    When I had my Business back in 1993, I had a friend / Employee who was born in 1912. He started welding in 1930. I always said he could weld Rubber Bands. Before my business and his retirement, we worked together in an Aviation / military prototype shop in Indianapolis. He was bored after retiring & I had ample work to keep him amused. I have seen him weld Aluminum Sheetmetal thinner than your skin... To say the least I miss him to this day. You reminded me of those days and what can be accomplished with the skill some have in the welding industry. Thank you and Excellent job!

    That's pretty awesome sheet-metal work. Good job! Keep these videos coming! It's not exactly the kind of airplane I want, but if it was, these videos would really push me into building one.

    80 AMP was a bit much even in AC, a copper heat sing is far superior at preventing blow true, not to mention the big GC 17 200AMP Torch ( using a sledgehammer for a finishing nail).
    still it was a nice save,good job but i agreed that the metal property at that edge aria is forever compromise,i would got a new sheet. 🖖 live long and prosper my men.

    One of these centuries I have got get TIG. Tried that with vintage fluxes & OFW a few times. It can be done, and was done on a mass-scale during WWII, but I couldn't get it to work.

    You’re adding stress risers with each weld. Just make a new skin.

    • @joshrichling464
      @joshrichling464 2 года назад +1

      Indeed. It’s not a critical part and here in Idaho we don’t have access to materials like this readily. It must be ordered so I went for it.

    Paper is .002-.003 and so it is around 7 to 10 times thicker since it is .020. Still a good job if you can do it.

    Does the electrode corrodes with airplane gas? Or the gas will not be in contact with the electrode?

    • @joshrichling464
      @joshrichling464 2 года назад

      If I understand your question, The gas (Argon) protects the electrode.

    I would've used filler. Lol

    • @joshrichling464
      @joshrichling464 2 года назад +1

      I did use filler occasionally. The problem is that the filler at 1/16” was much thicker than the base metal. When I lit an arc up there wasn’t enough heat to melt the filler as it was acting as a heat sink but it was too much for the base material and was blowing holes. It was a unique situation for sure. Thank you for the kind words.
