One thing I never understood. Wouldn't shenjis bankai complelty mess up aziens? His inverted world does not target enemies in bankai form. It's simple an area of affect. Which means azien would be hit by it. Regardless of shenji being under hypnosis or not.
He would be hit by it but so would all the other captains in the area at the time causing them to start fighting each other which is why he didnt use it in that fight. Its also why his bankai is banned in the seireitei. Also aizen doesnt have a bankai :)

Since he was a captain, and captains have to have a bankai, he could have one but my guess is that he wouldve shown the council a "fake bankai" since no one knew what his zanpakuto truly was until he betrayed the gotei. His main strength comes from him being very smart and having insane reiatsu.
