I feel like this is why people love Spidey and Batman so much. Because you can relate to the darkness that Batman feels, or more accurately even the depression he feels and the drive to make change, and you’re inspired by the action he takes and resolve he has. With Spidey hes relatable for reasons we all understand, and he inspires you to take great responsibility with the power youre given.
How do you relate to a multi billionaire that went through immense pain and decided to sacrifice his life into darkness for a vague purpose?
I do feel inspired by him, certainly not "relatable".
@@pantelisdalezios811 i dont relate to him as multi billionaire the same way I dont relate to a dude with spider powers that saves lives. I relate to him because he uses the pain from his traumatic experiences to strive to become an ideal.
@@pantelisdalezios811 and vague? What? His mission is to bring down crime in gotham. His purpose is pretty definite.
@Mom Matthew He didnt really say anything particularly negative or positive about either charaacters mentioned. he just asked how relatability works with the character in question
@@pantelisdalezios811 people dont relate with the concept of the character, but the things they go through and the decisions they have to make. Batman's constant war against his guilt, grieving, etc. make him quite relatable as everyone experiences or will experience such tragedies and have gone through the journey of overcoming them. His moral values, such as his strong sense of justice and determination to net let a single soul in gotham city experience the loss that shifted the course of his life also appeals to comparatively smaller audiences that share this sense of justice. the way you describe him can be applied to any character. as HerbaSchmurba already demonstrated
Hard not to agree, valid argument

I would say Spider-Man fulfills both roles. He's very relatable and at the same time inspiring because he goes through what we do and still keeps moving forward despite how hard the world hits him.
Hence why he's often held as a sort of paragon of influence even within continuity lol
Id say Superman fufills a similar role on the DC side of things. Hes one of the most human superheroes of all time, that's why he is still top three in terms of popularity
@@Yes-yx6uc yeah that is true...but recently there is a trend of Evil superman plus Superman is god-like in power too
I need to find a spider fast, I am gonna spider man!!!!!!!!
@@pizzaman3031 Those evil Supermen have been around for ages now, and their purpose is to show what it would be like if Superman's mindset wasn't the one we look up to him for. Furthermore, having incredible power makes it all the more inspiring when he chooses to be human and fight for a better tomorrow, when he could easily exploit that power.
It’s inspiring seeing Superman reborn and hearing both his alien and human father speak to him about how he’s humanity’s hope, it’s also inspiring seeing Batman being inspired by Superman and looking to fix his error by uniting the JL
I mean I dunno, Spider Man lifting an entire building over himself was pretty inspiring
Just don’t look at his current Spider Man comic
Spider-man is basically the exception to this, like he is the only character that can work outside of marvel completely and doesn't really need other marvel characters to tell his story
Spider-man is one of the character that have both things that we love . Relatability and admiration, the bro is broke asfuck but still would save peoples lifes KNOWING that he can have a good life ahead if he just dont bother .
It counts almost nothing compared to how many times the writers try to screw him up, just to make him feel relatable.
nah that’s relatable af
When Batman shot a gun I was done with the whole thing.

The best thing about superheroes (even anti heroes to a degree) is that every one of them can be inspiring in unique ways to people regardless of their origin. DC and Marvel do this fantastically with showing the power of inner potential and character and pursuing amazing ideals like kindness or compassion, or overcoming your own evils.
I believe both Marvel AND DC are made to relate and inspire people with these stories
well it's worked (I hope) for almost 100 years let's see if they can do 100 more.@@jamestolbert1856
DC > Marvel (I am more of a Marvel fan because of Thanos, Magneto, and Dr Doom)
As a Marvel fan, I admit DCEU has more potential than MCU but Warner Brothers ruined it. Not only DC is better than Marvel in terms of power scaling and cosmology, obviously with more powerful characters. DC is also better than Marvel and also in terms of potential, being more popular (Batman is the most popular superhero, with Superman second, and Spider-Man third), better characters, writing, stories, movies, animations, shows / tv series, cartoons, and comics, or basically anything else.
I've always seen DC and Marvel as equals, despite going with different philosophies of what it means to be a hero. DC tend to focus on the natural result of someone or something being deities amongst mortals or someone who stands above humanity or at least the concept of it, both good and evil. Marvel on the other hand, tends to look at powers and abilities one have as a gift or a curse, and the responsibilities that come with the package, and what consequences one can have on those close to you. They both have these qualities, but one franchise focus on their main aspect than the other, which isn't bad, but rather interesting. They take different paths to similar ideas. Even with how they manage to organize connections between characters, especially with teams, like the Justice League, Teen Titans, The Avengers, The New Warriors, and so on, and how they deal with other, and their perspective of the morality of being someone who holds the value of being a hero.@@codeck4442
In india only kid see superheroes. Super heroes is so childish lol
Surely I relate to a billionaire, a playboy and the man who flyies in a metal suite
Yes
Better than spiderman
I recall hearing something like. Marvel is About men being gods.
DC is about God's, being men
Neither is correct so...
@@imaginaryking5276 no no he’s got a point
No you're absolutely right. I don't remember where I heard this...but the characters in The Justice League (again this could just me from some random ass comic book) are all based after Greek gods. Like they are almost an avatar of different gods. For example Aries is like The flash, Superman is like Hercules, Shazam is like Zeus. And so on. So potentially for a mythological standpoint it makes the characters waaay more interesting.
In a sense they are avatars of different gods. And that's pretty badass. 😅
@@jordanfelt5978 Flash as the avatar of Aries the God of War? I'd say he's the avatar of Hermes
@@johannsanne5281 yep yep, sorry that's what I meant to say. Hah
Facts, that’s why I loved The Batman, by the end of the movie it showed how Batman need to be the symbol to inspire people to hope and not just be a agent of vengeance, May Reeves was cooking like crazy with that one
The last Batman movie was actually really inspiring that’s why I loved it
You talking about the 2022 Batman movie? Yeah that one is inspiring
I think for some part of DCEU, Zack Snyder really nailed that "inspiring" feel, like in MoS, Wonder Woman (I think he has some influence in this film), and Zack Snyder Justice League.
On the other hand, James Gunn excels on the relatable part, as proven in GotG, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker.
i think thats also why the nolan trilogy worked so well they’re very inspirational
The thing is that when Superman cracks Zod's neck, he understands that is true enemy is himself and he gotta keep control. That's inspiring
That's true, I've always been inspirado by Batman by how he's become who he is with all the work he has done
When Batman realized Superman was not a villain in Batman Vs. Superman, it inspired him to stop branding the worst criminals and relieved him of whatever disenfranchised elements had formed within him over the 25 years he had been Batman.
Supetman wasn't exactly jumping for joy when he snapped Zod's neck, there was a want to put him in a moral quandary next to where he was already in a moral quandary over doubt within himself and wanting to help people.
Funnier still, Superman effectively killed Zod and his two minions in the 2nd Richard Donner movie just as Batman killed in his first four movies, but all those get forgiven somehow.
The point he’s tryna make is it shouldn’t have even been shown lol superman is not supposed to kill zod or the guy in the desert ect. Batman is not suppose to be mowing down guys with fucking machine guns like do you even hear yourself lol.
@@Bluebeetle1824 I hear myself perfectly well. It's you that apparently didn't read all of my post.
Snyder's films are always treated like pariahs for "doing the wrong thing narratively" with these characters and yet:
- Batman repeatedly murdered criminals in the first two Tim Burton movies and the two Joel Schumacher movies.
- Superman killed characters in the 2nd Richard Donner movie and the 4th Christopher Reeve movie.
Fans forgive those movies for doing the very things they've put Snyder's movies down for.
If all of the live action movies were held to the same regard, then there has never been a truly good live action adaptation of these characters, unless you count the George Reeves or Adam West versions of these characters.
These criminal minions put themselves in harm's way and a few are probably going to get killed or crippled. If you and others can't get over that yet wanna preach at people I don't know what to tell you outside I've gotten tired of being called stupid for liking Snyder's movies often enough, I kinda hope DC goes belly up financially.
As far as wanting something at least a little serious from a DC Comics movie, I don't particularly want Krypto in a Superman movie.
But hey, keep playing the hypocrite's card and preaching about holding one director's set of movies about a given group of characters to a certain standard while ignoring where past movies break your argument.
Apparently according to you, it was okay for Batman to use his car as a weaponized drone to kill off a group of bad guys protecting the Axis Chemical Plant in the 1989 movie, or send the Penguin falling into a vat of toxic waste in the sequel.
@@davidcatlett4052 listen the fact is Zack did not create Superman so it’s not his right to change superman arc and personality which is why he failed
@@Bluebeetle1824 Actually they've changed Superman a fair bit from when he was first created. He literally could only leap tall buildings in a single bound in the first comics, not just completely fly over everything. Heck, Superman even threw a criminal hundreds of miles killing him.
And that's beside where Batman actually used guns a lot at first in his comics.
But hey, keep obsessing over Snyder. Apparently to you, those are the only movies ever made about the characters. 🙄
You're welcome for the free history lessons I'm teaching you by the way.
If James Gunn goes too goofy with these characters, I'm just fine with turning up my nose to it and moving on to something else.
@@davidcatlett4052you need to read more carefully. I said personality and arc not his abilities lol. And Gunn gonna succeed cuz he uses the source material
I got bored of relatability
I will say in Batman v superman it was pretty inspiring in a way when the news broadcasts about superman while he saves countless people from danger
I would have completely disagreed with you when I was a kid. But as an adult I realize that you're completely right. Relatable superheroes may be maximumly good for kids, but as an adult I love my superheroes to be maximumly powerful.
I think a similar point could be made that when someone you relate with pushes through a tough situation it makes you feel like you can too
I like it when a hero could both be relatable, but also inspiring, feels weird why they can’t be both.
I never looked at it like that, but you’re giving me a new perspective
Inspiration is why people love Spider-Man, he never stops even when everyone is against him.
Well the relatability of marvel characters can also inspire people that no matter what situation your in there is always the bright side of it.
There's honestly nothing more inspiring than Spiderman let's be real
Flash.....
@Michael Demiurgos literally my second option after spiderman so makes sense
guys as someone who watches marvel I can relate that I always get bitten by radioactive spiders, become a giant green man, fight people who are possibly 100x stronger than me, fight purple aliens, get into a superhero team, always makes stupid excuses to hide my identity, have shitty cameos in shitty movies, fly like a bird, have the most cool superhero name and get into lots of drama ending with a video in my RUclips channel called “I apologise”
This is probably the best take I’ve heard on this subject. For me personally I think the Marvel universe still has pretty inspiring heroes though because of their relatable struggles, but I totally get why someone would get inspired by the DC heroes.
I tried to find an arguement against "relateable vs inspirational" but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense
I love DC just cause they have more dark and compelling stories while I find marvel stories to be more light hearted
Marvel is not lighthearted read demon in a bottle or kraven’s last hunt
Honestly W, you can prefer either one. I grew up with the MCU but some of my favorite heroes are from DC and I loved the flash specifically. (As you can see from my pfp 😅) Your defining of the two companies is spot on
Spiderman has always inspired me to be better idk i feel like he has a good combination of both inspiration and relatability
Superman snapping zods head was cool 😂😂
Superman, esp Henry Cavill's Superman motivated me to start DCEU and I don't regret it, the character taught me alot
*For me* (I had to put that in bold because people don’t know how opinions work these days), growing up as a Marvel kid, I’d say Marvel has its share of doing both.
Take a character like Spider-Man. To me, he’s mostly relatable, in the sense that he wasn’t always the guy that got the girl, and as Peter Parker he is a young man trying to find his way. Where the inspiration comes in is that, he always strive to be a better man. He fights for those that are seen as vulnerable and he tends to hold himself responsible, just as his uncles mantra wishes for him to do. When it comes to his enemies, he isn’t always the strongest but sometimes in a fight, it isn’t about your physical strength or coming up with contingency plans but having the heart and endurance to keep going. To me, nothing is more inspirational than that.
I like/love both DC and Marvel equally 🙂👍💙❤️
Man showed spidey as relatable rather than inspirational that’s crazy.
Good opinion. No biased. People had their own taste & favorite but it doesn't mean we can insults DC or Marvel because of our own favorite.
Great video. I just wanted to say that I think the biggest issue with dceu is they wanted the mcu so bad. They saw that success and tried to rip off it so hard. Dc’s movies where they didn’t do that are incredible such as the dark knight trilogy and the new batman
I wish the DCEU would take some notes from the DCAU, the animated movies slap. The dark knight returns movies go so fucking hard.
I like how he didn’t just say that he liked dc over marvel,he explained why and even has me quite intrigued in his statement
I personally prefer Marvel, because their heroes are indeed relatable, but at the same time, they’re pushing to be something more- I recall the ‘motto’ for Spider-Man PS4 “be greater”. They’re humans, but they’re trying to be more, and I feel for that reason Marvel is better. Their characters are grounded yet inspiring at the same time. Except Spider-Man comics right now… screw Paul, and screw what the editors are smoking…
To defend MOS, Superman was facing an ultimatum: Let Zod live and he ends up destroying Earth or kill him to save humanity. He had no other option.
I think that, we don't HAVE TO choose one or another, just enjoy.
With that said, it's the first time that i see these reasons, and i like them.
I recently watched Justice League Dark: Apokalips War and realized if this was live action, it could be on the level of Endgame or even better (personal opinion though).
They should have add the Joker Movie & The Batman Movie into the New DCEU universe. That will gonna be much more fun to have that kind of content in DC
I would submit that while that’s true, some characters are both relatable and inspiring, such as Spider-Man
I’m not a dc or marvel fan in particular I’m a Batman and Spider-Man fan. Also slowly coming around to seeing the appeal of Superman. It’s not like I don’t enjoy anything else dc or marvel puts out, but those are the ones I like really care about.
Spider-man: with great powers comes great responsibility💯
Batman:i am the knight,i am vengeance, i am Batman!💯
Yo who made the very first image? It looks amazing!
I like dc because of the arrowverse ( arrow, superman and Lois, flash, etc ) there are lots of great seasons and lots of great shows both being inspiring and relatable
That’s a valid reason. For me, I grew up mostly watching Marvel TV shows and movies way much more often than DC shows and movies so I grew attached to liking Marvel properties a lot but I got into DC stuff after high school and I love both DC and Marvel.
So I agree with you with that DC is an inspiration, and that the DC movies like Batman versus Superman or man of steel didn’t really inspire they were meant to be a mythological epic. They were supposed to be grandiose something larger than life, which I honestly like I loved the old DC EU before they try to change it into whatever birds of prey was.
Peter parker getting the bad ending in every universe hes in except the times where he's bad, yeah, relatable.
I very much agree with this. In fact, this is the best analogy between DC cinema and marvel cinema that I've seen.
I really hate how people is always trying to make Superman bad, or a bad superman copy (Homelander, Omniman etc) when Superman its such a hope symbol. He is just a good guy
I feel like one of the main reasons i prefer DC is the fact that I feel that the struggles the chracters go through are more relatable because the struggles are more human and real. Some if not most of the struggles boil down to the character trying to be human. DC is gods among men and Marvel is more men among gods. And from a narrative stand point its easier to relate to a god trying to be human than it is a human trying to be godly. Plus a lot of the villains in DC even have some level of understanding such as Mr. Freeze, or even in justice league unlimited with Flash talking to Trickster, you see an actual heart to heart moment between to humans with one struggling with something any viewer could be going through.
Funny how older Spiderman who was an inspiring character was so beloved and now new spiderman who is "relatable" ( miserable) is absolutely hated
That's very valid argument.
And I agree with you.
Definitely bro, plus Marvel characters don't have that kind of psychology that make them interesting.
My favourite hero in general is Spider-Man but Batman is no2 in my tier list simply because of how cold he is
If Doctor strange never inspired you to never lose hope then i dont know what will
i don't get "inspired" by fictional characters cause im not a child. when reading a story i want compelling characters and stories not "icons of goodness" or whatever
Honestly I feel like the only guy who likes them equally and often imagine what if both worlds are in the same universe
Superman snapped Zod’s neck and cried right afterwards because he just presumably killed the last of his kind in self defense. Whether or not you’re inspired by that scene isn’t the point, it’s that Kal had to make the choice to save his people even if it was hard.
Yes, this guy right. After this video I remembered that I understood why the killing is bad from a moral point of view, not only from a logical after reading some dc comics and watching some dc cartoons.
I like Marvel more then DC, but the one thing I like about DC is the fact that they inspire people, like what this persons said, and that there are vigilante superheroes that actually kill people, like Batman and the Arrow. Also, some MCU heroes inspire, like Captain America kind of inspires people
From the very beginning the whole point of superheroes was to inspire and uplift people. Not make them feel relatable. Thats something DC has always done far more better. I'd rather be inspired then try to relate to a factious character. You can only relate so much to a certain point. Plus DC's main supreheroes all have a certain aurora around them that makes them these big powerful titans yet extremely emphatic for the ordinary people.
While Henry Cavill is a great actor they never let him be the light he is supposed to be.
To do the right thing, always.
And they didn't give enough Clark time. He is also Superman. Showing how to be a good human without powers
I'm inspired by Peter & Miles.
I…like inspiration as well; that’s why I prefer to see superheroes using their powers for things like rescue missions rather than constantly using it for fighting villains. Perfect example of this would be “Spider-Man”, (2002). Imagine the Green Goblin out of the story, Spider-Man was using his powers to save people, and while it was never mentioned in the entire trilogy, Spider-Man became a symbol of Hope to people (Peter Parker literally said this in TASM 2), during…hard time. Has anyone noticed that an event that occurred a year before Spider-Man (2002), was never mentioned, but could be considered a part of the plot.
I can see that, but tbh i prefer inspirational characters. I get more inspired than i do relate to comic characters.
Although I prefer marvel I feel the same way as you. I want heroes who inspire me to be better not someone who would do exactly what I would do with all the mistakes.
Well. If Marvel and DC would Stop rivalry, they would make perfect superhero comicbooks
Absolutely! Good stuff! They rushed so much with the DC movies to catch up to marvel, but most of the characters in the avengers had their own movies and had their world built up! Wish the animated guys at dc made the movies, cause they're Absolutely phenomenal! Also, you got the incredible animated universe that started with batman the animated series! One of the best shows ever made! One of my favorites! 😅😁👍🏻
There's I believe a saying about DC and Marvel.
"Marvel is about man trying to be gods, DC is about gods trying to be man."
I could be wrong or got it wrong but that's basically the idea.
Well…that actually makes sense.
I like the DCAU y’all can’t lie most of DC’s animated shows and Movies are awesome
I love the DCEU !definitely inspired me
Think you may have hit the nail on the head on why these DC movies arent coming out right.
I kinda agree
But when it comes to some DC heroes I just get pissed off by their stories
Like when Batman won’t kill his villains yet her tortures them near to death
I thought spider man and daredevil were meant to inspire but they’re probably the only ones in that context
Spot on.
The dceu was a total mess.
The movie were midocre and they literally thought it was a good idea to butcher what Batman's and Superman's characters stand for.
It really pisses me off the most as a long time fan.
It baffles me how they could mess it up considering they had experience from the DCAU, which was a near perfect connected universe that ran for 15 years.
BTAS is easily one of the best animated series ever.
I'm optimistic about Gunn's rebooted universe.
Really hope these beloved iconic characters actually act like themselves.
The easy medium is the X-Men, who are both relatable and inspiring.
Makes sense, but i dont think superman is really inspiring since hes turned evil a few times but the others are pretty inspiring
I love the MCU despite having no interest in Marvel prior to the Ironman movies. It's a real shame that they couldn't make the DC movies work as well. But I think their cartoon universe is actually pretty great so maybe DC should try leaning more into animated movies rather than live actions
My side always a strong and smart overfill so that’s I’m a Dc fan🦁🔥💯
I'd say everyone can relate to batman and his struggle with himself, even tho he is "at peace with himself" it's struggle everyday to maintain that peace he fights everyday to let himself take the easy way out of his problems he fights everyday to control the monster inside and I'd say we all face that struggle every single day and sure for some of us it's an easier fight than it is for others we all still have that fight it's simply human nature
Although you have valid critiques about the DCEU, from Snyder's perspective, I think he wanted to take a more nuance approach with the superhero genre of movies and portray superheroes in a different light, that of which is the now popularized trope of "anti-heroism." It's understandable that many fans of DC would object to the themes of anti-heroism portrayed in the movies because that was never the focal nor popular theme of DC, but you should try to look at some of the more prominent aspects of what the film is attempting to convey rather than nitpick certain characteristics or traits of characters that don't appeal to your liking of a character. After watching the Snyder's cut, it is obvious that much of what he wanted to convey has been altered, but the message of each movie is still somewhat inspirational depending on how you take it; everything is just not as black and white as you would have liked as portrayed in comics.
Bro is inspired by a guy that beats people up while dressing as a bat
Bro needs to direct the DC movies from now on
Men are Brave
~ BATMAN🦇
I feel like you kind of just proved why Spider-Man and Batman are the best superheroes of all time. They do both. Batman and spiderman inspires you to do the right thing a persevere while also showing relatability with there problems. Even tho batmans a billionaire he still has very human problems everyone can relate to. And I don’t even have to speak on why Spider-Man’s relatable. I also think super hero’s like daredevil, the flash, and in some cases superman fit this description as well. I still can’t honestly pick a verse I like more. But I definitely like the atmosphere of dc more. But tbh I would like to just grab my favorite marvel characters and put them in the dc universe because I would like that so much more. Imagine Spider-Man, daredevil, and the punisher were in dc.
Imo. Spider-Man (Peter Parker) is most relatable and in same time one of most inspiring heroes.
I think Superman and The Flash (Barry Allen), especially in the comics, are *amazing* characters
I agree. DC characters are characters we all love, but if I were a superhero I would probably be like Marvel characters.
Superman makes people feel worse abt them as they see someone so perfect that they can't become while thor is really powerful but he is still broken so the people watch him cause they relate and they grow up watching him become stronger and better
Should have hired a combo of Timmverse writers and DCAU writers for the DC's new cinematic universe.
I think Superman is a lot more relateable than Ironman. Though Ironman and Spiderman are my top two favorite Marvel characters. Superman might be an alien, with a whole bunch of super abilities that make him God-like, but I think the beauty in his character mythos is that he's a immigrant, with all these gifts that strives to always do the right thing no matter how hard. He also knows he needs to put limits on himself even though he knows he has the power to do things to do the easy way but does it the hard way because its the right thing to do.
If WB didn’t mess with Snyder we would’ve gotten a perfect dark universe where we get to see the characters grow into who they are in the comics
The dceu movies are grittier and I kind of Liked that. I would’ve loved to see what happens in those justice league movies but oh well 🤷🏽♂️
