Mauer was robbed of a gold glove at 1B. Everyone will remember him for his legendary career as a catcher but his defense at first was impeccable.
Well being literally one of the greatest catchers of all time will do that to you.
Amen
I thought he did but it might when he was a catcher
@@nickender7094agree
But there is stiff competition for career long 1st basemen
I was privileged to be a Twins fan for the entirety of his career and owe much of my love of the game to watching him play. Hats off to you, Joe.
I would always pick the twins as a kid while playing mlb on my ps2. This dude was legendary
Giants fan here. Mauer and Ichiro were my favourite non-SFG players to watch. Simply amazing.
I remember watching that game against the Yankees, that dive at home plate. Tie ballgame, bottom of the 9th, speedy runner in Gardner. A literal game-saving heads-up play.
And my favorite part , Minnesota kid playing for Minnesota his whole career. ❤❤
Love ya Joe! ❤❤❤
Great player but most importantly, just a gem of a person. It was so fun watching that pure swing and intelligent ball player. A 10 out of 10.
Joe was also the #1 ranked HS football player his senior year coming out of Cretin in MN. Polished 6'5 pocket passer recruited by Florida St and Bobby Bowden.
Really good basketball player growing up too. Guy was just an incredible athlete.
Gatorade athlete of year I think
And an incredible bowler too, I hear some 300 games
When I was a boy, I noticed that a lot of Vikings had excelled at other sports, and there was Bud Grant and Dave Winfield, and Kevin McHale had played ice hockey, and Brad Johnson, Ahmad Rashad and Randy Moss (and KOC?) could hoop. It's like how Prince could play any musical instrument.
Struck out only once in high school at Cretin Durham Hall.
@@ACMEpowersports and the girl has probably regretted it ever since!
Joe Mauer is an all time great catcher he defense and his hitting were truly unique that’s why he’s in the Hall of Fame
I love the “you see what Joe Mayer just did”? One of my favorite players.
He was a beast
Facts
incredible baseball player, even better person.
Amazing athlete for the catcher position. Arguably had the talent to play in the NFL as a QB as well.
Joe Mauer and Yadier Molina, the last of their kind.
Cool to see all that Mauer at 1B. That tag on Gardner was amazing. Why don't I remember that?
my all time favorite play of his, i remember watching that live on tv. goosebumps
Grew up sporting my white Sox (yes I’m miserable) but nothing but respect and appreciation for getting to watch my hated rival carve out a legacy. Hope you’re enjoying retirement Joe!
Lee behind the plate has shown some good stuff : we white sox fans , we enjoy little things.
By the way, Mauer was one of a kind , really impressive in every play he Made .
Twins fan here , Without the white Sox being stout like usual, the AL central isn’t that much fun
@@TheDustoff9 see I like the sox, but first I love baseball : i watched so many games of the rival twins and we in some way share the same destiny : top prospects with the injury bug .
Sometimes i think about a fully Byron Buxton career without injuries and ask myself what if .
One of the greatest all-around players to ever play the game! Congrats Joe Mauer on your much deserved entrance into the Hall of Fame!!!
All those batting titles. Best catcher ever!
I have no idea, but i like to think Joe spends most days fishing with Justin Mornue and Johan Santana. Those were some fun years.
At 0:38 -- Mauer fakes throwing to first & comes back to tag Gardner out at home. After the game Gardner was quoted as saying, "He's faster than I thought!" Gardner had no idea that Mauer was a superb, multi-sport athlete -- until after that play.
Johan, Mauer, Morneau, and Frankie was the greatest and most disappojnting year in Twins history.
If Frankie hadn't gotten hurt, decent chance they get the 1 seed in the AL and play Detroit instead of Oakland in the ALDS.
Back when the rules allowed catchers to be athletes to defend the plate, Mauer was so smart maneuvering the plate
Well played, Joe Mauer. Your entire career.
What a great player , Best catcher ever
Honestly robbed of a first base gold glove in addition to those gold gloves at catcher.
As White Sox fan can say I wasn't upset when he left the Twins. But as a baseball fan watching him play was worth the price of admission, total around talent. And from what I've heard just a all around good dude.
3:40 i still have yet to see a 1st baseman make an actual diving catch like this one since Mauer did it.
Honestly, incredible editing. I would have thought it was all one game if the teams and positions didn't change. Crossfading audio was on point.
Sending love from a Tigers fan.
Mauer is one of the best catchers to play the games. I think his MLB career was so long was due to the fact that he was able to switch over and play first base. I think at the time he got a lot of first base starts the league was loaded at first base.
Agree with you I'm a Packer fan and a Minnesota Twins Fan since Green Bay don't have a Baseball fan I had to go with Minnesota Twins because of an old friend
@@travisbaker2001 Tell you the truth I am a Cubs fan
Respect to the fan at 4:44 to back up and give room to Joe to make the play.
That behind the back off the bricks will be my favorite play of all time 😂
One of the best behind the plate
So good
The catch at 1:36 was unreal
Emotional when you grow up watching your hometown player's any player for that matter for many years.
That catch
I saw the title and thought, "he made more than one??"
First guy was safe.
Players who stay with their first team and retire when it's time gain the respect of others more so than guys who go trophy hunting at the end of their careers.
Joe is from Minnesota
Let's be honest, he would've got homesick if he lived somewhere else.
Hey that’s me at 5:53 I’m famous again
That catch at 2:17
He legitimately could have played any position on the field.
He might be the best athlete of all time, look him up
He went out as a catcher
He did it all honestly, too, unlike Buster PED Posey.
Mauer means 'wall' in German. The name fits.
I have to say that first play with Catalanotto at home, he was safe. He swiped the base at the last possible second. If you pause at 0:34 you can see it.
Or, optionally, pause one second earlier and you can see him tag his left hand. Also clear when you watch at .25 speed.
@@stevearrowood You can see Mauer missed the runner's left hand when you compare the two replays at the point the runner's left hand starts rising: in the first replay his left hand starts rising well before Mauer's glove reaches it, even though the angle of the second replay makes it seem like Mauer's glove causes the runner's hand to start rising.
Twins GOAT
Twins FOX?
Remember when umpires used to get shit right
Dude was safe in first clip
Can’t say I care too much for the twins organization, but #7 was the Man
Worst hall of famers ever
So three batting titles as a catcher is makes him worse?
@@MHrswd you mean he happen to catch 80 games the year he won the batting tittle. Since when is a single hitter that guy ?he never won a playoff game lmaooo how good of a catcher was he ?
@@joepadovano3745 What does playing your position have to do with hitting?
