I have been playing guitar for 8 years and decided to start violin purely for carnatic music. I have been looking for a resource like this and your website. Your uploads will be very useful to me, thank you very much for posting these lessons.
Wow. The slow paced approach is helping us pay attention to every detail of the gamakam. Your glides are like smooth and so soothing to the ears. Playing slow increases the rasa in the tune indeed .. Pranams sir.
Thank you for uploading the video. As a beginner, the gamakkas can be followed so clearly. How to play various types of gamakkas will be extremely beneficial.
Thank you sir for your lessons....its been very helpful. ..Please add more videos of geethams and varnams. ...and also upper swara jathis. It would be very helpful....Thanks a lot once again....
Do you have any suggestions ro prevent the index finger from hitting the E-string peg. I wonder if I should switch to a machine peg to free up that space. I keep hitting the peg despite trying different angles. Thanks very much for posting your set of videos; it has been a great inspiration to learn.
+Violin Amateur Probably, your index finger gets stretched away from the palm while playing. When using a particular finger on a string, in some people, other fingers show a tendency to point away from the fingerboard. While it is desirable to keep the palm almost parallel to the neck, all fingers (except thumb) should also be pointing towards the fingerboard. One needs to practice to achieve this positioning which, in my opinion, is not at all difficult.
That's a tough question to answer! Honestly, I haven't done any research in comparing expensive violins to see how well they sound. They are simply beyond my reach.
