I had the priviledge to have mr Hinds as a teacher maybe 10 years ago for a term. From that moment on he was and is my biggest guitar hero. He plays truly beautifuly and speaks through his guitar. He's pretty unknown which is a bit mindblowing. I remember I could just sit and listen to his playing. All the small nuances he makes truly speaks music.
This is what gets me about this YT channel. These guys are unknown, and pretty much unheard by the masses. The world is overflowing with craptastic noise fobbed off as music and these two masters have to be sought out or just tossed at you randomly by You Tube's algorithm.
Allen's playing is the antithesis of Pete Thorn's. Allen's moves with such efficiency-- even though I'm watching on a 30" monitor it is tough to follow exactly what his fingers are doing. Proving [only] that there is no right way. Great vid Tim, Allen. Thanks for posting.
Allen is the most unique phraser I have heard in a longtime. He has a technical approach that doesn't sound technical over musical. Everything he plays seems to fit real nicely together. Same goes for his slide playing. He leaves you wanting to hear more.
The essence of taste, Allen is the best. Listen to his solo albums and his band Wonderland Park, not well known but mind blowing guitar and above all beautiful compositions
This may sound weird Allen is so good and a real joy seeing someone to use his pinky so much. He definitely makes you feel like you haven't learned nothing......Very Nice,....please don't take it in a bad way.
AH's playing tricks your brain i to guessing and anticipating the next unconventional change and the find great satisfaction and a bit of relief when resolves only to engage you again in an unconventional but melodic journey... Quite a pleasurable experience !
I've become a real fan of Allen's since he was on your channel last. Fly South, Falling Up and Monkeys and Slides have become heavy in my music rotation. Really great stuff.
Tim's videos are once again detaining my honey-do list..(Wife is furious) Allen is so smooth and quick. His talent rivals the best in the industry. WOW.. Allen Holdsworth licks played a bit slow,so maybe I now In learn some LOL !!
Tim,I noticed that you thumb the pick when using your fingers and Allen pinches it between his index and middle fingers. Is there a reason or style where one is more advantageous then the other? Was it something that just happened over time?
You probably know this already, Joshua. But Allen's Fender Esquire looks like it has the standard one piece maple neck. The vintage 1950s era Telecasters and Esquires (a single pickup Telecaster) usually had Ash bodies and Maple necks.
It probably has a pickup which can be wired to give different outputs. One switch position hotter/louder than the other. In another switch position he may bypass the tone control, which gives yet another sound. I have a Telecaster wired in a similar way. Though it does't sound as wonderful as Allen's guitar does. Lol
A bit of a bold statement Joey! Apparently you never got to listen to Ted Greene, Amos Garrett or Tim Lerch. And they didn't commit suicide...but maybe you can help me finding out who "lots of those" are...

Every time I hear and watch one of Allen Hind's videos, I feel compelled to go maple neck, single coil. So sweet!!
The essence of taste, Allen is the best. Listen to his solo albums and his band Wonderland Park, not well known but mind blowing guitar and above all beautiful compositions
The melody and note choices at around 8 mins is really nice. Two legends in a room!
Another level all together... Complex yet full of beautiful and rich melodies that pull you right in and along for a journey !
Damn, Allen is so amazing with all the theory and the way he explains it...
Excellent video! Allen is wonderful! Can’t stop listening or watching him. Thanks for this video! 👏
So beautifully melodic. What a truly a fabulous video!

Wild stuff over a two-chord vamp. Thanks, Tim. Thanks, Allen. Your back and forth helped me begin to wrap my ears around it.
Very nice technique, lovely chord based structures. Real Melody not just notes. Thanks for your posting.
Beautiful and tasteful playing from Mr. Hinds. Wow! Thank you for this video!
You guys are awesome. "It's all I know" he says, no way! There is so much in there the mind boggles.

be sure to check out Wonderland Park - a wonderful, fun trio CD with Allen.
Just viewed this vid. Amazing Allen. I'm an instant fan!
Like a Jeff Beck with "music theory" knowledge.

Man I needed that. I want more.
My guitar doesn't have those notes.

Your comment was right on ... would make a great quote for a T-shirt!
Ha ha same

Hi Tim' what's the guitar cable Allen is using?
so much feel gah damn
Tim,I noticed that you thumb the pick when using your fingers and Allen pinches it between his index and middle fingers. Is there a reason or style where one is more advantageous then the other? Was it something that just happened over time?
Nice man 👍🏼
What guitar cable is Allen using here? Thanks.
Great video. Is there anyone with a lighter/better touch than Allen? :)
10-46 if he hasn't switched recently. :)
Yep! Allan Holdsworth... 😄
I would have suggested Allan Holdsworth but he is sadly no longer with us..
2:05 thought that was fire coming out of his pick his playing was so hot
I'll be busy for the next 30 years getting this down.
FantasticOH!
Does anyone know what kind of wood the neck on Allen's tele is made out of?
You probably know this already, Joshua. But Allen's Fender Esquire looks like it has the standard one piece maple neck. The vintage 1950s era Telecasters and Esquires (a single pickup Telecaster) usually had Ash bodies and Maple necks.
The peoples Key lol!
Great video.
THE captain meets
what is the les paul style guitar with the "pedals" on it?
Randallkoller It’s a vintage Gibson Melody Maker.
Chris Lester It’s a B and G bender on a les Paul
What does the switch do on a one p/u tele?
It probably has a pickup which can be wired to give different outputs. One switch position hotter/louder than the other. In another switch position he may bypass the tone control, which gives yet another sound. I have a Telecaster wired in a similar way. Though it does't sound as wonderful as Allen's guitar does. Lol
Hes a monster
Allen's fingers look like they're making love to the fretboard. It's almost obscene ;-)
So musical. He basically is telling us to play music on the guitar and to stop being so mechanical. That's damn hard to do.
Allan Holdsworth
Damn. What is hip? THAT is hip.
that's all i know""""'¶,,,,,,,
Single coil Telecasters are so harsh. I don't get it. I don't care who plays them. Lots of those committed suicide and think there is a connection.
+Zach Bingham did you watch the video at all?
A bit of a bold statement Joey! Apparently you never got to listen to Ted Greene, Amos Garrett or Tim Lerch. And they didn't commit suicide...but maybe you can help me finding out who "lots of those" are...
+Charles Hoernemann Joey plays a trollacaster.
WTF Allen is playing????? WTF
