@@jstitus916 Same here. Since all the other mythology info in the game implied that Loki, just like the other Gods is already an established character, why would I think that the little boy, who's the son of a GREEK God turns out to be Loki, or his reincarnation or whatever. Also its not like God of War has ever kept faithful to mythology so why would I draw the parallel to Loki for killing Baldur. That's like saying "oh since Kratos killed him, that means Kratos must be Loki". Had they revealed early on that his mother's name was Laufey, that'd be a different story.
Not only did the giants refer to Atreus as Loki on the wall, they also called Kratos "Fárbauti". You can literally translate the runes on the wall and that's what they mean. It's crazy because in the norse myth, Fárbauti is Loki's father and his name literally means "fierce striker" which fits Kratos so fucking well...

He says he has dreams of being eaten when he was younger. Being part giant, he must have partial gift of prophecy and foresaw them having to enter Jormungandrs stomach
Yes being part giant (jotunn) loki had the gift to predict the future and foretold a prophecy that even the gods itself can't avoid the example of this is groa, a giant that predict the end times for all of gods (Ragnarok)
That reveal is big. This sets Boy up as a possible playable character in the next game. Ragnarok is the end of the gods in myth and Loki was at its center. I would love a more magic themed character to compliment Kratos's brute force.
@zeroshooter1 or maybe not. It's obvious how hard has affected on this game Cory Barlog's experience as a father. Maybe thats what this is all about, about legacy, about passing the torch. Its a dangerous choice to do in a saga as famous as GOW, specially now that Kratos is more likeable than ever. But who knows what Barlog has on its mind for the future of the saga.
For fellow mythology buffs like myself, we achieved 100+ IQ points when we connected all signs of his identity earlier in the game. Good thing he didn't mention anything about a horse.
Arteus: They called me Loki Me: Lol, Kratos' gonna be a grandpop to a six-legged horse, a world serpent, a female jötunn, a god and a wolf! Boy's gonna have some explaining to do!
Considering how many women Kratos had in Greece, If he hadn't wiped out the pantheon and turned the whole country into a chaotic wasteland he'd probably have a 100 bastard children. Though Aphrodite survived so if she got pregnant that child could come back in the future game.
Marvel Loki is certainly different from Norse Loki, but the biggest similarity that people who only know Marvel should pick up on is the fact that Loki is a Giant.
@@iownstaticz8687 actually, on the same wall that says Loki, they have Kratos written down as Fárbauti because they didn’t know his true name from their prophecy but it translates to “anger striker,” so they fit the story so Kratos actually fits into the original Norse mythology

@@toxicimplosion4731 The story could go different ways, all ending in the death of all Norse Gods. What I think will happen from what I've seen in the paintings is Loki getting abducted by Modi or Thor, gets taken to Asgard and Kratos will have to fight his way there.
I actually made a semi joke about boy being Loki when he first got the ability to summon wolves and that his mother was fey , and I just laughed so hard when they end up actually doing that
Its So dissapointing to see the reaction of the people who have NO idea how important this reveal was. Also its hilarious how some people think the MCU thor and loki is the actual lore
Loki is basically the reason Ragnarok happens. It's Old Norse for the "twilight of the gods". Because of the original mythology, it's reasonable to assume that this will be Atreus'/Loki's role in God of War sequels. Loki's influence will bring the Norse pantheon to oblivion.
Loki is the Son of 2 Giants, 1 is his mother in the game the other is replaced by kratos. Loki causes Ragnarok in mythology. The giant Snake and the wolves that chase the Sun and Moon are sons of Loki.

If you don't know norse Mythology, you don't know what this reveal means. Regardless of how many Marvel Movies you watched. It all makes sense. Loki, in norse Mythology, is a trickster and good in talking and manipulating others. While Atreus doesn't do that (yet), Atreus still is, like Loki in Mythology, half Giant and half-God. He likes wolfes and summones the world serpent. The wolf (Fenris to be exact) is one of Lokis 3 children, the other one is the world serpent and Hel (not Helheim but I think Hel will show up at some point in the later games). Now, the developers didn't stick exact correctly to the norse Mythology as you have sure noticed (How can the serpent be Atreus Child if he's only 10, right?!). But the developer sure knew what the norse mythology was all about, shown in the dialogs of Mimir on the boat. And if you know what Loki does in norse Mythology, you know what might come in the next games. GoW 4 already dresses up that topic. It's called: Ragnarok!
Viperwarfare yeah, as the guy above me said, the fight between Thor and the world serpent caused a blow that sent the world serpent in the past even before he was born
i love the mcu, but the way they changed t triggered me: especially sifs BLACK hair in the movies and comics smh. plus i love the irony. atreus is destined to 'destroy' the norse gods just as kratos did the greek.
I like how they obscured the twist just enough by referring to the mother as "Fey," while a Greek nerd could still make the connection, would have been instantly evident if they called her Laufey. Also perfect how Kratos' nature lines up perfectly for him to be Farbauti. Masterful decision.
@@carloz1536 Baldur was looking for the last Giant in Midgard.. he did not know it was Faye that he seeked.. just found Kratos in the process. Him being grandchild of a titan doesn't come into picture here.. at least to Baldur.
@@purswanitarun The again Giants can shapeshift but even if they do they are taller when compared to Mortals. So having Titan and Greek God genetics did make Kratos look like a giant. Hes like 7 to 8 foot tall and is taller than Modi, Magni and Baldur and Freya
For the last time, LOKI IS NOT THORS BROTHER, no matter what the comics say, in the original myths, Loki was Odins blood-brother. They weren’t related but they made a blood oath to each other....
It kind of makes sense that Atreus is Loki because in the Norse Mythology Loki is the God of Mischief and Chaos, Loki is a God and a Jotnar, which makes him a Giant. This makes sense to everyone who knows the mythology, I think
also, in mythology his father is Fárbauti, and if I remember correctly Faye refears to Kratos as Fárbauti which means something along "cruel", and it was said that Jörmungandr, Lokis child, was actually sent back in time and so it remembers him
I really love how subtitles say "Loki" only once Atreus does so that no one reads it before the reveal. A little nice touch, but so satisfying

Can you imagine if Atreus chased a horse to the woods and f**ked her up and months later he returns with his 8 leg horse-son Sleipnir and gift it to Odin? XD
Edit: get f**ked by that horse in the wood, since i remember Loki disguise himself as a female horse and gave birth to Sleipnir
Vasily Arkhipov Its the other way around. Loki was disguised as a *Female horse* lmao

Viperwarfare well the snake is here cause its fight with thor sent him back in time
Viperwarfare yeah, as the guy above me said, the fight between Thor and the world serpent caused a blow that sent the world serpent in the past even before he was born
You forgot sleipnir one of loki's other children. The 8 legged horse who he's actually both dad AND mom to due to how they were conceived.

Boi: the giants called me...Loki?
Bigbrick: *intense stare*
When I got to this scene I immediately thought "Thats why he can communicate with the World Serpent" and when he killed Baldur with the arrow
I like how they obscured the twist just enough by referring to the mother as "Fey," while a Greek nerd could still make the connection, would have been instantly evident if they called her Laufey.
Also perfect how Kratos' nature lines up perfectly for him to be Farbauti. Masterful decision.
Kratos being the grandson of a titan also helps since baldur still mistook him for a giant despite being smaller than expected
@@carloz1536 now that I think of it. The real mythology of zeus and Cronos is similar to Odin and Ymir.
@@carloz1536 Baldur was looking for the last Giant in Midgard.. he did not know it was Faye that he seeked.. just found Kratos in the process. Him being grandchild of a titan doesn't come into picture here.. at least to Baldur.
