Thank you! Love your ministry! I was in a cessationist church for 30 years, but the pastors and elders would anoint with oul and pray over people. I was healed twice of serious conditions the two times they prayed for me. God called me into a full gospel church after I recieved the gift of tongues 2 years ago. Thank you again!!

It’s amazing that Spurgeon, very likely being a cessationist, pursued and loved God and his people so deeply that God’s use of him transcended his very own cessationism. Spurgeon was only cessationist in name only, and in actuality the gifts were more present in his own ministry than so many Charismatic and Pentecostal ministries today!

I’m something in between Free Grace theology and Lordshipists theology. I’m Pentecostal and believe healing is in the atonement. I have some word of faith aspects but hate prosperity gospel, call out false teachers, and hate positive confession and little god doctrine.
I believe in the second experience of baptism of the Spirit with evidence of tongues.
I believe in some views that are hyper grace others that are doom and gloom and semi pietistic.
I believe in the five solas, law/Gospel distinction, PSA, objective subjective justification, etc.
I believe in some aspects of Christian mysticism.
I believe it’s always Gods will to heal.
      I reject the filioque.
I believe in being made perfect in love and Theosis.
      I believe in Christian pacifism.
      A mid trib rapture
I’m all about sound Trinitarian doctrine and the hypostatic union (I guess all true Christian’s agree on this though).
My political beliefs (rooted in my theology) are basically American solidarity if I understand their views right.
I know all about being the redhead step child no one wants 🤣🤣😂

Just letting you guys know how much I appreciate your ministry. I listen to a lot of theology podcasts, and many of the Bible teachers I respect are cessasionists, so it can be discouraging. Listening to Remnant is a breath of fresh air for this “Reformed Charismatic.”

I appreciate this ministry as well. As much as I was helped out of excessive charismania through (in part) the sound exegesis of numerous Christians - some of whom were and still are cessationists - I could not deny the genuine gifts. What I have noticed is that there are far too many cessationists here on RUclips that are sneering, sarcastic, aloof and actually discouraging even when I agree with their Biblical proving of false teachers. I have seen intellectual pride on both sides of the fence but have seen none of that here, though I have only watched around a dozen videos. I come away from this place edified and dying to serve God.

As a classical Pentecostal Pastor we have so many people who go to a cessationist church that either call someone from our church or have come to our services asking for us to pray for them to be healed. We open our hearts and are glad to pray for them and many have been heal by God. I believe that they know God can heal but can’t get past their doctrine to pray for themselves.
Also, how can we not say that a Christian passing away is not healing or an answer to pray. I never question whether God was willing to heal but rather believe that God answers as He sees fit and sometimes that may be to receive them into His presents. I have even heard of how God spoke to someone and told them to take certain medications that relieved they pain. God spoke to me and told me to go to a Chiropractor for my severe back problems. I just want to trust God and accept His answer is always right.

    • @godsstruggler8783
      @godsstruggler8783 2 года назад +1

With the gifts comes a great responsibility to minister them in love and without pride. Perhaps Spurgeon was blinded to his gift so that he concentrated on the centrality of preaching Christ crucified. It certainly is (or could be) liberating for cessationists to know that their prayers can raise a person from the dead if God so wills it, regardless of nitpicking over words and definitions.

I love that section about how we don't serve a legalistic God who makes us pray in very specific ways before He'll move. Praise the Lord for that!! It's easy for me to feel like I'm not praying with enough power, and the story at that part of the episode was very encouraging for me.

The first healing I saw (besides my own) was of a man stumbling into our meeting in a hostel where I was living. He had come to just watch and made that clear. By the end of the meeting he had shared some very painful stuff and asked us to pray for him as a shadow had been diagnosed on one of his lungs. He didn't have long left. Nobody laid hands on (it seemed inappropriate) but a few of us prayed that Jesus would heal him.
I bumped into him in the city some time later and we recognised each other. He was not saved (evidenced by being disinterested in speaking of Jesus) but did report that the shadow disappeared and thanked us for praying. He did also imply that there might have been a mix-up over the images - the doctors simply couldn't explain it away.
Looking back, I too had been like one of the nine lepers - getting what I wanted after prayer to Jesus but not wanting Him - and then clinging onto the notion of coincidence as I clinged to my life. Still, seeds were sowed and God was glorified to us who prayed.

Very helpful references to Conwell's biography (most later biographers censor all references to healing in Spurgeon's ministry) and very insightful comments along the way about healing in general. Thanks. By the way, I believe Spurgeon broke out into prophecy in his sermon "The Power of the Holy Ghost" when he predicted a coming, Spirit-empowered revival.

I do find it interesting that Jesus would often tell a healed or set free person not to tell anyone. He didn't make a RUclips video out of every miracle he did. But at the same time a person who is touched by God will often have the natural response of declaring that praise to others.

Thank you for this discussion! What a blessing. I'm sharing it.
Respectfully, may I add an interesting point: Thorns in the flesh are mentioned twice in the OT, in Numbers and Joshua.
    They are not sickness.
They are enemy PEOPLES, living beings. Paul asked that his whatever depart from him.
    He didn't ask for healing.
I think the messenger--angel?-- of Satan was a demon causing trouble.
But I agree, healing is for today, in the Atonement, Matthew 8:16. Yet, they don't always happen in this world.

I heard Spurgeon spent time at a family cabin as a teen where he was isolated and got familiar with God's word to the point where his understanding of it just blew everyone away. He's prewrath and not pre trib like today's baptists and others. I have read through the bible a couple times and believe pre wrath is biblical based on what the Lord says in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. We're not going to just up and fly away until the Lord returns to redeem us and deal with His enemies.
And why the surprise at healing ministries? James said if anyone is sick let the elders put their hands on them and pray for them. Putting God in a box potentially causes Him to not be interested in providing miracles in your life. So we have to be careful here and hope but not for silly things. If the Lord blesses you, you are blessed. He is sovereign meaning He does what He wills.
    James 5:14 KJV
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
    Matthew 13:58 KJV
And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
    Mark 6:5 KJV
And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
    Matthew 9:29 KJV
Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
