These have been my favorite minimalist shoe for long distance running, lifting, walking, and daily wear. I’ve bought 2 pairs. Wish there were more color ways.
I thought these shoes had a lot going for them. My only issue with this was that I could feel the outsole as it wasn’t completely flat on the surface overall. It was just weird and never got used to it. Good review as always!
Right? They're super interesting with their outsole construction...I feel like it's very hit or miss. You have those that LOVE this model and others who are like "eh, I'm not a fan of their feel at all". Thank you, Hunter!
After six months of wearing Vivobarefoot, my sciatica pelvic SI joint pain became severe. I was unable to stand for length of time or walk far. I tried my best to transition . So I bought the Lems shoe you mentioned, and I feel thousand times better. I highly recommend them. I found no issues whatsoever you stated in your video. The heel counter was fine. The roundness was not an issue at all.
Thanks for this. I’ve been through 3 pairs for walking and hiking and wouldn’t consider them a lifting shoe. The real issue for me has been how soft the black rubber is and how fast they wear out compared to other shoes. I now wear the Primal Pursuits (just got them this month) for my around-town shoes and some light hiking, and Lems has taken the tread durability feedback to heart and made them a lot tougher.
@@thatfitfriend great! The Trailheads were a bit more narrow, the newer Primal Pursuits bring back a more barefoot or Altra style toebox, but the tread is more (IMHO) geared for walking and hiking. There’s a foam mid but I wouldn’t say it is tuned for running IMHO.
Once again, a great breakdown. What other shoes would you suggest looking at in this price point for casual wear/daily use? In a pinch I would also use them for a light workout if I was on vacation. I am a teacher and my go to work outfits on a daily basis are basically golf clothes.
Ok Jake so lems primal 2 or Lux foot ware ?? Which you did a video on. Yes Flux is a tad more cushion from what you mentioned. But yet flexibility. I’m debating
From Lems “The main difference is that we added a more grounded base to the Primal Zen (opposed to the Primal 2’s more rounded heel) and 2mm of extra sole for added protection and durability.”
Meh, not the best transition shoes. Lems would be a better bet for sure. Have you looked for them on other sites outside of Lems? REI and Backcountry may have them!
More chonky and casual. Trail Glove 7 has a sportier feel and performance to them. I love my Trail Gloves, too. I've beat the heck out of them and they're still solid
Finally, Lems. I don't have the Primal 2, but I've got the Boulder boot and I love them. Also had the Trailhead for about 2 years before the heelcounter broke. *sad face*
Can You suggest a solution for me? I've worn these for 3 years and the left shoe has lost it's nice smooth rounded shape between my 2nd and 3rd toe - it looks dented. Is there maybe a stiffener type insert I may could glue to the inside or what? Any ideas? It's not affecting their use - it just looks bad. Thanks
I'm honestly not sure on that. TBH, 3 years is a really good wear time for them! May be worth re-upping on a new pair instead of trying a temp fix that may/may not work long-term. I feel like with the holidays coming Lems should have some sales soon, too!
No internal construction to keep the tongue secure. You know how some shoes have that thin material that keeps them in place on each side? That’s what gusset means!
I have a bunch that I'll keep in rotation for different training settings. My three most heavily used include the Vivobarefoot Primus Lite III (usually use most for strength/powerlifting work), Xero Shoes Zelen/HFS (use them for more hybrid training sessions), and Feelgrounds Highrise Knit (when I'm wanting one shoe for daily wear, then strength training that looks good)!
@@thatfitfriend do the lems feel like they have an undercut to the heel on them at all? for example, i have the altra solstice xt that feels like the heel is missing. wondering if the lems are the same?
@@zacharyswain7034 I don’t necessarily think so - I’m not sure if you would feel similar though due to the grounded sole and zero drop. I think they’d be fine, but would be curious for your interpretation!
@@thatfitfriend cool dude thx. i can let you know if i decide to get them if they feel the same as the altra. as a side note, i have the original altra and they feel great. no issue with the heel. but the altra xt feels like im unbalanced due to the heel part of the sole seeming to be 'undercut'

Did you make a harsh transition to barefoot shoes when you switched?
In re: Lems: Love to hear that!

Heck yeah! That’s great to know because the Pursuits are one of the next models on my list. Thank you for the feedback, Matt!

Great to know so I can keep on eye on those aspects! 💪
They advertise the 'wide toe box' but further in the description they say 'moderate toe splay' - what's up with that i wonder

Do you only want minimalist shoes or normal training shoes?
Also, do they need to be able to be dressed up?

I’d go Lems!

great review.
What are your thoughts on ON running shoes for transitions from brooks to Xero barefoot shoes.
Lems definitely seems closer then On shoes do.

@@thatfitfriend yes I’m watching there site for lems primal 2. Grey. 11. Sells out fast

I’ve heard good things about the Boulder! I might explore those in the fall 💪
I have the outlander boot. Most comfortable shoes/boots I’ve ever owned

Good idea Jake; they do have the new ZEN style i should investigate - and yes, wait for a sale!!!
Thanks my fit friend!

@@thatfitfriend It may be some while but I'll let you know - for now I just wear em and forgetaboutit :)
The rolling goes away with wear fyi. I just ordered a new pair after wearing all the tread away.
What does it mean that it's not gusseted?

I like them, but for certain contexts 😅
