Great video, I cycled to Killamarsh today, I really should have read the leaflet, I went on a right tour. Anyway, I will continue my journey next week.
Whilst on my way back from my Spinkhill/Killamarsh explore this morning I called in at Kiveton and found Norwood Tunnel. I then followed the towpath back to Turnerwood to complete another section of the canal, getting some great photos on the way. Thanks for inspiring me on to bigger and better explores.
Enjoyed that - thanks. I am part of Killamarsh Kestrels runnng club and a couple of our runs go through the Nor Wood locks into Kiveton / Wales. We also run the other way back to the TPT following the canal in the 1st part of the video so all that was very interesting.
Yeah we do. In summer we go up to elmwood farm via playdales and back through Beighton and drop on the black path back to Killamarsh station. In winter we have 2 runs that go into Beighton village.
The second property just before the Norwood Tunnel entrance is called The Boatman. It was originally a pub. The house and grounds including several large ponds and the second building at the back, is currently on the market for just under £2 million!
The loading dock at 11:09 is from Norwood Colliery, the industrial estate next to the Rother Valley Country Park entrance was Norwood Colliery, the shaft was behind the Angel Pub.
@@WobblyRunner You're welcome, apparently there is a buried railway tunnel that runs parallel to the south of the canal tunnel, this 300 yard tunnel was part of the line that linked Norwood and West Kiveton collieries, the eastern portal is buried just next to the M1 motorway, you can see the course of parts of this line on google earth and you walked on part of it in this video.
That was very interesting indeed, I watched both parts one after the other just to keep the continuity. I think I may well start at Kiveton Waters by the Eastern Portal of the tunnel and work my way back towards Worksop to make that link for my Chesterfield Canal fund raiser. There are some great walks around your area especially if you like canals and railways, and your videos show them off tremendously well, nice one.

Late to the show again...the missing bit between bridge Street and lockHill was cats arch top of nethemoor Lane canal ran over it was still there late 70s housing on the site now .
I wondered if they could use the killamarsh branch where the cutting is full of water, and the old tunnel that runs under the M1 to recourse the canal, it's not far from the existing route and it'd mean there is a bit of a tunnel still... Obviously they have other ideas but it would have been nice to see the old railway tunnel repurposed rather than buried away. Perhaps it's a bit too out of the way of the Norwood section for it to be of benefit.
@@WobblyRunner definitely lots to go at. I was told that the section to Renishaw won't be that hard to sort but they're getting contractors in to do that section anyway. Hopefully they'll have plenty of funding and not have too many set backs to get in all sorted asap 🤞
In a conversation with a council planning officer some time ago, he remarked, " Id love to know which idiot gave permission for this to happen, I had to agree.
@@WobblyRunner There is a video of a tunnel inspection from 2016. It gets checked every ten years supposedly; and there are plans to reopen it. It’ll be similar to Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal when it’s finished.

👍 it does get a bit complicated on the bit towards Killamarsh. Especially over the tunnel. I don't think I've ever gone the same way twice.
very interesting. I wonder if the Norwood tunnel will have access one day.

Wow you've certainly done some mileage there.
Great to hear you enjoyed doing them. Shame was can't see more of the old Norwood Tunnel.
Thanks for that very interesting
Thanks Michael 👍🙂

Ah yes I see your club runs quite often in an evening :) Do you have a route up towards Beighton?
Some great routes around here, we're quite lucky.

I just need to find another £1.99m 😉

Cheers DJT.
I might go back for closer look.

Kiveton to worksop is lovely.
I was out filming that section last Thursday.
Nice and rural feel with plenty of scenery.
@@WobblyRunner I'll definitely get on it!!
4.35 ...in 70s before it was filled in used to play in cars dumped down in dry River bed..
I had to rewatch that back to see where you meant😁

I assume you're on about building on the canal at Killamarsh? Very short sighted of them back them wasn't it. Similar seen in the railways.

Shame about the tunnel. 😢
It is a shame.
I would love to see inside.
