Enjoyed watching your attitude change midway through driving it. This same thing happened to me, went in to test the Passat and this caught my eye on the way out of the dealership. I really think I'm going to buy one. It's like an updated Subaru wagon from the mid 80s.
I see a lot of the Alltrack & Sportwagens here in Québec, it'll be a shame if VW pulls the plug on them for the North American market with the Mk8 Golf. The number of wagons available has decreased this year, this being a solid contender still.
Thank you for the review, just found one that was bought in summer 2020, so there is 47 months and 57000 miles left on the bumper to bumper, its a find.
I heard recently that the Mk 8 Golf may only come stateside in the GTI and R versions as VW may not bring over the basic Golf and Sportwagen versions! That would be a shame!
We read the same thing while we were editing this one for publish. That seems to be VW's current position on the Golf brand, according to them most of the vehicles they sell in North America are GTI/R anyway. I must have spotted hundreds of Alltrack/SportWagens during my week with this car though, so either Quebecois buy disproportionately more wagons than the rest of North America, or VW is just looking to bring another cost-saving measure to this continent.
@@PRNTestDrive The CUV and SUV market continues to grown, the sedan market shrinks, and "mystery" cars like the regular Golf or Sportwagen are not selling. VW is still hanging in with several sedans in North America and should eventually bring in the 8th gen GTI & R Golf from Germany. I expect the Alltrack to continue in the snow areas were VW has a good market, but it looks like the regular Golf and Sportwagen are leaving the NA market. VW will return in force as they crank up their hybrid and EV models. The UK and Europeans are going to be a big market for EV. US and Canada, not so much, except in crowded cities.
Nice review. Glad I don't have to have an Alltrack in southern US, but seems like a great vehicle for the snow belt. It would be nice if they made these so you could switch to front wheel drive only when there is no snow or ice and get better gas mileage.
That would be a good option! I don’t believe it’s a full-time AWD system like most crossovers, but even at slower speeds on nice roads a manual override would be nice for fuel economy.
You do have that option even in the base model s. Under the mode button you can switch the drive train. Eco, normal, sport, off road. You also have more detailed adjustments all from your display. I love my base model Alltrack s and she pulls power too. I highly recommend not getting the se or sel as the pano roof has had issues. The base model doesn’t feel generic.
Hmm I've been looking on VWs website and I'm pretty sure another main difference between Alltrack and Sportwagon is the Alltrack also gets a turbocharged 1.8l engine with the 168hp and the Sportwagon gets a 2.0l 147 hp non turbo. I'm sure that's part of the price difference too. I would be quite happy to own an Alltrack, will definitely look out for one in the future. Even as a single guy who just likes to go kayaking and skiing while occasionally hauling friends it seems like a good ride. Used to hate wagons but nowadays they actually make them look decent and they are an antidote to samey crossovers. I'd love an Audi A4 Allroad or a Volvo V60 Polestar too.
Might be different in your market, but here in Canada the SportWagen can be configured with a 1.4L or this 1.8L engine on either trim, whereas the Alltrack only has one engine option.
I own a 2018 top spec Alltrack. Really love this vehicle. Would be perfect if it had cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. Save those options for Audi I guess.
How about a more affordable AWD golf Sportwagen. I have a '15 SE golf Sportwagen fwd but I live in Pacific Northwest. Less weight, less maintenance as it's fwd. Alltrack is about 400 lbs heavier and Sportwagen 4 motion is about 200 lbs heavier than than a fwd Sportwagen. That weight does effect performance.
My 2018 alltrack is slightly different than this . I live in europe and i have got electronic hand brake on it plus headlights adjustment level is not on that wheel button but from the lights menu on the infotainment plus mine is 2.0 tdi
In 2015 I wanted a wagon so I bought my new 2015 se auto 6sd Sportwagen tsi for 27k through Costco. 17" rims, push start, keyless entry, Fender audio, panoramic sunroof that doesn't leak..lol. I have gotten 39 mpg on road trip. Great handling with front wheel drive, traction, limited slip. Less things to break and lower maintenance on reg Sportwagen. My wife if from Quebec so we may have wanted awd if we lived there..lol I have never seen so much salt on roads and I didn't slip one time on hwys in fwd cars there in winter, neighborhoods yes..lol Cheers
Great review - seems liked you were really impressed by the handling of the Alltrack. I have been looking for a non-crossover that has sporty handling but practical storage. This, the Kia stinger, and the new Vw Arteon look attractive. The stinger is obviously more sporty handling, but given the reality of the public roads we drive in NA, I wonder if the ability to gain the most out of the handling of the stinger, compared to the Alltrack, is worth the premium cost in both purchase and then fuel consumption. Would love your thoughts on impresses of the Alltrack vs stinger. Just as your u did with the Tiguan, a comparison of the Alltrack and the Arteon would also be interesting.
We’re planning to film the Arteon this week, press fleet doesn’t have an ETA on it but we’ve been invited by our local VW dealer to come back and film the Arteon and Jetta GLI. Could certainly be an interesting comparison, I’ll see what I can do!
What do you think of the 2019 VW Alltrack vs the 2019 Kia Sorento vs the 2019 Subaru Forester? I noticed that you reviewed the Kia Sorento EX and the Subaru Forester Sport recently as well. They are different but they are all in about the same price range and all three can be competing AWD models for our consumer dollars. Which would you buy?
Definitely different vehicles, that's for sure! The Sorento we did is actually a long-term vehicle, we're getting close to wrapping up our 24,000km period with the EX V6 we had. It's not a bad choice at all, we've always liked the Sorento when it comes to a mid-size three-row crossover. If you don't need to fit more than 4 people my choice would be the Golf SportWagen, the Alltrack is fun but you can save a bit by getting essentially the same car in the SportWagen variant.
@@PRNTestDrive Here is the US, we have the option of the base Alltrack which doesn't feel entry level for MSRP $26,895 USD. Here the Sportwagen comes with 6 speed auto vs the DSG on the Alltrack. Definitely a consideration but the Sorento is more car with the V6 and AWD. Forester Sport like the one you previewed, not as fun as the Alltrack but more room inside. That's why I suggest it's tough call between the 3 of them.
Super vidéo, j'aime vraiment le look de ce véhicule. Toutefois ente une GTI et la AllTrack je n'arrive pas à me décider. Plaisir ou le côté pratique + 4motion... Je pense que le 4 motion va me faire penchez AllTrack
My 2019 VW Alltrack was purchased from a VW dealer in 2021 with 7,755 miles on it. It now has 29,400 miles on it. The sunroof’s drains were clogged, and leaked into the headliner and rear hatch carpeting. VW Manhattan says this will cost me $5,900. This car is still under warranty and is covered under the extended sunroof warranty, as well as being one of the models included in the class action lawsuit mentioned above. I have taken this car for all of its regularly scheduled maintenance as recommended by VW. I called VW USA and they are telling me that they consider leakage due to clogged drains to be a maintenance issue and they will not cover the damage. This is outrageous.
@@PRNTestDrive Ended up taking the car to be repaired at an independent mechanic. I took Manhattan VW to small claims court and got most of the diagnostic fee back.
I wish you could still buy a wagon in the US. Apparently "Americans like huge trucks and SUVs" grrrr I've got a 2011 Sportwagen and a 2018 Alltrack. Gotta hold onto them.
Then what would you call it? The definition of a dual clutch transmission is an automated manual dual clutch. I think most people would agree it’s an accurate way to call it.
Nice, a 10 second car! Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda Civic's with spoon engines. On top of that he just came into Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbo's with NOS's and a Motec System Exhaust.
Thanks! We always hope people click those thumbs up/thumbs down buttons based on our actual presentation of the vehicles, and not voting on the vehicles themselves 😛
You're not the first to say that! We've had a number of people mention the same thing when we had it a couple weeks back. I think the new Jetta has a good look to it, and personally makes sense as a wagon to me.
Great review !!
We’re glad you like it!

In the states, they’re practically giving them away now. Can get an dsg sel for like 30k
$30k USD seems pricey still.
