It's a bit misleading that several early presidents are ranked highly on this list, because they were what might be called "land-rich but cash-poor." Their wealth was in the land and the slaves. The plantations did not generate enough income to pay the workers once slavery ended, although smaller ones survived into the 20th century by using tenant farmers, which was a form of near-slavery. It's my understanding that in the early 20th century, the "landed gentry" of rural England could no longer maintain their country houses because the rural populace demanded higher wages.

An American and Russian were arguing about what country's form of government was best. The American said, I can go into Reagan's office, slam my fist on his desk, and say, I don't like how you're running this country. The Russian said, I can do that too. I can match into Gorbachev's office and say, I don't like how Reagan is running his country. It went something like that.

Harry Truman had no wealth. He was a humble man, and he did not even get a presidential pension when he left office. Eisenhower was the first one who got a pension. Abraham Lincoln also had no wealth.
Sound judgement? Lol. There's a saying "It is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it... anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
When Secretary of the Interior Ray Wilbur spoke at the ceremony starting the building of the railway between Las Vegas and the dam site on September 17, 1930, he named the dam "Hoover Dam", citing a tradition of naming dams after Presidents, though none had been so honored during their terms of office. At that time J. Edgar Hoover was only 35 years old, and had only been with the Bureau for six years.

@@seahawksfan4204 Most real estate in today's modern economy could be sold for cash directly or through a bank, if the owner needed liquidity urgently. That wasn't always possible in the old slave plantation economy.
Jimmy Carter was more than a peanut farmer..he was also Governor of Georgia for 4 years prior to becoming POTUS. Ronald Reagan was also the Governor of California for 8 years so they had some political experience. Donald Trump had no political experience whatsoever.
Carter was also a Nuclear Engineer
The property bringing up it has been crazy. My neighbors bought there house for 12 grand 45 years ago. Now it’s value and asking price is 200k
Talk about actors in politics. Did you know Arnold Swartsneggar was governor of California? For about 6 years maybe more.
I don’t know if I missed it, but did they say if these numbers were adjusted for inflation or is it their wealth at the time?
Flashback! I have a friend who lives in Herbert Hoover's birthplace, West Branch, IA. I've actually been in that little house. The future president slept in a little trundle bed. I have closets bigger than that house. Cheers....
Mr. Beat is great. Good choice!
5000 acres in orange co. VA would be in the billlions
Dwayne Johnson (the rock) says he might run for president and right now he is co-owner of the football league (American football) the XFL
Harrison got sick cause his speech was super long and it was cold and rainy and didn’t dress for the weather ((side question I wanted to send you a shirt from America but what size shirt do you wear that way it’s not the wrong size))
Being President was Reagan's biggest and best roles. He was one of the most humorous Presidents. Check out Reagan's humor on RUclips. He was very good. One of his jokes was as follows.
As President, you are allowed to make other profits, but you are not (depending on how you view the law) allowed to use the office of the Presidency to promote your financial interests.
Politics, sports and religion are the most divisive topics on Earth.
I was born in 1990 so I can say Abe Lincoln was my favorite president; regardless I registered to vote at 17 and at 18 I voted for Obama (who I still think is great)
Woodrow Wilson began The League of Nations the predecessor to the United Nations.
The most interesting question is this: Which Presidents left office wealthier than when they entered. It is impossible to do on a government salary. They claim it's from book sales. 🙄
React to one weird fact about every President and one weird fact about every Vice President by Derek Adam Thomas… really well done video
William Henry Harrison caught pneumonia on his inauguration day becasue it was terribly cold and he spoke outside in the cold and he died just a month later.
You never get rich in politics unless you are a crook- Harry Truman What does that say about alot of them that were not rich before becoming president and even more so afterwards??
I mean Bill Clinton and Obama makes hundreds of thousands per speech and makes millions of book deals..... They all play the system and are immoral if not crooked.
After Carter lost to Reagan the price of peanuts and peanut butter skyrocketed.
Kabir, Hoover Dam was named after J. Edgar Hoover. Head of the F.B.I.
Average price of land in Virginia is $4,650 per acre. For 5,000 acres that would be $23.25 million.
Teaching helps with making public speaking. Good for political candidates
It's not just that you can't make extra money as President. It's more specific, and also more broad at the same time (something the US Constitution is known for), in that you can't have personal gain due to your position in Office
Reagan was governor of California before becoming president...
In the film Back to the Future a character marvels at the possibility of an actor becoming president of the USA. If you haven’t seen the film please do a review.
I tried watching but can't take Mr. Beat. On to the next one.
Democracy means that anyone can grow up to be president, and anyone who doesn't grow up can be vice president.
Ronald Reagan. In the 80’s we used to say that he was Margaret Thatcher’s bit on the side. 🤣🤣
Sad thing about Reagan though, he got Alzheimer’s whilst he was still in office.
I felt every cringe about the slaves, you did. Not proud to be an American over that.
Trumps businesses actually took losses while he was president, and they still haven't recovered so he was loosing money rather then making it. also, I wonder if these are adjusted for inflation? A million in the 1700's isn't equal to a million today.
not too many know that though.
We love our based #1-5 Presidents!!!
Ideally, politicians shouldn't make any money while in office, only lose it. It's public service. But since people still need to eat and have roofs over their heads and such, the honest politician should* come into office already rich, able to live on his own money, without taking anything from the people he serves. I don't need to tell you that this *never happens...
They are talking US Presidents here.
Bloody hell, some Americans would vote for Micky Mouse if he ran for president. 🤣
Well Kanye was running too! Imagine if he would have Won and we'd be trapped in this whole Kim & Kanye battle they are having now !
Now I know why my family has been so poor, it's a curse from all our ancestors!
Willian HEnry Harrison caught pneumonia during his inaugural address, and died.
If you cant see who the moneys coming from. It's coming from you. You are the mark.
Yeah I don't need to say this because everybody's told you that Reagan was governor of California for 8 years but trump was an actor also had a show on TV and it been on several things so I don't think he had much to qualify him for being a president I'm sure You would say Reagan had a lot more experience answer
I don't understand how someone who thought it was alright to own other people, could be someone's favourite anything.
Ronald Reagan an actor who becomes President with no experience. I guess you didn't know he had been two term governor of California.
Former Presidents enriching themselves after leaving office has always bugged the hell out me . Now being pres is a path to become rich. sad . Clinton and Obama have each sold there souls to become super rich .
You do know that President Obama was already a best selling Author before he became President right? His first two books made it on The New York Times Best sellers list.
@@xoxxobob61 Yes i do Bob , but what was his net worth the day he took office and what is it today ? check that out then tell me he hasn't enriched himself as a Former President . They all do it but Clinton and Obama are glaring in their greed .
@@paulharrold I don't understand why you have a problem with Former Presidents leveraging their status to becoming wealthy. They all have done it but you are singling out Clinton & Obama for some reason. Are Dubya & Trump not doing the same?
@@xoxxobob61 None of them should do it ! Bush was already worth 100's M ,Trump billions . And i don't think anyone is paying Trump to give speeches . It cheapens the Highest office in the land and maybe the world . we will never agree and that's fine . I'm an old guy and believe in Of the People By the People For the People , not every dollar you can grab. take care
You sound biased and republican @@paulharrold
Kabir, you should watch Robert O’Neill who is the Navy Seal Seal Team 6 operator who killed Osama Bin Laden and his video on killing Bin Laden
We had a liar and conman, not so good!!!
Of course presidents have always been allowed to continue their businesses. Otherwise, no one, from Washington on, would have been able to afford public service. Are there any offices in the Anglosphere where we would expect a person to give up there career for a temporary post? All we have ever asked is that their business be run at (transparently) arm's length from their public office. How many morons do we want seeking public office for the paycheck?
Having sound judgment and being US president are completely different things.
Reagan. Yeah, we couldn’t believe it either.
President Obama is younger than I am. It feels weird being older than a past president.
William Henry Harrison died of pneumonia after giving like a 4 hour presidential acceptance speech in the freezing rain.
It should’ve been law that if you owned slaves you couldn’t be president. I know not very realistic for the time that they were president and if they were never president things would be extremely different the. They are now but still.
You should react to Utah rap festival by channel 5 news
I’ll put it on my list!
Gerald Ford turned down NFL offers.
I wonder if these are like set for the current time like inflation?
1:14 jump scare warning
Lmao
Upon becoming President they are suppose to put their business' and assets into trusts until they leave office to conflict of interest statutes and most prohibitions against gifts.
Trump is worth approximately 10 billion or so.
I just saw 7100 acres in Virginia up sale for 9.880 million bucks.
