Chad Daybell’s Attorney Doubles Down on Innocence of 'Doomsday Prophet' in Closing Argument

- Chad Daybell’s defense attorney, John Prior, gave his closing argument on Wednesday afternoon, explaining to the jury why he believes his client is innocent of the multiple murders, including those of his wife Tammy and Lori Vallow’s two young children, JJ and Tylee. Prior stated, “You don't have to believe what he says, but he has a right to talk about it" in regards to his bizarre religious beliefs. He also tells the jury that he believes that there isn’t any solid evidence that Daybell wanted to kill the children and his wife.

The evidence shows he is guilty
The court needs to send a message about perjuring yourself in a court of law, both his kids who lied under oath need to face consequences otherwise what is the point of even having a perjury law on the books.
The kids needs to be held accountable.

Maybe Chub was hoping Garth could be blamed for Tammy's murder since Chub had managed to not be around when Garth discovered his dead mother.

No written agreement...just the two bodies in his back yard, a healthy wife who "just died" asphyxiated with bruises. John Gacy would've walked away too if we use Prior's logic.

Mr. Prior is doing his job and I understand that. But lying to the jury about them not having a plan for killing Tammy and the kids is NOT TRUE! THEY DID HAVE A PLAN AND THEY FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH THEIR PLAN, AND HE DESERVES THE DEATH PENALTY FOR IT . I'M ALSO LDS(MORMON) AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CHAD AND LORI HAVE SAID I HAVE NOT HEARD OF, SO IT'S NOT SOMETHING I AM FAMILIAR WITH. I think that is something that they have added to the things like the "zombies" our church doesn't believe in them either. Chad and Lori made up the things about them also. I don't believe anything that Emma said in her testimony either.
There’s too much evidence against him. Just because they didn’t say the word “kill” does not mean they didn’t refer to it. It was their plan to be together. It’s too coincidental that that many people died. They are all guilty! It’s too bad Alex didn’t live to face accountability. Chad lied over and over about where the kids were. He knew the truth. His guilt shows 100% on the phone call with Lori as they were digging bodies. If you didn’t know bodies were there you’d be screaming why are you here? What are you looking for and he would say that to Lori on the phone I don’t know why in God‘s name they’re digging up the backyard. That’s because he knew they were there. Not once do any of these people say he’s innocent his own lawyer doesn’t even say he’s innocent. If I didn’t know, bodies were in my backyard and police were digging I wouldn’t be hiding in my car. I’d be in the backyard helping them dig or asking what they’re looking for.
I think Prior is doing his best with a really difficult case. He is trying so hard to introduce some reasonable doubt. But, if I was on the jury, there is such weight of evidence on the side of conviction, you would have to be irrational and illogical to think there was enough doubt. Prior is really putting up a defense, not going down easily.
I feel like he could have done a far better job by just behaving respectfully in court, both to the witnesses and the judge and prosecution. When a lawyer defending a suspected murderer behaves that way, it diminishes the credibility of their entire case. The fact that there's so much evidence showing how guilty Chad is only makes Prior's behavior that much more detrimental.
He's too arrogant and smug to be taken very seriously and that's not the guy I would want defending me if I was sitting in Chad's place right now.

Unfortunately, I think Prior was so detestable during this case that the jury members must very much dislike him. Bad move. Chad and prior are both very unlike able.
He's very condescending and has truly acted like the jury were teenagers or something. He'd look at them like they weren't understanding what he was saying! I'm sure they felt it too. He tried his best to keep them confused and THEN would look at the one giving testimony, back to the jury like they were absolutely supposed to only believe the BS he was spewing. He'd change subjects and forget where he left off or started just for confusion. JMO

Completely agree! If the parkland school shooter didn't get the DP, no one will. I honestly think jurors lie through their teeth when agreeing they could convict with punishment of death if evidence proves him guilty.

It takes a spineless ale cynical specimen to take a defendant's house/property for a defense which is deemed to fail.
Prosecution did a fabulous job laying out all the entire case in timelines like a big map. After all that evidence, it's ridiculous for the defense to continue saying Chad is innocent. Seems anything would be better, even an insanity plea.

Prior knows his client is guilty, but he can’t state that or infer it so basically his only goal is to keep his client off death row.
This might make me unpopular but I actually like Defense Attorney Pryor’s voice - nice to listen to (the sound of it, not what he’s saying).
But I completely believe he’s guilty enough for the DP. Bringing Chad’s kids into this to lie for him - that’s unforgivable of Chad. I just like Pryor’s voice.
I'm rather fond of his and the judge's rhythmic accents. Somewhat of a dusty, smokey, surfer-ush something or another. Definitely easy to hear AND listen to. 🤷🏼♀️
