- The Strathearn Half Marathon 2024 started near Crieff at the Glenturret Distillery in Perthshire, Scotland. The race was a fantastic experience & running the Half Marathon in January hopefully sets up a great year of running. Take in the stunning Scottish scenery as we run through hills, trails & trees.
With a challenging but scenic course, this race is perfect for both seasoned runners and beginners looking for a unique adventure. It did feel like a Scottish adventure in every step!
Kelly joins me on the run & tests out the Altra Lone Peak 8's before their release in a few weeks' time!

Beautiful scenery through Scotland and a lovely pre race run.
I also love smaller local events like this, so friendly and inclusive. An amazing location and new things to discover along the way... its all a wonderful mini adventure 🙂
Thanks Adele, it was nice doing a small event, definitely had a nice friendly atmosphere & I always love running on a trail I've not been on before 😀 Hope your running is going well 🏃♀️

Thanks for watching & taking the time to comment, it was a lovely area to run & explore some new trails 👍
Looks like a great event.
Cheers Jim, it was good fun 😀
I enjoyed watching and listening to your commentary. Knowing all the struggles you have been through, it's awesome to see you here and doing this! 2024 is your year Martin, let's get it!
Thanks Sage, it's been a long time getting to where I am now, feels good to be able to think about longer events again, step by step... Let's do it!
Great job on completing the half marathon, despite the icy conditions, Martin! Your determination and the scenic route make it a memorable adventure. 🏃♂💪
Thanks Mihai, it was really nice to do an event early in the year, I do feel like it's set me up for a positive year of running 😀
Looked like a fun run with great views. The tall greenery was pretty awesome also.
Thanks Don, it was an altogether top day out 😀
Great running Martin and Kelly! 👏🏅 Looked like a superb local race. They are always the best events. Keep the great videos coming Martin! 😎🤘
Thanks Ben, it was nice doing a small event for a change, fingers crossed I get a few more done this year 😀
Absolutely gorgeous landscape and trails, what a lovely but tough half-marathon. I thought you would break out in song "welcome to the jungle" running through the brush. Great job, Martin!
Thanks Reto, I definitely mentioned Welcome to the Jungle at the time, top song with great memories! The run was great, it's always nice exploring new areas, especially with stunning views 😀
-10°C is super freezing for me, I would not move a finger... Respect Martin! As always nice editing and places! Pretty clear bike trail signal... 😅 Very nice race experience despite the ice. Congrats!
Thanks Stelvio, it's been pretty cold here for a while, and I'm looking forward to it warming up a bit! Good to get my 1st event for the year done in January 😀
Great looking trails and surrounding scenery especially with the frost and pleasing lighting during your training runs--good thing the stile wasn't slippy! Once on the half marathon course, it's either pay attention to the route instructions or take your chances as in fun fast and follow and not stop at the distillery until the end. A good day for a shoe with a few studs (like La Sportiva Blizzard). A lovely local event.
Thanks Brian, the route was great, pleased with taking it easy on the run & enjoying it (along with finishing feeling good). I do have spiked shoes but didn't wear them on the day, the ice wasn't everywhere but there was enough to make you pay attention to it!
Holy moly the temperature. Good coverage, truly enjoyed watching the pre race run upto race day itself. Landscape was superb. Nice to see how you do races there.
Thanks Simon, have to agree about the landscape, it's epic around here 😀
Y'all are running in a rough terrain. Love how it changed throughout the entire run. Look like a nice little challenge. Good scenic view when you got to the top.
Thanks Kev, it was a cracking wee run with some stunning views along the way 😀
Nice video Martin. I haven't had much chance to catch up on your videos lately. It is so good to see you out running well again. Take care.
Thanks Peter, it's nice to be improving on the running front, last year was a constant progression & this year will be nice to enter a few events & hopefully get back to it 😀
I like the half a bike on top of a wooden arch to mark the cycle path!
That second lap must have been nice, once you knew your way around the course. Well done old chap 💪🏃♂️
2nd lap was good for that reason, knowing where to walk & were not to slip over 😁
Very beautiful course. It look like you needed a machete for clearing a path in a few places. The bike on top of the pole was interesting. It was slippery and cold. Your training in the cold got you ready for the race.
Thanks Richard, a machete would have been useful 🤣 I enjoy sections like that, they make the occasion more memorable & fun! Cold training runs certainly helped, though I'm ready for a warm run now 😉
That’s like my kind of “race”, lovely scenery, not in any rush to finish and just enjoying the day out 👍🏻 so good to see you’re well on your way to being back to full fitness mate after the past few years 🙏🏻
Cheers Soupy, it was nice to experience a race from a different perspective by not racing! Weird but wonderful at the same time! It's such a good feeling, to think about planning events again. It would be good to enter something in the future & meet up with folk like yourself, how's your running at the moment?
@@TheDeterminedRunner that would be awesome mate, count me in 👍🏻 things are looking up again, I hurt my knee back in November but been seeing a physio recently and she’s getting me back running again, got my turbo trainer setup again too so the non impact cross training will help too 👍🏻
@@soupyruns9709 Physio will help hugely, I see someone once a month, definitely helps 🏃♂️
@@TheDeterminedRunner I need to start going strength training again, I know it’s super important but it’s difficult to find the time and the motivation for the boring stuff 😂😂😂 I know once I start doing I’ll love it and keep at it but it’s just getting the will to start that first session 🙈 I need to make a conscious decision to just start back to it, but I’ll get back to it this week 👍🏻
I know what you mean about sticking with the strength stuff, I've struggled over the years, but I've been consistent for a while now, even if you only do it twice a week, that's double of what you normally do 💪 Bit of strength = less injuries 👍@@soupyruns9709
Congrats on finishing the half, Martin! Looks like a nice event to kick off 2024. You're so lucky to live in a location with access to such glorious trails! Even the drive to the race was incredibly scenic! The finish at the distillery is brilliant. Was it open?
Thanks Thomas, it does feel like a positive start to the year by getting the 1/2 done already. One of the reasons I settled here was the amazing location & scenery, it's perfect if you like the outdoors 😀, To be honest, we didn't check if the distillery was open, we just wanted to head into town & grab some food before the drive back 🍝 Distilleries are pretty common in this area 🥃
Well done on the half marathon.
I have my first winter trail marathon,a week on Sunday.Would have been better doing half marathon,I think I will suffer, the weather may kill me.
Thanks Alan, good luck with your marathon a week on Sunday, which one is it? I enjoyed this race and looking forward to a marathon in Spring, it should have warmed up a bit by then!
@@TheDeterminedRunner wait for it....the marathon is called,The Feckin Frickley tart and terrier trot.
@@alanrobinson2229 😂that’s worth doing just for the name 😂
