    One of the coolest things that Cortana used to do on Windows Phone was something like "Cortana, remind me to buy toilet paper when I go to Walmart....." and it would say "OK, I'll remind you." I showed my mom this and she said, "it's NOT going to do that." Then I took her into Walmart. The second we walked in the door of Walmart, it said, "Buy Toilet Paper" on the screen. She was amazed.
    That was the kind of AI that is actually useful..... I don't think any other app has done something that useful since.

My keyboard fucks up my words when I know my finger hit the correct letter and Siri fucks up my words when I'm enunciating clearly and speaking loudly. Apple intelligence just makes our phones dumber. All it does at this point is scan our phones for the MIC. Why is apple not being hit with class action lawsuits?

    • @casualintrovert207
      @casualintrovert207 10 months ago +2

      There's absolutely an excuse lol. They held off for so long for one simple reason: security. They didn't want to be like google and collect every single ounce of data on your phone, which is what google does with android. It's literally a device DESIGNED around spyware. Apple has only started doing what google is doing in terms of AI because they've found ways to allow it while still maintaining user data privacy.

      Seriously. If I’m not chatting with Siri at least once a day a year from now, heads need to roll at Apple (no, setting a timer or pausing a podcast won’t count, Tim Apple). Siri has been a joke long before AI, and now we are years in and it’s still virtually unchanged. Disgraceful.

      @softwarephil1709 8 months ago +1

      @ricardito777 How much have you used recent versions of AI? I literally use it multiple of times every day to generate code for programs I'm writing. My son has used it to diagnose a medical problem he was having involving a complicated set of symptoms. AI asked questions about symptoms to narrow the possibilities. Once a high probability diagnosis was found, AI recommended treatments that solved the problem. At one point when my son said he took a recommended medication, AI said "Let me know in 30 minutes how you feel." My family successfully used AI to analyze a real-time video of a room and get suggestions for the best furniture placements.

      What’s worse is the out-the-box features were pretty poor too. The camera control button is fiddly to use, unresponsive, slower than using the screen, and doesn’t work with a lot of cases. The camera is grainy especially when between zoom levels, the iOS and apps crash at least a couple times a week (my main argument for why I like iPhones is because they never crash!!) and all the other updates are so microscopic, they needed to compare performance to the iPhone 12 (which I upgraded from, and still can’t feel huge differences from)
      It’s a better phone than my 12 but it should be sooooo much better than it is

    Man I recently used Siri and Apple Intelligence to do something extremely easy: Change the title of one of my reminders. The reminder was "Go to the Gym" and I wanted to change it to "Do groceries" as a simple test.
    This is how it went:
    - Hey Siri, I want you to change one of my reminders task
    - Sure which one?
    - Take the reminder "Go to the gym" and change it to "Do Groceries"
    *Siri just creates a new reminder instead*
    Then I try the following:
    - Hey Siri, please find the reminder "Go to the gym"
    *Siri can't find it...*
    Then I ask:
    - Hey Siri, give me a list of all my reminders
    - Sorry, but you don't seem to have reminders
    At this point I gave up, what a joke.

      @LashanR Teams are so future rich, that you can't even pin more than 15 contacts. I won't count how many times it also crashed when there was issue with camera or while it tried to open literally a book in word. This should be a polished product, i feel like im still working with some POC or MVP.
      When my previous company laptop was reaching end of leasing term, Teams decided just to shut down 2-3 times per week, so i could sit for few hours working, until i got the email "somebody is trying to reach you on Teams" or tried to write to smb. Disk was pristine, no errors in teams or windows logs, reinstallation did not help. I ended up writing script launching Teams every 5 min, because i run out of time for that bs.

    I tried to use Siri 2 times today. First I asked it for the March Madness scores today and it told me I have no calendar events called March Madness. Second I asked it how many days are left in March, and it Googled how many days until March next year.
    Maybe we just had nothing to compare it to back when Siri first launched, but it feels like it has been getting worse not better at even the simplest tasks. I'm sure Apple will be fine, but at this point I've lost all faith in their ability to deliver on an AI assistant.

      I have always had really high hopes for a digital assistant. Technically there should be so much cool stuff it can do for you. But Apple has been unable to make it really useful. In the teasers about the new AI siri features I saw glimpses of what I have been hoping to see for a long time. But even that Apple wasn't able to bring to life. I am on an iPhone 11 pro and I don't plan to upgrade until they have a phone that can at least do what they showed the AI Siri doing last year.

    • @nzshock
      @nzshock 10 months ago +2

    • @ConnerArdman
      @ConnerArdman 10 months ago +33

      @danylomelymuka It seems to just be very picky on the exact wording from a bit more testing. For example, "update me on March Madness from today" doesn't work for me, but "update me on March Madness scores from today" does. While the second is obviously a more clear instruction, an "intelligent" assistant should be able to easily understand the first as well. I tried asking the same thing in 10 or so different ways, and about half of them gave me the scores. The other half either Googled it, checked my calendar, or read my recent notifications to me.

      They have the Japan problem. In 1995, they had 2005 technology in their flip phones and consumer electronics. They still have that 2005 technology in 2025. In comparison, Apple bought out the first-mover voice assistant Siri and never pushed the tech beyond that. Apple is great at integrating technologies into a consumer package, but there hasn't been a clear winner to buy from for the AI bubble currently inflating. They need an upgrade, but the cutting edge LLMs have tons of bugs and social baggage. Whether that indicates that Apple is stagnating in innovation or knows an unprofitable industry when they see it is up for debate.

    I left an Apple retail job last month, staff would be told they are expected to demo one Apple intelligence feature during every interaction. This has been going on since January. They told us this every single day at the start of every person’s shift. Managers spend their days “coaching” staff with the goal of interacting with each staff person once a day or a few times a week.
    And you could expect feedback and possible disciplinary action if you were not demoing Apple intelligence every single interaction.
    From the outside, it seems wild how aggressively they were driving retail to demonstrate half baked functionality that ultimately got themselves in trouble

    11:40 it’s not a disconnect, Marques-it’s false advertising. The way "Apple Intelligence" has been covered is one of the most shameful moments for tech RUclipsrs. This should’ve been called out from the start. When I watched your first video on it, which was a couple of days or weeks later, I couldn’t believe this wasn’t immediately treated as a major false advertising scandal. The entire marketing campaign had me believing that the whole thing was *launched* with the phone already. It’s so shameless that I’m honestly amazed Apple went down this path and stuck with it.

    • @SkylarLee643
      @SkylarLee643 10 months ago +35

      Apple was extremely careful in saying the phone was built for Apple Intelligence as opposed to it has it (which the 15 models and 16 models can both get a beta test version right now). Their press releases included that the phones wouldn’t launch with it. It was the focus of criticism from multiple tech RUclipsrs, including Marques.

      @bigmacreejr 10 months ago

      @SkylarLee643 yes, and the few features available are still in early beta, so no features are available yet, i can see a few being available out of beta by end of year, but not most, since most still arent even in beta, and the few features in that beta barely work, and are clearly still early builds. you cant say something releases next year, then half way through that promised year only 1/3rd of the features are there and only available through developer builds you have to jump through hoops and warnings to get access to.

    I have Samsung s25u. Yesterday I was trying to order glasses online and it was asking me for my prescription. I had a hand written prescription from my pervious eye doctor. The hand writing was very sloppy, and the prescription terms that the website was wanting were different then what was on my prescription. I wasn't sure how to translate that. I scanned the hand written note in the regular camera app and asked my phone's AI to translate the prescription. It was able to read the handwriting and translate everything to the correct terms in one step, and it was correct. I was amazed

      People aren’t excited because most of what they’ve forced onto people is 1) annoying 2) not actually useful or 3) not reliable. RUclips’s “ai” will “recommend you videos” like it’s literally always done. Or it will “summarize videos”, which is too unreliable to trust, or useless because people actually enjoy watching content.

    The real issue is that Apple misled customers by promoting AI as a key feature, making people believe it would be available soon. Many bought the new iPhone with that expectation. Even if AI isn’t the main selling point, it’s still a big bonus - if you buy the new phone, why not want it? The problem is Apple quietly pulled back the promise after selling enough devices, without any proper explanation. That’s a serious breach of trust.

      @Silent-Witness Apple suprisingly isn't one for subscription services. At most it's just Apple one which comes with Apple Music, Apple TV+, iCloud, and Apple Arcade which are all things where the only competition are other Subscription services. Even in the creative world where the Titans in the industry are Subscription based, Apple is easily the cheapest one to buy allowing LIFETIME access to any one of their creative apps (Logic Pro [$299], Final Cut Pro [$299], Mainstage [$30], Motion [$50], Compressor [$50]), or their entire suite with an Education discount (Which they don't do any verifications for qualifying) for as low as $199, and it's lifetime acssess with continuous updates, and even if you don't buy that especially in the music space Garage Band is actually a competent software unlike iMovie and could be used professionally. Outside of the Hardware, Apple prices their stuff pretty well.
