What they are saying is true. As a 69-year-old woman I fell straight on my back on a hard bucket years ago still in my 60s and most people would not have survived the fall without being in a wheelchair. My doctors say it’s a miracle. I was raised by European parents who taught us to eat meat, and all kind of things that they don’t eat here. I attribute that bone structure to the eating of protein to be an important part of the meal. My granddaughter recently fell lightly on her wrist and broke it and her parents have had her eat vegan for much of her life and she is nine now. I’ve been telling my daughter for a while that your children need to eat protein. They are also sick all the time and catch everything. I have learned much from this doctor about protein and even though I’m older and do not feel like eating it sometimes I’ll make sure that I do because I know it’s good for me. Thank you for this video.

Muscle is 100% the key to prediabetes. I was prediabetic, and made changes to my diet which helped, but I started strength training 9 months ago. When I first started if I ate ice cream, my BS would spike to 170. Now, if I eat ice cream, my BS never goes over 130 and drops back to normal (below 100) in 20 minutes. It is absolutely incredible how muscle makes that much of a difference in our metabolic health! Not to mention how much stronger I feel and how much my mobility has improved!

I have been following Dr. Lyon for years. She was the only person on YT who ever mentioned anything about seniors. I liked what she had to say about meat protein because I have been a meat eater all my life and at age 77 years ( female) I'm doing ok and I am still physically strong. I have eaten one meal a day since I was 14 years old and I never felt hungry. Recently I started eating veggies just to make my diet more well rounded but I make sure that on the days I have a veggie meal it also includes animal protein. I also eat junk food, because I believe in enjoying my life while I'm here. : )

ditch your veggies. seriously. ALL the nutrition, vitamins, minerals etc are available in fatty red meat. Research the Carnivore diet -- since veggies are plants they have no defense system other than to pump toxins and poison into themselves in an attempt to kill what is trying to eat them.

The protein numbers make a lot of sense. However, in reality I have discovered with my CGM that my glucose goes up significantly when I eat half a chicken breast, or 6 ounces of ribeye. I can eat 1/4 chicken breast and 3 ounces of steak with no problem. So mystified how to get to 130 grams of protein per day without spiked blood sugar, and consequently spiked insulin.

Nobody seems to talk about how protein can impact kidney function enough especially in high amounts. They only touched on it briefly and said it only impacts people with kidney disease. I have no kidney disease I or my doctor is aware of. I tried 1g to 1lb body weight and suffered from Uric Acid kidney stones as well as a higher than expected BUN level. The amount of purines generated from many sources of protein can contribute greatly to stone formation. I used to eat 10 lbs lean chicken a week though for weight lifting purposes. I cut that in half and drink lemon juice everyday and no more stones. Should I maybe eat more plant sources of protein? Idk

Everyone is different. Some people have an easier time forming stones and are more sensitive to things introduced to the body. I do know some studies suggest that high protein can in fact be detrimental to kidney function. But they also note the quality of protein plays a role too. I was eating a shit ton of boneless skinless chicken which would be listed as one of the high quality proteins cited. So idk

(reference to about minute 38) All the nonred meat sources ( poultry, milks, eggs and fish) only comprise another 4 or 5% total together. We can still be carnivores, just eat less fatty meat and hence see less inflammation too.

I found this really confusing. My ideal weight would be 135 lb. So I should be eating 135 grams of protein a day? Okay. But then by the end of this show she says I’m supposed to get 30 grams per meal, which would be 90 grams a day, which is 45 grams less than she said I needed at the beginning of this podcast, but okay. Whatevs. So, I have 30 grams of protein for breakfast. There are six grams of protein in an egg. So, I should eat 5 eggs every morning? WTF? That’s insane! Not so hard to get 30 grams per meal for the rest of the day. A chicken breast and a six ounce steak, and you’re covered. A quarter pound of hamburger (yikes! That’s a lot!) or ground turkey, and you’re good. But if the amount of protein in the morning matters so much-start having steak and eggs, I guess. And the exercise part. Weight bearing. it’s not complicated, but you have to do it right (do WHAT right?) or you’ll injure yourself. But you can do it at home. And how often? Twice a week? Or maybe six days a week. Or whatever you want. Because it’s not complicated. Worst podcast Dr Hyman has ever hosted.

According to Dr Donald Layman her mentor says that the first meal should contain at least 50 grams, so should your last meal.
Colin Dewaay suggests 40-45 grams per meal.
      I do 50.
      Why....
Because what you eat in protein isn't what your body can / utilize due to the conversion process.
Up to 30% can be lost.
      Example...
Eat 100 grams of protein and the body will only utilise 70 grams.
      Or
50 grams and the net amount would be 35 grams.
      Caveat....
I am getting half the amount of protein ( 0.5 ) and I see results.
And that is eating in the 50 grams per meal range, doing mostly 2MAD.
      😀

@kathyrnjmaver - yes, eat 135 gm. Protein for the day, if that's your ideal body weight. Without watching this whole video Yet, split your protein up thru out the day, to hit your 135!
She's Not gonna break it down specifically for Everybody! She's here to give ideas & knowledge!
First & last meal, should be your highest Protein meals. Like 40-45+ grams or so, of Protein. "Aim" for at least 30-35+ gm. Per meal or "snack". Just do the math on Your Protein goal, to split it up per meal, or eating it during the day. You don't have to eat a Full meal. Just cook some meat & have it handy to eat (snack). Try cottage cheese, etc.
Chicken is High Protein; low calorie & low fat! Eat that with your eggs, or add bacon Etc for more Protein. You don't need 5-6 eggs. Mix it up.
Ex: 3 eggs & 3-1/2 to 4 oz chicken, OR 4 Eggs with bacon, beef, or turkey sausage. That should get you at 40gm or so. That's good!
Then, ex: 5+ oz chicken at nite = 40+ gm. SO ... (135 - 80gm = 55 Left to go), for another time or two during the day. Just get close enough, if that's all you can do.
Exercise: do body bands or lift weights. Do it right???
Technique/ Form matters, so you don't hurt yourself! There are Many videos on YT, to help you. Muscle doesn't happen over night! It's a process.
Start by doing various reps/sets. There are some trainers that can show you exercises to build muscle with doing 30 min. to an hour or so, several times a week. But, you must stick with it! I would Aim for 3x per week, and add from there! Most sessions are longer. Just decide on some exercises, and decide how many reps/sets that You want to do, & then Increase as you go! Just get started; and start slow! Women recover faster than men! Avoid doing the Same muscle group daily. Your muscles build & repair, during rest times (days off)!
I broke this down about the best I could.
This was actually a Very informative video! It covers things that Most doctors don't know, or will tell you!

The climate change as a reason to resist eating meat is not the point with the nature. The reason is the biodiversity: decreasing of different species is a big issue and has to do with meat production. Yes, I eat whey protein, eggs, fish, chicken, greek youghurt, cheese, beans, lentils, pea protein, nuts and seeds, but no read meat.

Great discussion, but.. ... The argument that eating less meat is pointless for a healthier planet is completely false. That's the the same as saying that improving the efficiency and emissions standards of our cars doesn't lead to cleaner air. Clearly, those things help (no pun intended).
By consuming meat we lose 90% of the energy that went into creating that meat, not to mention the water resources. I'm 51 years old and I've been a vegetarian for 35 years and I am the second healthiest person I know of any age. Over my lifetime the impact of my diet is not insignificant. I'm not a vegetarian evangelist and I'm not saying that no one should eat meat or do what I do, but I wholly reject the defeatist agreement that decreasing meat consumption has no impact on our environment. And I am living proof that one can take care of ones body and be a better steward of the planet at the same time.
(By the way, I'm writing this while on a stairmill climbing the equivalent of taking the stairs beyond the highest floor of the tallest building in the world.)

Protein, which most people already consume close to twice the amount they need, which for most people is NOT lean plant-based protein but rather meat, which is high in saturated fat, and that is supposedly preventing obesity ? Um, no. Fat and especially saturated fat is what CAUSES obesity and diabetes, and heart disease. It also happens to be terrible for our planet's health. So yeah, instead of pushing people to eat even more protein, how about following the optimal, most natural diet for humans which is predominantly plant-based, low-fat, moderate-protein, high-carb diet. It's a win-win for everyone. Better for our health, cheaper for our healthcare systems, much easier on the planet, oh and better for the animals we eat too. But there are billions to be made in the meat industry so you keep seeing "studies" that suggest red meat is good and other nonsense like this.
