Those are ghost notes. You hold your fretting hand over the string(s) to mute them and with your plucking hand you hit the strings as usual.

I thought the x’s in tabs meant palm mute but I don’t see your palm anywhere near the strings, are you using a different technique? Sorry if it’s obvious I’m completely new to bass
I play bass myself, and if I'm not mistaken, the x's mean to play "dead" notes which are basically playing notes normally but not pressing down on the fret. This gives a thudding sound which can be said sounds "dead". That's my take at least.
He's muting the strings with his fretting hand, they're ghost notes.
I’ve been learning this without the ghost notes, and as i become more confident with the groove then i add the ghost notes.

How did you do that sliding from 3 to 20 at 1:04?
Practice this step very slowly and by swiping your left hand on the handle without detaching it, you will find that it is not so difficult;)

It’s called a pop and it’s where you pull the string up with your index finger and release it onto the fretboard

It’s a lot of ad libbing and it’s hard to make out exactly what Marcus is up to. He mostly vamps on the low f with a pop or two on the octave and Eb, he does a little blues thing to echo the vocals on the second time through, and around the ninth time he does a high blues riff at the 13th fret
