    One thing I had trouble with in sparring is some persons from other gym with TKD/Point Karate background with good pressure shot different kicks from the same position. After I respect the side kick they would use side kick stance to fake into roundhouse kick or hook kick. Any tips to negate this or is it same as against any other type of pressure fighting (don't overreact and don't let your opponent do what they want)?

    • @NeutroniummAlchemist
      @NeutroniummAlchemist Год назад +4

      I'm the guy who does this. Best defense is to either scoot way out, or better yet, way in and jam the kick. You have to be quick though or you'll just take more damage. A good point fighter will chamber all three kicks exactly the same. Though once he catches on that you've figured out how to jam this, if he's really good he'll just step back and throw, so don't use it too often.

    • @cahallo5964
      @cahallo5964 Год назад +2

      Jam the kick, close the gap and sweep, it's the same way is countered in actual point fighting.
      You can go straight to sweeping if you are close range, don't bother jamming.
      Also, if he is using it to keep distance instead of regaining, just let him kick air.

    • @joshuabrant3487
      @joshuabrant3487 Год назад +1

      Applying alot of pressure with straight punches works. Like not two or three like five or six and blitz in like a point karate guy yourself. Think of it like you need to touch him with the first one before the kick comes out.

    • @snarbywrx
      @snarbywrx Год назад +1

      @@joshuabrant3487 Agreed. Once he counters and places his foot down, burst in with lots and lots of punches. They can't block all of them. Hand game ready.

      @Epik I've seen Bas Rutten connect with a spinning backfist to the head after missing a roundhouse and ending up with his back to the opponent just like with the side kick. The point is to regain a neutral position by anticipating a counter attack and keeping the opponent in check when he thinks your vulnerable
      Look up "Bas Rutten backhands Frank Shamrock" its on RUclips. Frank does the exact thing you just said. He goes for a tackle and gets punished for it

    Sometimes when I’m lucky and the timing is right, I actually punch the foot with anything’s that available: jab, hook, or cross. I tried using a forearm or elbow but it just jam the process and end up getting kabonged.
    And I hate getting kicked on the face with a powerful leg technique.
    Rule of thumbs is to shift out of center line. Unfortunately, it affects offense, timing, and balance.
    What it boils down to is a ton load of sparring. You’ve got to put your time in and listen to your corner. Find what works for your style and body.

  • @nbrace-tl8ku

    The sidekick is a high output low reward technique. Rarely is the opponent hurt by it. It just pushes your opponent back, too far for follow ups. And it requires a lot of effort which can tire you out in the later rounds.

    Excuse me... You're assuming the leg will stay stretched out. It's a big no no in Taekwondo and Karate. Leg must always be rechambered after throwing a kick.
    Also, covering one part of your body in anticipation of a side kick leaves other parts vulnerable.
    I'd take these tips with much caution... Very good to cover the topic though. Too often overlooked, strange enough for a sneaky attack.

    Everyone says side kicks don't work but it's the only kick I've never had caught and been dumped .
    Front kicks and round kicks I get caught like 30% of the time maybe.
    Side kick not one never straight to the ribs every time . Maybe it's how I through it because it's so long range . I bring my rear leg through like a rear leg front kick but drive it through so I'm switching stance to south paw . I'm 6ft 2 so that a massive distance covered in half a second.

      I call it butterfly kicking but I'm not sure if that's correct. Think it's round kick to round kick to qualify as a butterfly kick.
