new save file starting with all lv 1 Pokemon and 1 level 6 goldengo. Almost have enought coins for a second one just gonna evolve and level 5 gimme ghol
Just putting this out there but I have a theory that the amulet coin pokemon item might increase the amount of coins you pickup whether it's in it's roaming form or cheat form. I get more then 50 coins on the reg more 60 to 80 I've gotten 100 twice and I've heard legends of ppl finding 777

My first game was LeafGreen and we pretty much shared it with my brother, trying to figure it out together and choosing our team together. After that we each had our own games but quite frequently we would plan a "shared adventure", where we would play together and fight each other after each gym badge. That's how I sometimes played gens 3 to 6, and even went back on gens 1 and 2. Gen 7 was around the time where we parted ways due to studies, and I struggled to enjoy gens 7 and 8. I couldn't quite understand why at first and it took me a while to understand that one of the reasons was that I wasn't used to playing pokémon completely on my own. It's weird how despite being a series I love so much, I can't just pick it up and play it whenever, it's truly different.
I did enjoy gen 9 but that was mostly because the open world made it more dynamic and because the story was more interesting to me.
I know it's a dumb story but I wanted to share it here even if just for myself, because this video definitely hit close to home.

That's my way to keep myself entertained for years to come. :)
It also gives each games replay value. Take Legends Arceus for example: Enamorus has two forms, and both forms are boxable, but it's one Enamorus per game, so I'll have to play it twice.

Once was with from a friend about 8 ish years ago who happened to have the same game as me in his junk drawer and I'd picked up my old ds around the same time. We had 3 battles and I won 1-3. The second was when I kind of got into Pokémon Go for a small amount of time. I'd never done a raid until I signed into a discord and just showed up to a raid spot. Both instances were probably the best times I've had playing the game, and I'll never forget them. I have never played a Pokemon game with anyone.
Edit: okay. I have made trades, and even bumped into kids in public playing it. But never consistently played the game with siblings or groups of friends.

My goal: is to become the ultimate ghost type trainer in scarlet, while I just play the game normally in Violet.

Totally agree with the social aspect of especially ScaVio.
My sister and I have played Pokemon since Yellow/Red but we've almost never played it *together*.
I'm 28 years old and S/V is the first main series game I've played since Diamond/Pearl (much like you, it sounds like) and I'm having a BLAST with it. My sister and I will hop on the phone and just run around the world and shiny hunt and do all sorts of stuff together and it's just infinitely better.

To answer your question of "what im doing in violet" well this is my first EVER pokedex that I finished and got the shiny charm for so... I'm working on IV and EV training a few Pokemon. They made it easier for people to understand IV and EV training so I found it fun to actually do now. I'm enjoying myself. And when im not playing that im playing Legends. I love that games old world theme and play style. ^-^
Also, you go guy trying to be like Larry. You can do it!

How could such an on the nose "no duh" kind of statement be packed into such a super wholesome video?
