Oh thank God, I thought you were just going to post the clip of Oppenheimer where he looks into the camera and says, "It's Oppen Theime" right before he detonates the nuke.
Yeah, well it's the part which is told from Oppenheimer's perspective and he didn't seem to have a particularly serious opinion of the generals. In the hearing he acts a lot more professional (different scenarios but still)
ye but there are goofy generals in all disaster films from independence day to mars attacks. but they still can portray real anger. damon isn't capable of getting mad or being aggressive. he's too soft for that. so he just spits like a baby. and the line isn't great either. again like something a child would write down. one of those character actors from any disaster picture would still be able to deliver it forcefully without going over the top with spittle and tears
he doesn't sound "goofy," he sounds desparate and because he's a character who is infused with gravitas (he's a general, doesn't show his emotions), when the scene is demanding, the scientist who doesn't understand the importance of what's happening, a reaction, he "let's it out," naturally, the way the character actually would that's "good acting," and not anything "goofy" if anything else, people are also confusing their reactions to the actor playing the character to just the character himself; the same way people confuse walter white's wife's actor for being disgusting, when the character (the wife) is completely justified (walt is continuously lying to his marriage partner)

this scene + camera movement is all about people speaking FOR Oppenheimer instead of him mounting his own defense for his projects. Says a lot about Nolan's brilliance that he uses Matt Damon's fame and bravado--just off center--to draw attention away from Oppenheimer's lack of moral conviction, on display right down the middle of the frame.
I like how this scenes portrays some doubts in Oppenheimer and places the focus on Oppenheimer himself. Even though it is Groves shouting the camera stays focused on Oppenheimer showing how it’s really all about him. A masterpiece truly.
As others have noted, the delivery makes sense in the context of the character. If anything is wrong, its not the acting but the writing. The rest of the movie has the whole "mid-century WWII gravitas", but Damon's line here sounds distinctly like something a millennial would say, and the resulting dissonance is comical.
Not even the biggest Nolan fan but I think this was just genuinely supposed to be a funny bit just cause of Damon's little "fuck!" off camera and Cillian's smirk afterwards
Money makes me do some weird stuff. I loved the creativity behind that scene but boy, the balls and confidence it takes to do that kind of scene in front of so many people is wild.
I remember seeing this line in the trailer in thinking it sounded horrible, luckily in the actual movie he says “fucking” which makes it a little better but still
I initially thought cillian was just portraying a kind of uncomfortablity with his and damon's character's conflicting styles in attempting to persuade the scientist. I just realized it seems like he's also showing Oppenheimer really hear what Damon's saying and have a moment of distraction feeling the weight of what's on his shoulders before he refocuses on persuading the other scientist
This scene gives me fucking chills, honestly there are so many scenes that give me the chills in this movie, but this one right there... it's something.
Bruh, what a delusional comment section. Everybody is having no problem at all, but just because it is a Nolan movie. Otherwise, everybody would mock at Matt Damon.
Yeah, this is a mixture of things happening, the military guy is a not that much charismatic man who is just pissed in the secene, that's why his talking is sloppy, like, that happens when u are angry, then Oppenheimer just reacts with a simple awkward smile in part because he is awkward and in part because he understands the position of the scientist and doesn't cares that much (Srry for my english i'm from Spain)
I really liked this movie, I think the people who hated it went into the film with the idea that it'd be about the making of the nuclear bombs, but it wasn't. It's not that at all. It's about the life and the history of the man, Oppenheimer. Obviously the bombs play a huge role in that, but that's not the story that is being told. It's the story of the man, the man who became death, destroyer of worlds... And Nolan, along with an excellent performance from Murphy, portrayed that story beautifully
This is not acting. This is how you try to understand everything they saying, because your mind thinking differently and all you can do is just nod and smile.

This is a military commander turning up the volume and yelling at a guy, something military commanders do all the time. And it's in a context where the military commander is used to yelling at people to get what they want. And he's trying to convince the guy of something and he's annoyed he has to try to convince him rather than just order him to do something
@@mymyscellany And I'm saying I didn't buy Damon's performance as a military commander.
I compare it to Vince Vaughn's performance in True Detective Season 2. He wants to be seen as this intimidating guy but the performance isn't there to support it. And Vince Vaughn can be very intimating in roles with the right material.
Same here with Damon. I don't believe Matt Damon as a military commander. There is a layer of gruffness that just isn't there for me to buy it. Takes me out of the film because I begin to wonder how this jobber moved up the ranks if no one takes him seriously enough to follow his order. In addition to the comical delivery of Damon.
@mymyscellany - it just comes across as hammy - quite a few moments in the movie do.
The gentle 'sorry, dude' that Murphy's smile gives in this scene is a gem.
Oh thank God, I thought you were just going to post the clip of Oppenheimer where he looks into the camera and says, "It's Oppen Theime" right before he detonates the nuke.
*_When he siad "I'm going to Oppen Japan" I got literal tears running down my spine_*
Me trying to convince the guidance counselor to change my schedule so I can have a class with my best friend:
I think this line is totally justified if only for Cillian Murphy's reaction to it.
i think his character is kinda played off as goofy on purpose innit?
@@greg4629 i mean yeah Nolan's writing is not that great either lol
Glad I’m not the only one who thought he sounded goofy asf
Fr it feels like Nolan wanted a clip for a nomination at the Oscar’s, y’know, when they play those 10 second clips after announcing each candidate?
he doesn't sound "goofy," he sounds desparate and because he's a character who is infused with gravitas (he's a general, doesn't show his emotions), when the scene is demanding, the scientist who doesn't understand the importance of what's happening, a reaction, he "let's it out," naturally, the way the character actually would
that's "good acting," and not anything "goofy"
if anything else, people are also confusing their reactions to the actor playing the character to just the character himself; the same way people confuse walter white's wife's actor for being disgusting, when the character (the wife) is completely justified (walt is continuously lying to his marriage partner)
@@bethenawaltz4190 as a fellow skylar white lover myself I’ll let you have this one but nah he sounded goofy
@@paulcarlsen5787 he doesn't sound goofy, he sounds serious
you think he sounds goofy; there's a difference
he's not being goofy, he's being serious
that's the point; the projection of goofiness is from you, probably because you're white
this scene + camera movement is all about people speaking FOR Oppenheimer instead of him mounting his own defense for his projects. Says a lot about Nolan's brilliance that he uses Matt Damon's fame and bravado--just off center--to draw attention away from Oppenheimer's lack of moral conviction, on display right down the middle of the frame.
When he said “Obladibada, Mr. Falconi, I lost my shit to the Diehard reference.
I liked the movie, I did, but this line was in the trailer (with that exact same read) and it was fucking ridiculous even then. 😂
I like how this scenes portrays some doubts in Oppenheimer and places the focus on Oppenheimer himself. Even though it is Groves shouting the camera stays focused on Oppenheimer showing how it’s really all about him. A masterpiece truly.
Out of context, this is straight up meme material
Oh man oh god oh man
Matt Damon such a goat
your content is a perfect mix of informative and mesmerizing! ✨
Bro wanted the Oscars for the best support 😅
As others have noted, the delivery makes sense in the context of the character. If anything is wrong, its not the acting but the writing. The rest of the movie has the whole "mid-century WWII gravitas", but Damon's line here sounds distinctly like something a millennial would say, and the resulting dissonance is comical.
It’s one of the most flagrant violations of “show, don’t tell” I can think of
@@liamshanley_21This has nothing to do with It
I dunno. I don't recall any particular distaste after hearing the line in theatre within the context of the scene.

Cillian bravely resisting the temptation to stick his tongue out as he walks out of shot
Not even the biggest Nolan fan but I think this was just genuinely supposed to be a funny bit just cause of Damon's little "fuck!" off camera and Cillian's smirk afterwards
Nah the best acting as definitely when he was in the meeting, had Florence Pugh grinding on him naked and he still kept a straight face
Money makes me do some weird stuff. I loved the creativity behind that scene but boy, the balls and confidence it takes to do that kind of scene in front of so many people is wild.

“Why? Why? How about because this is the most important FUCKING thing that’s happened in the history of the world! How about that!”- 😡

He already won the Bafta. Next stop, the Oscars.
You were right
I remember seeing this line in the trailer in thinking it sounded horrible, luckily in the actual movie he says “fucking” which makes it a little better but still
I initially thought cillian was just portraying a kind of uncomfortablity with his and damon's character's conflicting styles in attempting to persuade the scientist. I just realized it seems like he's also showing Oppenheimer really hear what Damon's saying and have a moment of distraction feeling the weight of what's on his shoulders before he refocuses on persuading the other scientist
When your mom is pissed you don't come down for dinner.
Why do directors choose Damon for the most random roles. He had no business being in this movie
I really love this part too
damn i forgot how crisp quality audio is in this movie
This scene is great
It’s memorable
And I love it yall tripping
I couldn’t believe we have Florence Pugh to thank for the iconic quote when I first saw this movie

He just blinks a lot.
Sorry I couldn't hear the dialogue over the music
Whoever mixed this video didn't do a great job

This scene gives me fucking chills, honestly there are so many scenes that give me the chills in this movie, but this one right there... it's something.
I love how he literally was gonna explain it, then went from oh youre talking to, oh wow i really dont need to say anything.
Incidentally also the average character who isn't speaking at that moment in amateur theatre lol
Don’t understand the hate. Seems like a decent scene and it didn’t stand out or anything in the flow of the movie
Bruh, what a delusional comment section. Everybody is having no problem at all, but just because it is a Nolan movie. Otherwise, everybody would mock at Matt Damon.
Couldn't agree more. I just posted this clip because I thought it was funny
My man really casted thomas shelby💀
Wait till you find out he's casted him in 6 of his films
I don’t think the problem is Damon’s performance. It’s the line. It’s too melodramatic

Cillian Murphy outacted Matt Damon here without even saying a word
saw this in the trailer and I don't know how you're meant to make it serious. The whole scene was off from its inception.
Yeah, this is a mixture of things happening, the military guy is a not that much charismatic man who is just pissed in the secene, that's why his talking is sloppy, like, that happens when u are angry, then Oppenheimer just reacts with a simple awkward smile in part because he is awkward and in part because he understands the position of the scientist and doesn't cares that much
(Srry for my english i'm from Spain)
Me while my mom is tearing into a teacher who mistreated me:
i am happy to see it in 70mm
Acting is so effortful for Matt- Jimmy Kimmel
dont know why everyone thinks this is bad acting wtf
I really liked this movie, I think the people who hated it went into the film with the idea that it'd be about the making of the nuclear bombs, but it wasn't. It's not that at all. It's about the life and the history of the man, Oppenheimer. Obviously the bombs play a huge role in that, but that's not the story that is being told. It's the story of the man, the man who became death, destroyer of worlds... And Nolan, along with an excellent performance from Murphy, portrayed that story beautifully
This is not acting. This is how you try to understand everything they saying, because your mind thinking differently and all you can do is just nod and smile.
Amazing acting, I just wish Nolan would have left the music a little lower in scenes like this. It did break the immersion quite a bit to me.
I love Matt Damon but i feel like he wasn't the right choice for the role.
Every other character were perfectly cast. Like Cassey Affleck was so good.
