- 40 Mile | Gnoorea | Mooring Fishing | Caravan Hot Spot
In this episode, Eden, and I, venture down to one of our local natural boat ramps, nearby to Karratha, Western Australia, to spend our New Years Eve!
40-Mile Beach, or Gnoorea Point, is a destination popular with caravans and campers throughout the cooler winter months in the Pilbara, but equally, it fishes well year 'round!
Launching the 420 Dory at the crack of dawn, we head out on an outgoing tide to try our luck on a mooring that we'd crossed paths with a week prior, but we did not having any fishing rods on board at that time to really see what it was about.
Since beginning my spearfishing journey at the start of 2022, this was only my second time in the year with a fishing rod in my hand, and aiming to NOT jump into the water.
I'd been promising Eden that we'd have a dedicated fishing day since the day we met, so this day was to be just that. Much to her credit, she is a better fisherman than I!
We find many great fish throughout the morning, targeting mostly pelagic fish such as Giant Trevally, Spanish Mackerel, and Cobia. Much to our delight, a few nice demersal species such as Rankin Cod, Red Emperor, and Black Spot Cod find their way onto the deck too!
The story tells itself throughout the course of the video, so we hope you enjoy, and I look forward to sharing more adventures throughout 2023.
Thanks for watching, and happy new year!

Rohan you won 2022. Your courage was rewarded with confidence and that is what has attracted Eden. Setting a good example 👏
Appreciate it mate!
Only ever stayed at 40 Mile for one season as we love Cleaverville and the reefs out behind Dixon. We caught way too many spinefoot off 40 Mile, don't like dealing with those things :) Those trevally are fun for a while but it's a lot of work for no reward. In all the years we fished up there we never caught a squid, we didn't target them but down here they often go fo a bait fish in a hook but didn't even see one up that way. Those skinny little rods always amaze me. Up there we use short thick solid fibre 'winches' to get the fish in before the taxman turns up LOL.
Both areas certainly have their perks, and surprisingly fish quite different which is nice to mix it up too. Fibreglass rods are tried and tested mate, no question about their durability 🐎 We like the lighter graphite rods these days mainly for their sensitivity and how well they jig. Cheers for the comment 🙂

I had to stop the episode to like it at 2.13. Eden smiling at her Coral Trout Catch.
She's beautiful isn't she! 🫠
Awesome 👌. Those trevs are so fun to catch hey. I definitely think that would be worth a dive. Happy new year mate
Cheers Webby, likewise! I'm definitely to get out with you sometime, maybe tee it up when I finally get my new boat 🍻
@@BurrupAndAway haha I didn't think it would be long before you upgraded. That sounds great mate.
Gr8 video Rohan and Eden. Just wondering if you have the GPS location of that mooring? I am actually camping in 40 Mile at the moment. Cheers
Thanks mate, unfortunately we don't have the mark for ya! This was filmed on our old boat, but shouldn't be too hard to find out there if ya search around 🙂 cheers.
Awesome you guys, just found your channel and now a fan. Rohan, what rods and reels do you guys use?
Thanks so much! Between the both of us, just the typical higher end of the Shimano and Daiwa range. Stella, Saltist, and Stradics for our spin gear in various sizes between 4k-8k. Eden also has a few nice overhead jigging combos that I wouldn't be able to name off of the top of my head, sorry! She's actually the better fisher of the two of us 😆
Keed to dive that 15 spot with ya😅
Oath we will! 😁
excellent! you guys are making sick videos ! well done !🌊🌅🐟🏞️📹🤙😎🛻
Cheers Brent, happy new year mate 🍻
