Personally I think buying local just to keep your own economy going is the best bet. Even if it does cost a bit more. 🤷♀️ We need to support small business and local farmers the best we can.
We don’t have access to an Amish store here. But we’re in Azures home state and it works for us. But I don’t recall them advertising to be cheaper than anyone else. Their mission is to offer clean food to those who wouldn’t normally have access to it. They carry things like butter as mentioned in an above comment, etc., as part of their service. But it’s not cheaper. I’d never buy it there. Where I do save is on bulk organic grains and beans that I cannot find here in any amount. And most of the time the grains are grown here in Oregon. Plus for me, there is no shipping cost.
I am near an entire Amish community that offers goods and services beyond just a local store. They have greenhouses, bulk food stores, hardware stores, shoe store, leather working shop, diary shop, furniture making, and much more. We are so very blessed to be able to have had the opportunity to move here. We are getting to know some of them and they are just such wonderful people who have a positive look on everything.
Rachel I bake gluten free for my husband. I use standard recipes and the only change is I always add and extra egg to the batters. Gluten free flour tends to make things drier and the extra egg really helps alleviate that problem. Good luck.
I absolutely love Azure. The warehouse is 3 hours north of me. Our driver lives down the road from me. I heard there is an Amish/Mennonite store about 4 hours away. The nearest town with grocery stores, Wal mart, Costco and Whole Foods is 70 miles away. I would rather support Azure than Costco or the rest. I do believe the founder of Azure would encourage you to shop local at an Amish store if that's your healthiest option.
Thank you for that information about azure compared to Amish stores. That makes me feel a lot better about not worrying about trying it. We have access to lots of Amish and bulk country stores here. We have a whispering pines too that my mom visits when we they are up at family property. When you mention yours I always have to do a double take 😆
We have a very similar Mennonite store near us called Squirel Creek. Absolutely love it! I have been going there since I was a little girl and they just finished doing their second addition and I am so happy for them! A family member also has a flourishing green house right next door and he also just finished another big ad on as his quality is unmatched and he is so knowledgeable! We love having these 2 businesses so close to home!
King Arthur has an amazing Gluten free pizza crust recipe on their website. The recipe uses their all purpose GF flour which doesn't have xanthan gum in the mix. I'm not sure how well the recipe will adapt to the measure for measure flour but in theory it should work if you don't add any extra xanthan gum. I think that's the main difference between the plain all purpose GF flour and the GF measure for measure flour. Some tips if you make it-- the wetter the dough the lighter texture the crust will be. Do NOT try to add extra flour to make it kneadable. The GF dough will be more like a thick pancake batter or wet spackle. Dip you hands in oil or warm water to gently spread the dough out to the size you want. Make it on parchment paper on top of a pan-- the dough is very sticky but parchment releases easy. Parchment also helps prevent cross contamination from your pans which may hold gluten traces in the crevices. Hope you try it next time you have pizza night with your family!
Where is Block's Market located? I live close to, and often visit Fremont, where this and another Amish store is but I'm a transplant to this area and am not very familiar with things.
@kgs2127 - If you can Google it, you get directions straight to it. I went last summer & had a blast! So many good deals & the employees are awesome. It's right by the Detroit Airport, but really easy to get to. I live in southeast Indiana, but l plan on at least a trip or 2 this summer. I found out about it on this channel & after Rachael did the video about it - I had to go & I'm so glad I did. God bless you & yours & enjoy Blocks!!
I so agree with you on buying locally cheaper than with Azure. Not only do you have to be there for the drop, you have to help unload the truck, AND you have a percentage of shipping to pay. Some drops are a long distance, so that robs you of time, and also gas cost. I am also able to buy Amish and Mennonite locally, and LOVE it!!
I love this! I discovered that there are 2 Amish stores about 60 miles from me in opposite directions. My daughter and I want to go but haven't gotten there yet.
I love that store my daughter likes in twin lake very close , so when I visit her we go & shop ! I just made banana bread with the king Arthur flour turned out perfect just use favorite recipe. 😊Happy Baking !
I go to one twice a year. its two hours away but worth it. Cost me a lot when we go but with what I bring home so much more than I could get at store. God's blessing to you and yours
It’s nice that your Amish store has high quality, non GMO items. I have one near me but they just buy large quantities of regular (no better than fortified, processed store quality) items and re-package for resale. Not every Amish store sells locally grown foods. I’ve even seen ours repackaging eggs that came from Sam’s into cartons to re-sell as ‘farm fresh’ eggs! Buyer, still beware. I love shopping from Azure, but would buy more locally if I could find the quality. I live in NW Arkansas (aka: Walmart country).
Baking gluten free is quite a bit easier than it used to be. I’ve heard King Arthur is great, but haven’t tried it yet. I’ve been Gf for a long time, almost 20 years now, and my daughter is too. As long as all your additional ingredients are Gf, you’ll do great! I just made my grandma’s mayonnaise cake recipe Gf for the first time and even my mom couldn’t tell the difference. Also, Bob’s Red Mill egg replacer works 100% in baking. You can make an entire recipe of cookies with them and everyone will love them. 😊
Hi Rachel. You are such a a wonderful person. I am happy you are taking care of other's with health problems. Gluten is a way to keep family healthy. I am thinking of a change myself. I have been on a liquid diet bc, I can't keep food down so to gastrointestinal issues. My food is not digesting properly. So I am drinking chicken broth to help me. Feeling a bit better. But not completely yet. God Bless you Rachel. Take care. HUGS 🤗. Mari'a. 🤗🤗👍👍👍😎😎😎💙❤️🌸🌺🌼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💙💙💜💜💜💜
Hi! I am celiac as well and when I make cheese cake I use gluten free graham cracker crumbs (bought at the grocery store or on Amazon-brand is Kinnikinnick) . You would never know the difference!
It definitely makes sense to shop locally for items if you can. Azure is good for those who don’t have access to it. We’re vacationing in MI and I’ll def be stopping somewhere and stocking up as we don’t have any near us.
Ha! I knew that store looked familiar! My dad lives in Hilton and I like to go over to that Amish store when I visit. It’s been a while. We are just north of Lansing and don’t know of any Amish stores near us. Wish there were.
We are a fully gluten free family and I use King Arthur you purchased and can use it equal amounts to any recipe. One cup King Arthur to 1 cup regular flour
Thank you !!!! for the list!!! I'm between Grand Rapids and Muskegon and visited this store for the first time last years. The hard part about finding great stores like this is the fact that they don't really advertise well (imagine that lol). Snover is on my bucket list but I can't quite talk the guy into making a rather long side trip...as well as Freddie's in Atlanta.
I love our Amish store! It's about 45 minutes from my house, so I wait to go when I really need something. They have one store that really has a LOT of spices, but there is also a discount Amish store that has weekly specials that I watch to see if there is anything I really want to get. Sometimes they have great deals on fruit and produce. Those dark chocolate covered blueberries sound delicious. My husband loves the sweet section as well lol.
I totally agree with you on Azure Standard. I can get very similar products at my Amish or Mennonite store, discount food store, and other local stores, so much cheaper!
Rachel have you thought to make your own butter. My daughter n law got me into it. It's so easy, just process heavy cream in the kitchen aid, make sure to cover w a towel. Once it's butter just put in ice water and squeeze out all the butter milk. Thats pretty much it. Freezes great.
Totally agree with you in regards to your Azure Standards comment. For me as well, it's just not as cost effective as buying and sourcing locally. I have celiac (hyper sensitive) and the only flour I buy is King Arthur's flour. In taste you literally cannot tell a difference. However, not everything always comes out perfectly, for whatever reason, like regular flour. I think it probably has to do with the stripping and adding of the grain? You have to play around with it in baking. But as far as cross-contamination, I've never experienced it with King Arthur.
Hey Rachel, FYI for baking with your grandson you can use ground flax with water to replace eggs, you'll have to look up the amount because don't want to mislead you with the wrong ration of flax:water but it's got to be out there in Google land! Also, with some celiac people, cross contamination such as cooking in a toaster that has wheat bread toasted, or oil for frying that has had gluten coating fried in it can be enough to set off a flare...I'm sure you know all about your daughter in laws sensitivities just wanted you to know that maybe as she ages, she may find any contamination in a kitchen that cooks with gluten more of an issue 😉.
Hi!! King Arthur has an amazing online library of recipes for Gluten Free. I myself am Gluten Free for over 10 years. If you have any baking questions, feel free to ask. That KA gluten free flour, is the exact 1 I used the make the Amish Friendship Bread you taught us. Happy Baking ❤
For Celiac, tons of rice dishes and corn tortillas (just basically corn + some kind of fat) are great options. Oats can be as well. Buckwheat, such as used in Japanese soba noodles is gluten free (but not all soba noodles are gluten free, so watch out!) The rub is that, especially for more sensitive folks, even processing in the same facility with gluten can cause issues.
I am like you, I got the catalog and have even done my shopping at the Amish and when I come home, I will sit down at the computer and make up an exact order of what I purchased and it will be anywhere from $80-$200 more at Azure so I don't order from them either...PLUS if there is ever an item that I do need, they will order it for me....I also order all my garden seeds from them at Morgan County Seeds. I only have goats for milk but for some of my cheeses I get my raw milk from a local Amish famer too and then my rye, wheat and corn I get from them to make fodder for all my farm animals.
I consider myself blessed to live in an area where these types of goods are available at a Mennonite store. By the time I add the 8.5% shipping because of my location on an Azure order, it's way more expensive. For example, I purchased fifty pounds of organic rolled oats for $51 locally. From azure it's $58. You can say, "It's only $7." But if it's $7 more for oats, $7 more for wheat, and so on, you can spend a lot more. I use Azure sparingly when I can coop an order with my daughter. I can recommend the organic cosmic crisp apples from Azure. They are so tasty! Also, Azure brand coconut milk is excellent.
I wish we had an Amish store anywhere within a days drive. Don't have Aldi either. I have the same problem with Azure, the drop is about 40 miles away and during my work time.
I’m going to have to check out the egg replacer. For some things we use flax meal but we believe my daughter has an egg allergy. And so we are working to keep that out of her food.
Hey Rachel, I have Celiac also and shop at local Amish market. I'm in TN and they make a gluten free mix themselves that's really good and cheaper than the name brands. I'd say it's somewhat similar to a Bob's Red Mill. You might check to see if they do that at the one you shop at also. I'd also recommend the channel Let Them Eat Gluten Free for baking sweets. Her cinnamon rolls are out of this world delicious. 😊
I work with an amish family, and please keep in mind that they don't believe in pictures of themselves. I absolutely adore the family I work with as they are very honest and caring people and keep prices much lower than what you have paid.
Azure Standard is fairly expensive but when I use it I have access to organic and high quality items I have trouble finding elsewhere. I have actually had poor luck with their fresh fruit, getting it in poor condition but for dry goods I like their selection rather than run all over Los Angeles hunting.
A lot of these stores have stuff shipped in at bulk. They then repackage it. Most of the stuff sits there a long time until it is sold. So it may not be fresh as we'd like. Watch your receipts too...
I was interested in Azure too. I couldn’t justify all the fees plus having to unload the truck. If I’m paying a delivery fee that should include unloading in my opinion. Plus I was not crazy about driving to Detroit to pick it up. I think we have one closer now but still the fees.
If you videoed your gluten free baking that would be great. I have coeliacs and experimenting with new recipes is my fave. In Australia we cant eat oats as its off limits for Coeliacs sadly. I am trying to learn all the intricacies with gf baking. Main meals are a breeze. Its the sweet treats i find harder to nail.
I don't mean to be mean towards a company but I can get organic European style butter for literally half the price of Azure at my local regular grocery and Kerrygold organic at Costco for cheaper than Azure as well. I guess I don't see the cost savings that others do.
Kerrygold is not good butter…1. It isn’t organic. 2. It has something in it that isn’t good and the remnants stay in a person for years. It is grass fed but that is the only good thing about it. Truly is far better. Yes you can find organic cheaper closer to home on some things but not everything. You have to be a wise shopper, and check prices.
I just thought that most of azure standard was organic. Which is not always the case at an Amish store. They both seem to serve their purpose and at least go to support better economies than the Walmarts and the Amazons of the world.
This Amish store does not make all there stuff . N is quite spendy . But it’s a great store with great people that work here and good quality stuff . I shop here a lot maybe one day I’ll meet these two wonderful peeps there . I always. Miss them lol .
Azure is very much a product by product type of company. I get shelf stable organic soy milk by the case for half the price of my local grocery store. So I would say if you’re interested look but just like Costco, not everything is a good deal.
The amish store by me does their own azure standard orders and that's what they sell in their stores. So they get the benefits of being an azure drop location and then they make a profit off of the sales in store. So it isn't very economical for me.
I wish we had an Amish store. I was looking at Azures sales today but I can't afford to buy in bulk from them and I would have to travel over a half hour to pick up an order into the next state.
I am jealous of your Amish store We have one 30 minutes away from us but their prices are crazy high. Two lbs of butter is $71 dollars. Nope I will eat the store butter.
Azure for me is not close and we also don’t have an amish store in Oklahoma anywhere that I know of. I wish we did.. I’ve used gluten free flour 1 for 1 and it made the batter on the coffee cake very dry. I ended up adding liquid. A little milk. The oil and melted butter Usually don’t need liquid but this came out good but dryer.
Personally I think buying local just to keep your own economy going is the best bet. Even if it does cost a bit more. 🤷♀️
We need to support small business and local farmers the best we can.

Ten minutes? Nice! We are about an hour from ours.

Love Love Whispering Pines in Fremont thanks to you ♥️♥️
Patricia
I wish we had Amish stores here in the U.K.! Their products are amazing. 😊
Oh I so wish, too. The products look wonderful.
Also supporting your local community.
Thank you for that information about azure compared to Amish stores. That makes me feel a lot better about not worrying about trying it. We have access to lots of Amish and bulk country stores here. We live near amish communities in WI so we have a few stores and greenhouses. Love the spices and candy section.
We love visiting our Amish community stores! Definitely more economical than the online stores. Plus you support our Amish friends! 😊
You're blessed to have Amish stores in your area. We have to drive 2 hours away, with gas prices the way they are I can go too often.
I love seeing new videos from you yay!!!! Especially Amish grocery stores!!

We also get the Amish rolled butter from our local farm stand where we buy our meat! It’s SO much better than store bought!
Can't wait until you go to Block's veggie market. Amazing for bulk veggie purchases.❤❤❤
Where is Block's Market located? I live close to, and often visit Fremont, where this and another Amish store is but I'm a transplant to this area and am not very familiar with things.

I use the coleslaw mix ,too. Love it.
The best!
Fun stuff! I think I need to road trip to an Amish community. You're so blessed to have that.
Love the music at the end.

I go to one twice a year. its two hours away but worth it. Cost me a lot when we go but with what I bring home so much more than I could get at store. God's blessing to you and yours
I started following you after watching an Amish grocery haul many moons ago! I don’t think AS prices are the greatest.
This Amish store is a great place. I always get carried away when I visit there. We have a summer home not too far away from here!
Same here. Some of our Amish store products are local...honey, maple syrup but a lot is repackaged processed food.😢
Baking gluten free is quite a bit easier than it used to be. I’ve heard King Arthur is great, but haven’t tried it yet. I’ve been Gf for a long time, almost 20 years now, and my daughter is too. Also, Bob’s Red Mill egg replacer works 100% in baking. You can make an entire recipe of cookies with them and everyone will love them. 😊
King Arthur's gf bisquick mix is great for lots of things
That is my absolute favorite slaw mix as well. I love our local Mennonite markets
I’m sorry you are dealing with those issues, Maria. I hope you get well soon!
Thank you so much Rachel! You and Todd are an inspiration!
Hi! I am celiac as well and when I make cheese cake I use gluten free graham cracker crumbs (bought at the grocery store or on Amazon-brand is Kinnikinnick) . You would never know the difference!
Very easy to make your own gf graham crackers
I was just there this last Wednesday ugh I missed you AGAIN LOL
What a haul.
Sadly not many such Amish communities here in the UK - nearest is Devon , at least a few hundred milles away!!
It definitely makes sense to shop locally for items if you can. Azure is good for those who don’t have access to it. We’re vacationing in MI and I’ll def be stopping somewhere and stocking up as we don’t have any near us.
We have a Amish store love buying there too for there spices. Love from Virginia
Ha! I knew that store looked familiar! My dad lives in Hilton and I like to go over to that Amish store when I visit. It’s been a while. We are just north of Lansing and don’t know of any Amish stores near us. Wish there were.

I've tried it
Absolutely love watching your videos.
Technically, in Muskegon county and Holton Township. Stop in across the street at Wesco sometimes and say hi to my wife and I!
We do often

I love to shop at a couple Amish stores here in Missouri.
The recipe on the back of the Hersheys cocoa turns out wonderful with gluten free flour.

We’re so lucky. We have Amish stores about 30 minutes away from us. Also, a Mennonite store 15 minutes away. Their products are amazing.
HEY Rachel 👋 Love ur Amish hauls!!
That coconut oil is Cheeeeaap!! We pay more than that, like $18 for a pint sized jar.
Super good score!
I'm paying $7-8 for a pint-sized jar. Yikes!
There are many qualities of coconut oil. I,m not so sure about the one she got.
I feel the same. I also have checked into asure standard a couple of times and i can purchase the same items cheaper at my local amish bulk store.
I consider myself blessed to live in an area where these types of goods are available at a Mennonite store. By the time I add the 8.5% shipping because of my location on an Azure order, it's way more expensive. For example, I purchased fifty pounds of organic rolled oats for $51 locally. Hi Rachel, there is also one in between Fremont and Newaygo on M82. Not a deli located in that one but still one of my favorites.
Yes we've been there
Amish rolled butter is my favorite!
I wish we had an Amish or Mennonite store in our area!! I am always a bit envious of the lovely produce and prices I hear about the Midwest.
I need to get back to whispering pines! It's about 30 min away.
Im in northern Michigan and have access to two amish stores. My favorite one is in lake city/falmouth. The one is in east jordan.
Rain Country does a lot of gluten free cooking, you may want to check it out.
I wish we had an Amish store anywhere within a days drive. Don't have Aldi either. I have the same problem with Azure, the drop is about 40 miles away and during my work time.
We have an amish store in Bear Lake/Manistee area, great for bulk spices.
Amish Swiss cheese is sooo good!
If you guys are ever in SW Michigan, there's a nice Amish store in Bloomingdale.
We have that same butter in my local grocery store in south Georgia.
I’m going to have to check out the egg replacer. For some things we use flax meal but we believe my daughter has an egg allergy. And so we are working to keep that out of her food.
I also use my amish store as an azure standard
Liven in Indiana ya buddy 3 Amish shops near me Love Llove Love shopping there❤❤
Hey Rachel, I have Celiac also and shop at local Amish market. 😊
Ok thanks for letting me know
Shipshiwanna Indiana has a great Amish bulk and discount grocery. E &S sales
I love going there!
I work with an amish family, and please keep in mind that they don't believe in pictures of themselves. I absolutely adore the family I work with as they are very honest and caring people and keep prices much lower than what you have paid.
that's why we're respectful and never film in areas where they are working.
Azure Standard is fairly expensive but when I use it I have access to organic and high quality items I have trouble finding elsewhere. I have actually had poor luck with their fresh fruit, getting it in poor condition but for dry goods I like their selection rather than run all over Los Angeles hunting.
I shop the same way at the amish store Country Corners Market in Mount Pleasant,MI
I love my Amish store
I live in a small Amish/Mennonite community and choose to shop the same way!
Would love an Amish store in my area! But since I don’t, Azure is better for many of my pantry stables as dairy free.
I make oat flour with my oats in my vitamin.
I was 12 when I went to an Amish restaurant for breakfast. The pancakes were as big as hubcaps.
That one to one GF makes yummy pancakes.
I agree Sis
I wish we had an Amish store within a few hundred miles.
I wish I lived in an area with an Amish community store!
Rachel - you can make that powdered egg by freeze drying your own eggs
It’s powdered egg replacement, I think, for her grandson who is allergic to eggs.
It’s an egg replacer for someone with egg allergy. I usually use Ener-G but I’m trying Bobs next.
@@kelliwebb2870what's in it?
Homemade ranch dressing!?! I need to know how to make it 😊
Do you ever cook oat groats for breakfast or a savory side dish?
I am jealous of your Amish store
We have one 30 minutes away from us but their prices are crazy high. Two lbs of butter is $71 dollars. Nope I will eat the store butter.
Will you share your ranch dressing recipe? I’ve tried making it from scratch and it’s just not there yet.
Our Amish stores here are expensive and sell a lot of out of date food so I don’t even shop at them anymore
I have used just plain rice flour as the flour substitute in corn bread. We couldn’t even tell the difference in taste or texture.
Azure for me is not close and we also don’t have an amish store in Oklahoma anywhere that I know of. I wish we did..
I’ve used gluten free flour
1 for 1 and it made the batter on the coffee cake very dry. I ended up adding liquid. A little milk. The oil and melted butter
Usually don’t need liquid but this came out good but dryer.
Amish Cheese House in Chouteau. Amish Country Store in Muskogee.
@@maryannshupe6436 ok. That’s a ways from me. We’re in the pan handle.
Someday when we are that way I’d like to go.. thank you ,
