So right in the beginning something goes wrong with everyones ear mix (this is that piece that goes in the ear to keep the temp and so they can communicate with each other). Because of this the drummer is playing the song a little bit faster than he should, but may not realize. Then Robin Finks lead guitars volume was never adjusted by the sound engineer, they kept it the same from the previous song, thats why it sounds louder. Axl realizes this and tries to talk to either Robin or the mix engineer but then realizes that his ear mix cable has come off and can't talk to anyone or hear the tempo timer. 1:18 he shows the ear mix cable to the engineering assistant but he doesn't go for some reason, then Axl gets frustrated and motions him to get to him and plug it back in. You can see Axl focusing real hard to maintain in key and pitch and he does so nearly flawlessly. At 2:05 Axl's microphone volume is too low so he increases it however it does nothing. 2:24 Meanwhile, Robin's lead guitar volume is so low that you can barely hear it. At 2:27 Axl motions to the sound engineer or assistant engineer to lower volume of the entire band. For some reason Robins guitar gets max volume and Axl motions the sound engineer to stop adjusting the volume, hence he says "ok, nervermind". The entire band realized that the solo was not going to play and they all skipped it without skipping a beat. This to me shows how well the band is together. 2:58 Axl walks off to talk to the engineer, I can only imagine what he told him. Meanwhile Robins guitar volume still has issues but is better. The bands volume is a lot more stable now that Axl went back there. At 4:01 you can see him still trying to mix his microphones volume and he starts to sound off key. 4:45 from here to the end is starts to sing flat. 5:06 you can see his frustration. It may not have been the ideal performance for the band but this is one of my favorite performances.

2001, omg i didn't know that this song already existed back than. What the fuck took Axl so long to release this album. By the way, i really like this song. I think it's one of his best work. It could easily be measured to the old guns standards. Vocals in the end, especially in the studio version are just heavenly with that high pitch voice, no one can do this so great, except Axl. And Finck's solo is just amazing. People buy the record and don't just download it. Support the band.

I got a hold of this gig on a bootleg VHS tape back in 2001. When I first heard this song I actually thought it was very much in the same vein as Estranged or November Rain. They changed the arrangement a bit for the album version, I always liked this version better. The song is still great though..

I can't help being shocked by Robin's constant image change: here he was going through his "mummy returns" phase...which really freaked the hell out of me!! I think his subsequent "Chewbacca" image was an slight improvement...
This show took place in Brazil (in Rio - many years after Gnr's historic 1988 Rock in Rio 2 performance). This was a great show - I watched it onTV. This is the best song from the Chinese Democracy album (in my opinion). And from 2:28 to 2:36 Axl was complaing of technical problems on his microphone. Surprisingly he behaved in an almost polite way. I don't know why people complain about Axl's behaviour. He was completely nuts from the get go , yet the guy is brilliant.

I think Axle is an exceptionally respectable person. Firstly he hasnt let all the critisism that hes faced stop him, secondly his vocals are flawless in CD, thirdlly he is one amazing songwriter. Hes just an all round amazing musician - who else can modernise spanish classical guitar (if the world)? I personally admire his relentless persuit for perfection - thats what pissed everyone off
Totally agree Belone1976 , this is by far the est version of the song, piano, guitar solo and drums, not to mention the speed of the song is all great here, it appears to slow on the album. And call me crazy, but I like the tone of his voice her, fits well with a song like the blues, yeah that's right, I like the original name too.

Dude, you should know this stuff.. Duff & Matt both left G'NR too, they're currently in the band Velvet Revolver, along with Slash and Dave. But Velvet Revolver is on a singer search hiatus right now, so Duff is busying himself with a side project band called Loaded
Now I realized how much was Slash and how much was Axl GN'R. Now Velvet Revolver has all that energy and punch - essence of Slash and GN'R have that "art", all that perfection - essence of Axl... Now I've finally understood why were GN'R the best group of 80' and 90' and why aren't anymore.
