    Dave Plummer Documentary by @Endermanch - ruclips.net/video/ENQNG85sXRs/видео.html - Goes over all the software Dave created in the 2000s, which I removed a bunch of his junk unbeknownst to me. Even though Endermanch was roasting the poor design, he didn't see in its entirety because the adware servers were taken down. It was actually MUCH worse with popups happening all the time!

      @@simpleprogrammingcodes the folks who'll publically say anything about a rich narcissist are few and far between -- a side effect of our legal system not having "loser pays". Easier to look up his court cases if you have access to so-called "public" records, that nowadays require payment or a subscription. Occasionally someone drops one of those somewhere online... but I don't really have any beef enough with the guy to care -- his reputation precedes him, though... if you dig a bit. (Keywords like "controversy" and "lawsuit" and such attached to ANY online persona, are often QUITE interesting searches to do, when deciding on content to support... (Shrug...)

    Kinda scary nowadays how's literally impossible to escape from your past, no matter how serious it is. Not saying this wasn't any serious, it's just scary that people can just call out on other people's past on the Internet, for little as it may be, not allowing anyone to live with regret, but haunted instead.

      The era of the smartphone is a scary thing for the younger crowd. I did tons of stupid shit in my 20s.
      However, In Dave's case he infected millions of people with his malware and him having the influence he has garnered online, I think having the context of his past scams will help incase he decides to run future scams.
      He has never admitted to this software being malware and even defended the software saying it helped people, which is NOT the truth.

    Honestly people are acting like there's a lot more there with the Dave thing than it really was. him just being an employee of some company, even a higher paid employee like a CTO, still just a job. Guy landed a high paying job, if you've ever worked for any similarly user-hostile company like HP/Google/Adobe etc then you're exactly as "dirty" as he is in this thing. That type of "marketing" is exactly what every other popular software back in the day did, everything out there was all bundled-toolbars and popups galore. Lots even still do today, like those driver updater apps and CCleaner clones that all act like your computer is going to explode if you don't buy their premium subscription. The whole thing is giant nothingburger, and the dude who made the original video as if he "uncovered" something should be embarrassed.

    • @TitusTechTalk
      @TitusTechTalk  Месяц назад +1

      He was named in the lawsuit and directly profited from it. He wasn't just a CTO of a big company. He was the backer for the company and helped engineer the adware from the 2000s BIG difference in what you are saying. He owned all the domains and it was NOT a large company.

    this is really disappointing. going JUST from what you said he committed a crime 20 years ago, got caught, prosecuted, paid the price society demanded. we are a culture obsessed with drama and ostracizing people ... i don't know what you should have done here, man, but this feels a little gross. People have a right to know about someone's past, I guess...and you should be allowed to talk about it. I don't pretend to know all the details, and there's a chance you have some knowledge that you are keeping close that would change my view, but when it comes to stories like this -stories about a transgression in someone's past where it seems they paid their debt to society -that we let it be. Or at least be super careful about how we discuss it.

    I never liked how Dave opens his videos. "Hi I'm Dave Plumber, retired Microsoft Software Engineer who has Autism." I just got a weird feeling that he was sympathy mining while simultaneously appearing excessively trustworthy to his viewership. (It totally worked on me, but also not really since I trust basically no one.) It always just feels strange to watch his video openings, and if people are subscribed to his channel, they likely already know those facts about him, so it just becomes annoying after awhile. Maybe I am insensitive? Maybe I have Autism, so now anybody that says anything bad about this comment should also feel bad!

    One thing that has always rubbed me wrong about Dave is that anytime someone brings up a concern about privacy on Windows, Dave immediately assumes they are paranoid and insists that the NSA Key is not spyware, even though the NSA Key is not what the person is even talking about. The NSA Key has become a strawman Dave uses to dismiss legitimate privacy concerns in Windows such as Telemetry.
    Also, Dave seems to have a chip on his shoulder about GNU/Linux.

      Exactly - Just because he previously operated a fraudulent business doesn't mean his current content lacks value. Moreover, this information is publicly accessible, and I believe he even discusses it in his book, suggesting that he's not attempting to conceal his past. I'm not defending him (because what he did is inexcusable) , but revisiting past issues seems unnecessary. It often feels like it's merely a way for others to generate easy content from someone else's mistakes, simply because he is now a popular figure online.

      @@unstablenl I like his current content, but people should know he scammed a bunch of people in the 2000s. We are talking millions of users he ripped off as his old software was malware. In his book he makes it seem like it had value, but he was a blight on the software industry with those adware infestations he made.
      Check out the endermanch video where he installs his old software, albeit a bit gimped with all the adware servers being offline, it was crap. I made a lot of money removing his junk off peoples systems in the 2000s.

    • @unstablenl
      @unstablenl Месяц назад +3

      @@TitusTechTalk Like I said, I'm not defending him. Maybe I was too broad when I mentioned "others generating easy content" - I certainly wasn't referring to you. What I am trying to say is that some people are just making content to create drama and cancel him, aiming to increase their own viewer and subscriber count. I think that's wrong because he has already gone through the legal process, and all the details are publicly available for everyone to read. It's important to consider how we approach these discussions to ensure they are informed and fair. For example, Enderman's original upload wasn't an objective look at the topic (which he seemed to have acknowledged: "I took down original video because it was poorly researched and contained some misinformation about Dave") - This is dangerous malpractice btw. You know how people on the internet can be. It included many misinformed statements and inaccuracies, and seemed more like an attack on Dave. This is my concern. It’s fine for people to cover these topics, but the approach should be educational, not just more hate speech, cancel culture, or attempts at online vigilantism. It seems like everyone wants to be a top OSINT expert these days, rehashing already public information instead of discovering new insights. Enderman could have created a video about Dave and his malpractices, creating a more educational piece on how these issues have continued into the recent past (consider Avast, for example) and persist today. This would inform viewers about what to watch out for, while still holding Dave accountable. That's just my opinion though.

BTW, a lot of elite people in the industry come on his show, if he was a bad dude, they would know it before we do, and would not come on and talk with him. This all seems really sketch! I could be wrong, but shouldn't we have all the facts first as to his involvement. Although the software is bad, really bad, we don't really know his involvement?
