My cousin used to live just behind the walls of Clark Airbase. My cousins were there during the volcano eruption and succeeding downpour of ash. Taxes in the Philippines is not like here in the US. So whatever ur retirement money ur receiving, in the Philippines u will live a good life
That’s not true Jeff because I bought an empty lot and had my house built. I had to go to the local municipality Assessor’s office and a couple of the employees came to my house and measured my property and my house. Then went back to the Assessor’s office and she told me how much my property tax was. Robocop is right that if you pay in January you get 20% discount
He is definitely sorted out and has planned extremely well! I especially like the plan to forward the years worth of money ahead, no stress, reduce atm, bank fees, etc. Brilliant!. Please have him back!!!!
Smart move conducting your transactions via a local bank. ATMs and local credit card are very convenient. I've been transferring cash to BDO, PNB and BPI for paying local bills and withdraw cash when I'm in the Phil for 20 plus years and have never had a problem. Those people that think Philippine banks are about to go bankrupt or will steal your money are basing their views from gossip or the odd bank issues which everyone experiences in every country.
Warrior did it right. He also has tricare international for healthcare…and maybe the VA. Love their house (why not buy if he’s been married for years). That 401k might have to be on the back burner for more than 5 years with this dive 🤦🏻♂️💸 I’ll be following him. He has a plan
Cebu can be crowded but you may already know that, renting condo and exploring is a wise choice. FInd the ideal location for you then bed down. You will naturally spend more your first few months in the Philippines and then your budget will adjust as your learn to navigate expenses here.
How can an individual or couple create connections other than just for dating? I recently saw a video by a lonely young man who regularly visited a cafe where staff were close to his age so he could make friends there. He also regularly went to events at a particular church even though he told the people there he was not religious, just wanted to make friends. Are expat groups and other organizations good for this? How do you quickly and inexpensively prepare your lunches and dinners from home? How do you keep them cool enough to avoid spoilage? What are your go to recipes? Where do you sit to eat meals from home? Isn't dinner more expensive so a bigger savings if you bring from home?
Nice interview..I also live in Dau. Great place you have. I have a house in a gated, subd,, 300sqm floor area. Semi furnished. If someone there needs to rent it's available now. 😊
Ah yes, I do miss the pizza and a good steak and cheese. We do have a great pizza place here in Angeles City called Biggies but steak and cheese I have to make myself
So they spend $1200-$2000, but that amount is without a rent amount included since they own, correct ? So if they had say a $400/month rent payment they are at $1600-$2400. Sounds like they do pretty much anything they want to on that amount….not skimping on anything.

One thing good about rentals here in Philippines, the owners/landlords will let you customize them pretty much the way you want because they know it will rent better if you ever leave.
Yes Tricare Overseas, you have a yearly deductible, the hospital I go to Medical City Clark tracks all of that and does paperwork for me. Stuff that isn't covered at the hospital like Physical therapy you have to send in your bills for reimbursement. I haven't done it yet so not exactly sure how much you get back
Retired military so I have Tricare Overseas which comes out of my military retirement automatically at $33 a month but has deductibles when you use it.
Great question jo cunningham, I have one report where I explain what I do about health care and another where I show you how I search for health insurance. What I do about health care: vagabondbuddha.com/two-biggest-risks-of-retiring-early-overseas/ Report where I search for health insurance: vagabondbuddha.com/best-health-insurance-for-ex-pats-in-philippines/ By the way, once you search for health care you will start seeing more offers for health insurance and travelers insurance when you are online. Health insurance is one of the most dynamic or changing industries in the travel world because so many people around the world are deciding to live or retire outside their home country. So do a search every year before you renew to make sure you have the best available for your personal circumstances because new ones come out every few months. Thanks for asking so I could answer this for many people! Dan

“Service in the States sucks”? This guy should visit Europe and wait for more than an hour for lunch at a restaurant before making such service related generalizations. 😀
I am "this guy" and I have been to Europe, it isn't always about the pace, it's more the attitude of most service workers in the US who give you mediocre service and expect a tip. Service in Philippines is slow but I will take it over majority of dining establishments in the US
@@FOCUSonASIA13 Well, the reason the service sucks in Europe is because it doesn’t have the same “tipping culture” as the US. If you are tipping despite not getting service then there’s a problem. Perhaps you should visit a little bit less known parts of Europe where you are not only not going to get service but would be asked why you were bothering the person who is supposed to serve you. 😀 I don’t know much about South Carolina but I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina for a while. The service there was better.

I had to go to the local municipality Assessor’s office and a couple of the employees came to my house and measured my property and my house. Then went back to the Assessor’s office and she told me how much my property tax was. Robocop is right that if you pay in January you get 20% discount
Excellent interview!!
He is definitely sorted out and has planned extremely well! I especially like the plan to forward the years worth of money ahead, no stress, reduce atm, bank fees, etc. Brilliant!. Please have him back!!!!

Minimalist house. Great place to relax. I'm guessing you had more stuff in the US
Oh yes, we sold just about everything in the states and try to live minimally
We are in South Carolina for 6-8 more months, but at least starting in Mexico ( San Cristobal de las Casas ).
Very true words Robocop

Warrior did it right. He also has tricare international for healthcare…and maybe the VA. Love their house (why not buy if he’s been married for years). That 401k might have to be on the back burner for more than 5 years with this dive 🤦🏻♂️💸

Meeting people is the same all over the world. :-)
How do you think Bongbong will be for the Philippines in regards to retiring there?
Not really into politics.
I say I am Boston MA.
I did live in Athol MA. About 1 1/2 Hours to the West of Boston in a car.
Funny how we do that, folk from MA area tend to say Boston as their home
Nice interview..I also live in Dau. Great place you have. I have a house in a gated, subd,, 300sqm floor area. Semi furnished. If someone there needs to rent it's available now. 😊
I grew up in Lawrence-CCHS-Prospect Hill! Miss the subs-pizza-Italian bread!

With rent I think that window you gave would be great, just depends on your lifestyle and where you want to live
Can he add solar energy to his home?
Probably. I didn't ask.
Very nice 👍🏽

do you know of a good Mexican restaurant in Angles City? if so what is the name and how can I find it?
I am living in San Simon Pampanga near Apolit,. thank you.
Good tacos can be had a pineapple coast in Angeles. Closest thing you will get to Mexican tacos. I have a video on it on my channel. Do not believe the hype given to Tequila Reef, it is average for Mexican food but great breakfast
@@FOCUSonASIA13 thank you we will give it a try, in my area there is no good places to get Mexican food or American food. I thought sence the American bace was there so long that would be my best chance to find them.

When you own your home you can invest in it and have it as you like. Rentals you take as is and it’s just never yours.
One thing good about rentals here in Philippines, the owners/landlords will let you customize them pretty much the way you want because they know it will rent better if you ever leave.

What about medical? Does TRICARE cover? Reimburse? Mail from US? VA?
Yes Tricare Overseas, you have a yearly deductible, the hospital I go to Medical City Clark tracks all of that and does paperwork for me. Stuff that isn't covered at the hospital like Physical therapy you have to send in your bills for reimbursement. I haven't done it yet so not exactly sure how much you get back
You didn’t ask about health care

I didn't hear health insurance???? Did I miss it?
Retired military so I have Tricare Overseas which comes out of my military retirement automatically at $33 a month but has deductibles when you use it.
Great question jo cunningham, I have one report where I explain what I do about health care and another where I show you how I search for health insurance.
What I do about health care: vagabondbuddha.com/two-biggest-risks-of-retiring-early-overseas/
Report where I search for health insurance: vagabondbuddha.com/best-health-insurance-for-ex-pats-in-philippines/
By the way, once you search for health care you will start seeing more offers for health insurance and travelers insurance when you are online. Dan
You gotta love the Philippines, you can have your dream girl. What little you may have is a fortune here, a hot girl is happy to get a new cell phone. So many happy expats here.
Would concern me to have such large amount in BDO. Don’t know if it’s still the same but some BDO are franchise could go broke and you lost your money.
BDO franchise?
BDO is the biggest bank in the Philippines. The owner of SM malls own BDO. I don't think banks can be franchised in the Philippines. Where did you get that rumor?
BDO is largest bank in Philippines but do some research to see what would work best for you

@@BalkanMode Agree it all depends on location. Nothing compares to Japan though
@@FOCUSonASIA13 I don’t know much about Japan. Do you mean the service is very good?

How can you buy a house in PI? In your Wife's name?
Foreigner can now buy and own a property in the philippines..as the new bill has been passed to liberalized the economy! But make sure to visit the local or municipal land registry to authenticate the deal.

In both of our names but yes as far as I know you have to have Filipina spouse to buy house/land. We have been married over 30 years so our situation different than a newlywed couple
@@commonsenseisntcommon1776 Foreigners cannot own land in the Philippines. But foreigners indeed can own 100% of the company in more industries now than before. What I'm not sure is if that 100% foreign owned company can buy land in the Philippines. If it's allowed, then you have found the loophole on how to buy a land in the Philippines.
