Hendrix’ recording of “Watchtower” still sounds ahead of its time today. Love all of Dave’s songs. Glad he was part of it.
Like and comment!! These broadcast are priceless.
Gotta love these Hendrix stories even after all these years
Love Watchtower! Thanks for the post, great interview.
Great interview John 👍thanks
Brian Jones plays the Vibraslap on All Along the Watchtower.
I love the part where he sings "among us"
On "Crosstown Traffic," Mason and Noel Redding sing the backing vocals. You hear a higher voice sing "crosstown" and then a lower one sing "traffic." As the higher voice resembles Redding's, I think it's he doing the "crosstown" part and Mason singing "traffic." If that's indeed the case I wonder whether it was a bit of an in-joke, as trffic was the name of the band Mason played in at the time.
Hard pressed to think of a greater tour de force than Hendrix's version of Watchtower.
Nobody plays the rhythm chords to this song like Dave Mason AND Bob Dylan - everyone else misses an off-cord that belongs in the song. I have pointed it out to countless people with guitar in hand and they all say, "It doesn't matter..." Go figure!
