I've used canned black beans and red beans in hamburger helper in place of ground beef because I'm cutting down on meat. It tastes great. Be sure to chose no salt beans because the box mix is already salty enough.

I have a small house so I had to get creative with storage. Those hanging shoe organizers are great for light packages, boxes and spices. Under bed rolling storage containers are great as well as the inexpensive foot stools that have storage in them. If you have a corner in a room to stack pretty hat boxes or vintage suitcases you can store food inside, then place a plant, books or other decorative items on top. If you have bookshelves filled with books, you can store items behind the books like sardines and other small cans on their side and box mixes.

I keep dented cans on a separate shelf and eat first. And check every can every 6 months for damage and leaks. Or after moving things around.

Great video! Prepping for hard times is like buying an insurance policy for a car wreck or a house fire. You hope it never happens but you don’t wanna end up empty handed. If you pay premiums for a car, surly food is even more important! Especially with all the tragedies we seem to consecutively be experiencing these days. The Bible teaches us to prepare for hard times and be a blessing to those around us. 🙏.

Totally agree and have been doing a version of this for years. It saves money if you don’t have to go out and buy the food at shelf price because you have some so you know you can wait until it is on sale. The more I stocked up, the more money in the budget I had to stock up because I was saving money every week only buying whatever was on sale. We aren’t big on canned meat either. I got a can of chicken for free and made a buffalo chicken dip with it which my husband loves but I wouldn’t normally buy it because we don’t use it. I am interested to find out about that canned beef though!

I use my hall coat closet. Put in a large shelf. Have totes in my garage as well. My scientist sister-in-law says you can used food looonggg past it’s use by date.

  • @marieparks5674
    @marieparks5674 3 года назад +3

I do the same thing, if I use something I replace it. I use expiration dates as a suggestion just to check it and then eat it if I think it’s good. Tomato products, I watch a little closer and if you have animals, stale products can be given to dogs, chickens, etc

    Hi all.
I shop out of my pantry as well. My rule for stocking up is if I take one out of the pantry I bring 2 new into it. I have about 8 months of stock now. But i still use my rule.

    Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
You are correct about storing, using and exploration dates.. I volunteer at my community food pantry and we are told that dry and can foods are good up to 6 months or a year past the best by date. Unless, seal is open, can is dented, damaged or rusted... they have a notice issued by the state for each category of items. I've seen the notice, but not memorized it...lol

I started my pantry with one small cabinet and a large box many years ago. And each week before I went grocery shopping. I would take anything I thought I could spare from my kitchen groceries and add it to my pantry box. Plus what I could catch on sale at the store. And we had 2 small children. It quickly added up. You just have to be determined to do this. Then built it up to 2 MO. Which saved us one time when my husband got hurt on a job. He was out of work injured for 2 months. Sure is a relief when you don't worry about how you will feed your family. And then that money can also be directed at paying bills. Also a stress relief in knowing a bill gets paid. You have to live it to know. And keeps down arguments between Mom and Dad. Helps the whole house.

The under bed tote is great for boxed or bag pasta as well as dry beans and rice.
( use separate tote for beans and rice from pasta, pasta will get crushed by heavy items)

I got a storage bin to store some of my dry goods in, I actually put things in freezer storage bags and used the vacuum to suck air out of bags better than I could press out, so I figured it would help them keep better In the tote especially if I have to store under my bed. I did pick up several Knorr pkts of ones we like and several pkg mashed potatoes etc etc etc.
Thank you for sharing your ideas :)
I make my own taco seasoning and store, I have stocked up on seasonings and freeze dried seasoning, buttermilk powder, I stock up on the better than bullion since I cannot have stuff with MSG in them. I've also been stocking up on propel pkts and tea green tea kombucha tea pomegranate cranberry tea etc,

Thank you so much for this video girl, I’ve been trying to get a new system going. Now that it’s just me and the kids during the week, and with them at school and me at work, we are barely going through anything. I’ve been able to cut my grocery bill basically in half, but I need some kind of system to get through what we have before I buy more. So I loved this video. 😊

storage space, Think outside the box. if you own your home and have an inside wall Take the drywall off the wall and frame in a box shelf unit and put shelves between the studs. if you have a door entry or hallway then you can use the space overhead along the ceiling by putting a strip of wood on each wall screwed to the studs and put a shelf across. put your lightweight items like paper towels. TP bread etc. raise your bed and put tubs underneath that you can pull out for your heavier items. put a raised box under your front load dryer. its easier on your back and you get a lot of storage.. raise your couch 5in and slide canned food under neath. stand strong and keep looking up. Jesus is Lord and do not forget to prep for your elderly neighbors even if its rice and beans. by spices.

Great new video detailing your stock up. I'm with you on the canned chicken. Not my thing at all.
Wanted to ask if you also do a stock up on dog food? Our dog is an 8 pound Chihuahua, so he doesn't need much. Max would need a decent sized bag plus some bottled water.
    Have a fantastic weekend!!

Dog food isn’t something I’ve thought about 😬 🤦🏻‍♀️ bad dog mom! We always buy the big bags, so we always have a big tub of it. We can just grad it and take it with us. And if need be he can eat canned vegetables or canned meats as back up!

Taco shells have a short shelf life. The oil turns them rancid. The last box of Ortega taco shells were two months shy of the exp date and when I opened them they smelled terrible. I only buy one at a time now. Oddly enough chalupa shells seem to last longer for me.
