As an Afghan I want to thank you for covering his story. Nasrat Parsa was one of our most talented singers😢.

Nasrat was my classmate from grade 1-3 in Kabul. I saw him again in India in the 80’s when he was singing at a wedding.
He was a superstar of an artists and a true gentleman. His voice and his skill would have made him even a bigger legend…
I once asked a famous Ghazal singer (Ghulam Ali) if he knew of any Afghan musicians. He said he knew many but the most talented one was Nasrat Parsa…
I will never forget him. I loved him like a brother….
“Surely we belong to God and to Him we shall return.”

What a tragic story for Nasrat. Seemed a kind and gentle soul. What kind of justice is that for his murder of only 3 years probation!

A sensitive and thorough treatment of a tragic story JC. I appreciate your inclusion of samples of the artist’s work and POV from his fans’ perspective, as well as the glimpse into his family’s experience “auf den grünen Weiden Deutschlands.”

Thanks for sharing this concise and on-site knowledge about the legend. It tells a lot about the fate of beautiful souls who never found a safe place at home, and unfortunately in this case abroad either. It raises many other questions that why Nasrat saw it difficult to return to his home country despite the fact that in 2005 Afghanistan was not as free as Canada and Germany, it was, however, one of the free countries in the region for music and singers. I really appreciate that you did this brief yet very significant research about the final hours of a legend who very unfortunately short lived and left us forever. RIP Nasrat Jan!!

@@jcvancouver : manslaughter. when a person purposely injures someone on a part of their body that is absolutely essential to life (head, throat, lungs, heart), and it leads to their death, that person needs to be charged with more than manslaughter.

Loose translation of the tomb stone:
"In the name of the most compassionate and the most merciful (God)"
In this soil, a master in the art and a flower in garden has slept that this beautiful flower was cut in a Spring morning. Here is the eternal resting place of the Afghanistan music star, Nasrat Parsa.
We are from God and we return to God.
The below is a Persian poem about the agony of losing Nasrat Parsa.

They put him in a five star hotel and thanked him for his treacherous act. Because we live in society where butchery and being a thug is accepted as a way of life. I wish I was there that night. I would have broken every bone in that thug’s body.
