  • As humans, we are all in uncharted waters with COVID-19.
As equestrians, we are personally devastated. Our shows have been cancelled and our goals have been replaced by uncertainty. But in this difficult time we are given the opportunity to remember who we were before success was measured with blue ribbons.
Do you remember when you started loving horses? How old were you? Where was your first ride? Do you remember why you connected with horses in the first place? What pulled you to them and implanted that passion in your soul?
Remember the smell of the barn. The feel of their soft, warm coat. Whiskers brushing your palm as they took a treat from your hand. The gentle curiosity in their eyes. The emotional connection you felt while cleaning their stall, deep in thought about your struggles, when a warm muzzle pushed gently against your shoulder.
Remember watching them in the pasture, truly watching, and being amazed by their power and grace. You were inspired by their wild nature. You understood that they had their own personality and desires. You respected them, and were in awe of your partnership.
You loved riding, but more importantly, you simply loved horses. You wanted to be around them all the time, to be in their presence and feel wild and free.
So when you are feeling lost, or your plans get derailed, remember that this time can be used to slow down, reconnect with your horse and yourself, and remember why it all began: For The Love of the Horse.
